Say what you want about TLJ but at least it had memorable dialogue. I don't remember jack-shit from TROS except "Somehow, Palpatine has returned" and "I am all the Jedi" which were both 🤢.

But TLJ gave us gems like:

"Hope is like the sun. If you only believe in it when you can see it, you'll never make it through the night."

"That's how we're going to win. Not fighting what we hate, saving what we love."

"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."

"We are the spark, that will light the fire that will burn the First Order down."

I was very confused with this dialogue the first time I heard it, because it felt like she was answering his question like “I didn’t take your hand because you could have killed me if I did”. Only later on I understood that she was avoiding his question asking him another one.

Either way I don’t really like it, because in The Last Jedi, the moment Ben is in front of her and Rey doesn’t know if he is going to kill her or not, it is obvious that she wasn’t expecting him to turn against her (she was really sure of him and she said so before).

So the real surprise for her was that he was actually holding his lightsaber in front of her face, not that he didn’t ignite it.

Rey grew up on a backwater sand planet I DOUBT she knows the name of the weird emperor dude that got shivved a while back, PLUS she’s the resistances golden girl I doubt she’d be comfortable asking who tf palpatine is, she’d be too embarrassed. She probably doesn’t even remember his name. And it’s a weird sounding word so

They wrote this film thinking about the audience. They never made something that made sense to the characters.

They established in TFA that what happened 30 years ago was widely considered a myth. People didn’t even believe in the existence of the Jedi and the force anymore. But people now know what a Palpatine is, even though he was never referred as such since he became the emperor.

But we, as the audience, know his name. So the film was written for us.

Did we ever get an answer for this question? I mean, why does Kylo asks this question? They start the force bond in TLJ and only in TROS it is revealed that they are a dyad. Does this question imply that he, maybe, had visions of her before TFA?

I’m an idiot because I thought that he must have had visions of her through the mask of Vader (you know, like those Rey had when she touched Anakin’s lightsaber), because when in TFA he was talking to it he said “show me AGAIN”. So I was sure that that mask showed him something in the past, and that was why he took it with him.

And since Anakin’s saber (which is a symbol of light) showed Rey visions of him, it only made sense to me that Darth Vader’s mask (a symbol of darkness) showed Ben visions of her.

But yeah.

I guess not.

Redemption

You know what I really love about the Reylo community? We all believe in redemption.

And we do that to the point that if you go to Ao3 you’ll find a fairly amount of Reylo fanfictions in which Ben is an actual ant*i and we still want him to redeem himself and find happiness with Rey.

I don’t know, but it makes me laugh a lot.

Why didn’t they shoot a scene for Rey’s vision of herself and Kylo Ren on the Sith throne?

They had already a costum for Dark Rey, it’s not like they had to design it specifically for it.

They should have showed her having this visions more than once. Maybe they could have made them chaotic and unclear, until it becomes clear after she deastroys the ship in which Chewie was supposed to be.

And later she tells Finn.

But how they played with the revelation... I mean... they haven’t really played with it. She just said that, as if she wasn’t the main character whose journey we are following from the very beginning.
