Hey so yeah. This is why you shouldnāt vote third party in a competitive race. Oh, and Angela Green herself had actually dropped out of the race and endorsed Sinema, but people were so intent not to vote for one of the Evil Parties Who Are Exactly The Same that they voted for someone who wasnāt even running.
In case I forget about this post or canāt find it, Iām going to schedule it for November 1st, 2020, two days before the election. Maybe by then weāll all be dead from a nuclear war, I donāt know, but, in case weāre not, donāt forget this. Donāt vote third party.
[Image description: an infographic of the 2018 Arizona Senate election results. It shows the Republican candidate, Martha McSally, winning with 49.3% of votes, the Democratic candidate, Kyrsten Sinema, just barely losing with 48.4% of votes, and the Green Party candidate, Angela Green, with the 2.2% of votes that could have swung the election.]
Every Record I Own - Day 588: Indigo Girls s/t
Is Indigo GirlsāĀ āCloser to Fineā still a mandatory soundtrack to every college dorm room? Or did that phenomenon end with the turn of the century? All my friends from college had some profound connection to the song at the age where they were transitioning into adulthood. Itās like The Smiths or Bob Marley or (*gag*) Dave Matthews Band⦠once youāre out of your parentās house and entrenched in campus life, you have to have at least a passing familiarity with a portion of Indigo Girlsā catalog.Ā
I had aĀ āCloser to Fineā cassingle during my college years. No idea where it came from and no idea where it went. Maybe it came with my admission packet. Maybe itās some sort of talisman that faded into the ether when I left the campus perimeter. Either way, after graduation Indigo Girls were an act I only thought of when I was doing karaoke. But when I stumbled across this LP for $5 at Rough Trade NYC a few years back, I figured I could easily get five dollars-worth of memory-lane entertainment out of it.Ā
Considering the Indigo Girls are unknown to all the new college friends I haven't forced to listen to them yet, it is no longer a mandatory soundtrack in dorm rooms. I am working to change that though with my one friend who has good taste in music!
Letting someone hold your phone when itās unlocked is a whole different level of trust.
But consider. Trusting someone enough you key in their fingerprint so they don't even have to memorize your code.

The moon is an ominous prophecy
hayley williams got ripped to shreds over one misogynistic song to the point where sheās had to publicly personally apologize multiple times and has retired the song live and yet every male pop punk band is sitting on albums worth of songs that are misogynistic and violent towards women and theyāre all just chillinā¦ā¦.. curiousā¦ā¦ā¦. i wonder what the difference isā¦..
Okay, but like. Misery Buisness? Is a great song.
Like on the feminist level 90% of the song is no more aggressive than āSk8er boiā by Avril Lavigne.
The controversial lines āOnce a whore youāre nothing more, Iām sorry thatāll never changeā I actually fucking love as a feminist. It highlights this issue that society has that women are just painted as a whore for doing nothing wrong, and then they are stuck with that label. And the way the entire song is sung has always had an underside of fuck the world that every teen girl feels. And after being branded a whore by society (for example: just for dressing nice and wanting to look/feel good, or i dont know, wearing make up) yelling out the line āOnce a whore youāre nothing moreā in a āfuck the patriarchy yeah Iām a nasty womanā sort of way is really cathartic. And the rest of the verse fits with that message of āfuck this societal bullshitā
And going back to what OP says, lets look at some male pop punk bands.
Fall Out Boy: āThe bruises on your thighs like my fingerprintsā (Song:Centuries)
Panic! At the Disco: āThe poor grooms bride is a whoreā (Song: I write sins not tragedies); āLying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes offā (Song title)
Twenty One Pilots: āHe crept in her room and stayed there for the nightā (Song: A car, a torch, a death)
All Time Low: āThe girls a straight up hustlerā (Song title); āHolly, would you turn me onā (Song title); āGet down on your knees and tell me you love meā (Song title)
Blink-182: āVoyeurā (Song title); āDick Lipsā (Song title); āFuck a dogā (This entire song is problematic)
I could continue but Iām tired at theres about 500 pop punk bands. Only one I couldnāt find any issues with is MCR, and I didnt look too hard.
Tldr: The song Misery Buisness by Paramore is a bop that doesnt deserve to be held to a higher scrutiny than its peers because the singer is a female
??? The Fall Out Boy lyrics are wrong. I donāt know about any of the others, but that one is, at the very least, incorrect. The actual lyric is, ā Iām cruising on your thighs, leave my fingerprints.ā This line is proceeded by the narrator telling his mother thereās nothing wrong with them, and followed by a line of telling the subject that they thought this was just for tonight and they never meant to make the subject change/fix themselves.
I believe one of the songwriters has gone on record about how this song is about trans legend Marsha P. Johnson.
In that context, the lyric is NOT about bruising someoneās thighs with fingerprints. The entire section is commentary on gender, how itās not a teenage phase, about the stigma of being intimate with someone who is trans (thinking it leaves a mark), and how trans people donāt have to āfixā themselves.
There are plenty of Fall Out Boys songs, especially older songs, with problematic lyrics, so thereās no need to misrepresent an LGBT+ anthem to show the presence of misogyny in the music industry.
no one on this website has ever had sex and it shows
like really, yall know its ok to like something imperfect right? you donāt gotta write a thesis to justify everything you enjoy. hayley williams calling another girl a whore will never be feminist but the song slaps and she wrote it at 15 so fuck it? please go outside.
If I enjoy writing about why I feel a certain way about something why shouldn't I do that? I like getting passionate over things I enjoy and I'm wordy so writing a paragraph or 3 or 5 is fun for me, debating is fun, learning is fun. Why you gotta judge my writing for existing? I enjoy researching, backing up my points, not every rant or thesis based argument has to be a 5 paragraph 3 page essay in MLA format for a class.

Hey I actually didnāt remember writing this until I got a notification about another reboot for it ššš I also donāt use Tumblr much so idk when you responded but I did want to respond to you.
I actually havenāt been active in the FOB fandom for about a year, but I full on panicked at your message because if that was the case I was going to edit my post and republish with an apology.
The lyrics are actually ābruises on your thighs like my fingerprintsā, at least according to Genius.com where the song has been verified by Pete Wentz with commentary.
I will definitely agree that Centuries is an anthem, but unfortunately I canāt say that it is only a LGBTQAAI+ Anthem.
According to the annotations by Pete Wentz, the song is about the band striving to make an impression on the world, hence the title lyric, āyou will remember me for centuriesā. I think itās actually been used a ton to promote sports games as well.
Personally, if you are looking for some LGBTQAAI+ anthems, I reccomend looking at Lily Allens- the song Iām thinking of is āFuck Youā which was in response to an attempted ban on gay marriage and I believe Lily Allens has been on record having affairs with women before. Another LGBTQAAI+ artist duo that I personally love is the Indigo Girls- Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. My favorite LGBT song from them is honestly probably Tangled Up In Blue, but they are more of a folk rock band than a pop punk band. They helped me come to terms with my own identity though and are great for road trips so I definitely reccomend checking them out!
The writer of the song, Justin Tranter, confirmed that it is inspired by Marsha P. Johnson. I am not talking about speculation or how the song has been used.

The lyrics I looked up at the time said cruisinā, but I canāt find those now. Regardless, given the actual reported meaning of the song by the songwriter, I believe that the meaning still isnāt about glorifying abuse - much less misogyny. Itās still the story of an LGBT+ activist that people are taking out of context.
I followed the article you linked, and it does look like one of the authors of the song said that. Here's my issue with that: there were 7(+?) other authors of the song who have said nothing about that, and one of whom (who sings in the song) has even contradicted it. Calling Centuries a LGBTQAAI+ anthem makes it kind of a disappointing one considering one writer called it that, once, another author has contradicted it, and it makes no clear reference to the actual movement. There are better FOB songs to be considered as LGBTQAAI+ anthems, but the one time it was referenced as such and the lack of clarity in the lyrics makes calling Centuries a LGBTQAAI+ anthem feel almost as pandering-y as the June a couple of years ago where every company and their mother went rainbow for their advertising. Additionally, when searching specifically "centuries fall out boy trans" (to get as many relevant results as possible) it seems like the concert where the one writer said that was discussed and published without evidence by one article in 2017 by one site, and picked up by a few others that were less reputable in May of 2018. I'm not saying he didn't say that, I'm just saying that it's not backed up anywhere else that I could find.
I never said that centuries is about glorifying abuse, some people like marking during s*x, I don't kinkshame here.
My point with that song in my original reblog- and all the lyrics I mentioned, was exactly what I said in my tldr, Misery Buisness doesn't deserve to be held to a higher standard than male artists just because Haley Williams is a women.
My point with this reblog is that there are much better LGBTQAAI+ anthems for us to highlight sung by members of the community, instead of a song that if it is about a trans activist it is only so under several different layers of context and interpretation. While the one writer, Justin Tranter, is a member of the community himself and an amazing activist, he has also worked with artists that are more diverse than Fall Out Boy and could be highlighted more.

Donating sperm is the opposite of adopting a child
Inappropriate, but wouldn't unprotected anal sex resulting in sperm left in said anus be the exact opposite of adopting a child.
Point 1. Purpose of sperm. In adoption, sperm still had to connect with an egg at some point. In sperm donation, sperm still connects with egg. In anus, sperm does not connect with egg.
Point 2. Eventual location of sperm. In adoption, sperm was at one point in uterus Sperm donation, egg-sperm combo was implanted in uterus. Anal sex, Sperm never reached uterus or even just vagina.
Point 3. Presence of baby. Adoption has baby. Donating sperm has potential baby. Anal sex has no baby.
Tldr, in anal sex, sperm goes into uncharted territories and no baby is made.
The only criticism I will accept is that the penis in this situation still had to enter a body like in adoption, but I didn't really want to write on masterbation or people ejected sperm onto another person body. These are also valid opposites of adoption though.
I- I found out bad information about David eddings. And Leigh. Idk how to react. Wanna know?
uh oh. yeah, tell me; lmao iām pretty used to liking things by problematic creators, so i think i can handle it whatever it is
They abused their adoptive children. Specifically their 4 year old adoptive son. So bad they had custody taken away after a year
YIKES
that is... particularly disturbing. that will certainly factor into my interpretation of depictions of parenting in the books on my next readthrough...
iām really sorry that that is the case; obviously for the real harm that child had to go through, that is unforgivable ā but also iām sorry to you for however that knowledge affects your feelings about a series you care about. iām used to having to separate my feelings about a work from my feelings about its creator(s), but thatās definitely still a horrible feeling, and i know others sometimes have a harder time with it than i do
Same, definitely will be evaluating the parenting a bit closer.
And thanks to JK Rowling I'm also used to seperating authors from what they write. It was just. Startling. and you're the only belgariad fan outside of my dad that I interact with so wanted to share š

Can your period be late because of stress? I'm 5 or 6 days late and it never happened before. I don't think the condom boke because we would've noticed. A friend said that she's always late when she is under a lot of stress and after it passes and she calms down it comes. I hope this is the reason because i'm getting really scared. I had a lot of online exams and i was indeed stressed so maybe that's why.... Did this ever happen to you or your followers?
Your period can be late for a multitude of reasons. If youāre that concerned, you can get a test or see a doctor. Usually, sodās law means as soon as you do a test, your period will turn up (or thatās how Iāve experienced it!). Uteri are fickle and evil organs.Ā
You can also just get a cheap dollar tree test! Nearly as accurate, but not as fancy as one from Walmart that costs 20 bucks. There's hundreds of different reasons your period could be late, and even if it is the scary one, you still have options. It is probably the stress, it could even just be a new friend you made whose cycle you are syncing up to (virtual friends don't count for that tho), or if it was your first time just the act of sex the first time itself can affect the body and delay your period.
Don't stress, you'll get through whatever happens.
Personally when I'm sexually active I always have like 5 cheap tests at home because your brain will always try and convince you it's a baby. š
as sad as i am about jenna leaving youtube, some of yāalls reactions are deeply suspect. like to me her response was the perfect ally response to being called out: āhey you guys asked me to address these things i did, here they are w video evidence, they are bad/wrong/racist and i did them, i feel like iāve grown since then but that doesnāt change that i did it and it was harmful, iām taking the content down so it doesnāt hurt more people, hereās some more stuff no one called me out on that i did that iām calling myself out on, it was bad/wrong/racist and doesnāt reflect the energy i want my content to reflect so iām taking some time off while i figure out if i can reconcile that.ā no excuses made, even though all/most of the content was about ten years old. but STILL yāall are on here talking about how she was ādriven off youtubeā and how she was ācancelledā?? making her into the victim? thatās almost the exact opposite energy as to what jenna herself had in the video, and crying that āpeople cancelled herā for asking her to own up to her mistakes has strong āsensitive snowflakes canāt take a joke these daysā energy.
also i want you to think about how harmful it is to victimize a white woman for being called out on racism i really want you to think about it
It's not the reaction that you paraphrased that has me raising my eyebrows in suspicion of the people who called her out. The actions mentioned in your post from 'hey you guys' to 'reconcile that' was an appropriate reaction. The bit /after/ that where she says she might never come back to her channel is what has me questioning what people said to her.
Jenna Marbles has always handled criticism well and changed her actions, she even called herself out on something that hadn't been brought up in the past- as clearly evidenced by her 45 minute apology and growth video after what happened to her fish.
Her apology was genuine and real and what a real ally would say. However if she is seriously considering quitting her career over things from 10 years ago, that tells me that she was also probably getting some serious hate over her actions. Based off of her past behavior, if it was truly just someone calling for her to address her old actions, she would have addressed them like in most of the video. But in the last couple minutes of her video her behavior deviates from the past in so far as she is considering quitting YouTube.
Imo, what I think happened is a few people got a bit attack dog with her on social media somewhere and took it too far. Yes call out public figures, but if they went so far as to make her want to quit her channel they probably went too far.
I want you to think about how harmful people on the internet can be and question if Jenna Marbles current behavior matches her past behavior and actions when she's been called out on different issues; and then question if maybe it wasn't the fact that her past actions were called out that has people upset, but the possibility that people got too aggressive as shown in past 'cancel' attempts for other people (such as in the James Charles vs Tati feud).
Nobody I've seen is questioning why she was called out, she definitely had some things to respond too, but if she's seriously considering quitting YouTube that tells me and others that people probably got aggressive and toxic with her as is the general case with cancel culture.
