HORNBEAM CORE - My own wand is made of hornbeam, and so it is with all due modesty that I state that hornbeam selects for its life mate the talented witch or wizard with a single, pure passion, which some might call obsession (though I prefer the term ‘vision’), which will almost always be realised. Hornbeam wands adapt more quickly than almost any other to their owner’s style of magic, and will become so personalised, so quickly, that other people will find them extremely difficult to use even for the most simple of spells. Hornbeam wands likewise absorb their owner’s code of honour, whatever that might be, and will refuse to perform acts - whether for good or ill - that do not tally with their master’s principles. A particularly fine-tuned and sentient wand.

SURPRISINGLY SWISHY - A wand with this flexibility will either surprise its owner by being surprisingly loyal or surprisingly unloyal and is most often known for doing the unexpected. It is usually great for charm work. Owners that are matched with wands of this flexibility are usually the type of people who have a hard time coming out of their shell or opening up, but once they do, others will find themselves drawn to their charming, fun-loving personalities. The owner usually adapts well to unexpected changes but may find it difficult to make hard decisions.

KNEAZLE WHISKER - This is a rarely used wand core and is not a very powerful core type. Kneazle wands are not especially prestigious, and are reputed to be flighty and disloyal. Not much is known about them, because not many wizards have been paired with this wand core. But when it is matched with the perfect wizard, it works wonders.

“but who could resist me pouting until they give in?” she demonstrated for him, before dropping the look and laughing. she’s only kidding. sort of. “it’s only magical theory. and a bit of transfiguration and charms. and --- oh, it doesn’t really matter. if it’s enough to pass for next year, it’s good enough for me ! “

“Peachy. Peach-y. Me, you, a whole year of fucking around and you being the only person I like. You know I told-” He moved his face away as she poked at it, “Again with the touching, Athena.”

“What? No. ‘Course not. What would I do in any competition? Bloody useless is what I’d be.” Unless the challenge was to translate a passage from Greek or spout off the latest conspiracy theory. “Are you?”

“Alright, alright, that’s all you’re getting from me today. Better stop now before we get to the juicy stuff. Besides ice cream. Let’s go get ice cream.”

“Still haven’t made any real friends yet?” She tutted loudly, teasingly. “Keep it up and I’ll start to think that you’re doing it to let me keep my status as your only friend. You have to talk to people, Fletch, maybe be nice. Tall order, I know, but try. --- Sorry, sorry, I always forget!” Her hands raised in mock surrender; she’s always ready mentally reminding herself to go over boundary issues. Again.

“Ice cream’s always good. Do you know where? Because you’re leading the way,” she said with a nod, addressing his last comment next. Priorities, see. She was tempted to snort, but managed to catch herself with the grace of her upbringing. “Picture my entire family’s face if, by some miracle, I was picked out. That’s --- It’s not my type of thing. Strategic thinking, and magi theories, and calculations; I’d be awful at it. Buuut, you, on the other hand, you wouldn’t be so bad. You’re smart, dumbass.”

The one instance that he did not sit his back to a wall as he usually did, she was successful, he jumped. His back stiffened, “Fucks sakes, Travers.” He looked around, scanning the area for anyone else, the cost was clear. “You know how I feel about being snuck up on.”

“You’ve missed me? What’s to miss?” She was likely the only one. “Whatever it is, you’ve got an entire year in my company. Lucky you.” An I missed you too swelled in his stomach, this was his friend, a title Fletcher never just handed out. He maybe had two or three people that he considered to be his friend, Athena was one of the. He casually moved his arm around the back of her chair. “Hypothetically, maybe I’ve missed you too. Maybe.”

A light roll of her eyes, a small mock-pout of her lips. “I was joking. Don’t be boring, Fletch.” But then Athena’s brightening up again, releasing a giggle that’s bell-like in the air. She’s a tactile person at heart, so she raises one of her hands to poke him in the cheek. “Your sunny personality, of course. Can’t a girl miss one of her oldest friends without having to have a good reason? I see you, like, once every few months. Now I’ve got this whole year to bug you. Isn’t that great? --- Unless you’re entering the Tournament and get chosen. Are you? Entering, that is.”

She’s showering him with questions, all at once, in a typical fashion, but --- She doesn’t do well with separations. Athena gets attached easily and firmly, hard to shake off once she’s got a hold on you. She grins. “It’s all right, save your painful confessions for another time. Don’t want you to die from expressing your feelings already.” Still, it’s a nice reassurance to hear from him.

“Miss seeing me in person?” She purposely timed herself to scare him --- or attempt to, anyway. Popping up behind Fletcher was kinda the point, grabbing one of his shoulders, before sliding herself into the seat next to him and leaving one arm up to lean against him. “You’ve been completely deprived of my company, aside from owls and Floo-ing. Isn’t this great? I’ve definitely missed you.”

up bright and early—8am to be exact, jaxon found himself at kaleidoscope for a morning breakfast. he was as tired as ever, but he swore to himself that he would make the most out of this trip. and if that meant getting early on the weekends to explore, then that’s exactly what he would do. with a plate in hand, he stood at a stand-still, his eyes scanning all of the choices. “holy shit, that’s a lot of food,” he said out loud—mainly to himself. maybe a buffet for breakfast wasn’t the best decision for someone who was half-asleep.

she’s used to it now, of course, having attended this school for many years already, and time progressing hadn’t really encouraged her morning eating habits still --- eating in the morning never seemed particularly appealing to athena, so she was nibbling on her own small plate of eggs when she overheard jaxon, adding her own smile. “well, i suppose we’re accommodating for a lot of people.”

                       “godsamme,” cursed fenna — she had wished to do some sketching, but as her hands rummaged through her back ( rather aggressively ), she realised she had stupidly forgotten something crucial: paper. a sigh slipped past her lips and she was ready to curse again when her eyes fell on someone and she approached them with the smallest of polite smiles and asked, “weird question, but do you maybe have a spare piece of paper?”

                       athena evidently seemed startled at being addressed by a stranger with such a question, but she was nothing if not the politeness her parents had taught her. but she wasn’t a person who carried extra items that she really needed, usually borrowing off someone else, so she shook her head. “unfortunately not. what do you need it for?”
