In this 2 hour workshop taught by Lori Coleman-Brown we will review basic anatomy related to the function of breathing, and common holding patterns that are detrimental to our health. We will review and practice the Pilates exercises originally designed to open and strengthen the breath. Even though we stay alive by breathing involuntarily, there is a lot we can do to help ourselves thrive from our bodies’ most natural action. You’ll walk away from this class with more tools to help you in this endeavor.

Anatomy overview of the pelvic floor
Exploration of hip rotator cuff muscles.
Diaphramatic breathing for the pelvic floor.
Practical movement exercises to strengthen and stabilize core muscles.

Anatomy Class: The Shoulder Girdle

Saturday January 14th, 2012. 3-5pm
Our arms are connected to a ring above our ribcages called the shoulder girdle. What comprises it? Which joints are involved? And what motions are available? How is the shoulder girdle affected by various postures, and how does this affect the use of the arms? Shoulder health requires coordination, stretch and strength do perform the simplest reach for a glass of champagne to weight bearing for pushups and handstands. Shoulders can seem like a mystery. We will clear the air with an experiential anatomy lesson and then get moving!
Lori Coleman-Brown will lead a discussion on The Pilates Method, and the traditional Pilates approach to issues that instructors are seeing in their daily work.
This two hour session is an opportunity for professional instructors to to ask questions and share ideas. Participating instructors* contribute to the agenda in the weeks leading up to the event.
Lori Coleman-Brown is a Pilates Teacher of Teachers, trained by Romana Kryzanowska. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience. She holds Masters of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University, and worked in outpatient physical therapy for over 15 years. She co-founded Pilates Seattle International, and served as Co-Director for more than a decade. Lori travels the globe training instructors in the Pilates Method, teaching human anatomy, and educating physical therapists on the remarkable benefits of Pilates. *This workgroup is open to those who have been certified by an accredited Pilates Method teacher training program. Participating instructors are expected to have a comprehensive working knowledge of Pilates exercises and apparatus.

Yasuo Mori has developed a fun, simple recipe for maintaining optimal health with Chi Soup, a complete one pot meal using the macrobiotic principles of yin and yang. In this fun, hands on workshop, Mr, Mori will show you how to make a pot of Chi Soup, and serve it to you as the centerpiece of a delicious, healthy meal.
The practice of authentic Shiatsu was handed down to Yasuo Mori by his mother in Nagasaki, Japan. Over the years he has developed his own unique style of treatment by incorporating his understanding of Japanese folk medicine, macrobiotics, exercise and massage.
Mr. Mori is fully licensed by the Washington Board of Massage and the Washington State Department of Health. He has been a member of the American Massage Therapist Association since 1983, and has taught Shiatsu extensively at numerous colleges, massage schools and private workshops across the Northwest.
