He passed. He was at home. He was in his bed. We were both there with our arms wrapped around him telling him we loved him. Good bye Winkus Huckleberry I love you

#we didn’t make it to the vet he wanted to leave on his own #the windows were open and the sun was out and he could hear the birds #and we cuddled till the end #Athena is still in the bath tub she’s anxious and grieving #but we brought her out to sniff him a few times so she new what was going on #winkie babie #animal death /#dog death /

We got the call this morning that Winkie’s situation was much, much worse than anticipated and had to make that most painful, impossible decision at 9am as soon as I woke up. We asked if we could spend one more day and night with him and they said yes so we picked him up, got him a pup cup, and have been giving him love and pets. Tonight he’ll sleep in our bed for the last time and tomorrow we’ll sit under a tree at his favorite park for a bit before we say goodbye. It’s so hard to believe this is happening and it’s even harder to believe we’ve only known him for 2 years, we’ve been so many places and done so many things that it feels like lifetimes. Athena has been so anxious and upset abt the last few days that she’s been staying hidden in the bathtub but they had a few chances to sniff each other and say their goodbyes. I love this dog so much it hurts that I didn’t have more time with him. He was my first Grown Up dog, my idaho dog, the first dog I ever took to the beach, the dog I came home to after work, the dog who went on 2am rite aid runs with us. The one who loved to see ducks but only on YouTube videos, the one who would howl when he heard sirens, the one who loved using pillows like a person, whos stupid little sideways ears would bounce every time he walked, who loved toys and playing more than any other dog I’ve met. Winkie I love you, I’m glad we met, I’m glad I could give you the love and care you needed. I’m going to miss you Winkus Huckleberry

Hey y’all I’m still around, just an update on things: Athena and Beebo are fine and healthy, Winkie is sadly going through the motions of his renal failure, last night we were at the emergency room all night, he’s currently hospitalized and getting his system flushed out which is won’t cure him but it’ll buy us some time for more cuddles and fetch and sniffing everything and anything before we have to say good bye. He’s still alert, he was so excited to see us when we said good night to him, so I have faith that he has a few months of good quality life in him still. Keep us in your thoughts, please use tick guard on your outside dogs, and give your pets some kisses for me
