I wake up confused and dazed, not sure whats happening. I look around before I can comprehend what I am doing . Theres a light shadow on everything in my small room. The premature light from the sun seeps through my blinds before I am burdened to unravel my body from the warm blankets on my bed. My alarm set on my phone starts chiming before my feet are able to reach the ground. I feel around my messy bed before I realize that it isn’t there. I feel myself start ti panic even though I am fully aware that the small device is within arms reach of me. I finally find the cool phone underneath my pillows at the top of my bed. I press the “snooze” icon that is lit on the screen before it down. Before I know it, I am leaving the apartment ready for another day at high school.While I drive to school I contemplate dropping out a total of 10 times. Soon I am at my schools parking lot. I gather my bag and everything I need for the day and look in the rearview mirror to check that my appearance is acceptable. Gazing over my messy bun and half assed makeup, I assure myself that there is no one I need to impress other than myself. I take a deep breath to prepare myself for the day ahead. 

“Hey Mr. Acer, how is your morning going?” I ask my previous year math teacher. He continues to tell me how the new curriculum from next years AP classes just arrived. Acer was so passionate about it that I couldn’t help but to be happy for him. He seemed so eager and energetic for such a small elderly man. I could only hope that I end up that happy and content one day

cape atlas is a small beach town hidden away in northern california. there’s plenty of sun surf here, as well as all the basics that every town should have - a movie theater, a small run-down performance theatre, an arcade with plenty of activities, and, of course, the local high school - atlas high.

the students there are similar to those you’d find in the rest of the nation, with plenty of drama and heartbreak and love and friendship to go around. every student is flawed, of course, but that won’t stop them from trying as hard as they can to succeed.

still, there is always darkness in the light, and not everything is as it seems.
