unlike many of fellow cia agents, nina’s life was unremarkable. born to a poor but loving single mom in the streets of new york, she learned very quickly that life is not always kind. one of six, she struggled with her identity and her self-worth. when everything around you is suffocating, how could a flower possibly grow? her story was similar to many of her friends and peers. she found her way to the wrong crowd and found herself in trouble with the law more than once. the young teenager, brilliant but with no where to go, she ran away from home before her sixteenth birthday. for years, she knew only struggle and opposition.

once she was taken under the wing of criminals, she realised she was really good at thievery. she could get in and out of somewhere undetected. she never hesitated and was fast on her feet. it became addicting, the thrill of getting away with crimes. but as she became better and better, she took greater risks. one eventful heist found her in the hands of the cia. the charges were laid out against her: grand theft auto, larceny, and a string of offences that she could not possibly pay. so she cut a deal and began her journey as an aspiring agent.

There are a lot of things one should know about Ilya, but the first and most important thing one should know about him is that he’s a social chameleon. Put him in any situation even without any context and he’ll eventually have the whole room eating out of his hand in no time. With impeccable charm and sophisticated wit, Ilya can get just about anyone talking and talking and talking. A story for a story, he would often say, trading his for his partner’s. The thing about storytelling, though, is that it’s just another form of lying, a form of self-aggrandising mythology, and he would end the day having gleaned useful truths from the stories he hears and all the while never giving anything up from himself.

He’ll tell you freely about his so-called past, but there’s no room for trust in the profession he finds himself in and so one can never really be sure if the recollections he so willingly offers is rooted in actual reality or not. He might tell you about his émigré parents, his family only returning after the Revolution to settle back to the homeland, or he might tell you about Denmark and its beautiful ports, the call of the sea; but none of these will be true, because the truth is this: He was born in a poor little village in Southern Russia, his family of little note, his birthplace not even a dot in most maps. He would have been consigned to irrelevance had his father not been a war hero during World War II, a military decoration that would change the fate of their family forevermore.

With the money from his father’s pension, his family eventually saved up enough to move to Moscow, where he excelled academically in his studies and gained entry to Moscow State University, choosing to study philology. He showed a mastery of languages that made him stand out to his professors, with Ilya showing great skills to adapt and improvise. This aptitude eventually gained him entry to the KGB, who made great use of his linguistic skills by using him as an illegal resident spy, cycling through different personas and slipping into each one with an ease that could almost be called unnerving. Ilya proved himself to be efficient and more than capable, unfathomable charm hiding the lengths he’ll go to in service of his country. In times he can’t get what he wants through the usual methods, he isn’t one to shy away from enhanced interrogation techniques.

It’s with a forced smile through gritted teeth that Ilya welcomes the present situation with the CIA, past experiences colouring his viewpoint and making him biased against the KGB’s current bed partner; but he is committed in his loyalty to servicing the fatherland, so he grins and bears it to the best that he is able, much as he might wish to wash his hands clean of having to work with bourgeoise capitalists.

Zhenya is the first born of nine children in the Vasiliev family, born to an ascetic mother and a utilitarian father. They lived a humble and patriotic life, followed simple tenants: rise early, go to bed late, work hard, and all will be well. Zhenya would have been content to live simply, work in his father’s butcher shop up until he married and settled down, but his twin Mikhail had other ideas. The two had been bound at the hip since birth; they were halves of one whole. Where Zhenya was the quiet boy, restrained, Mikhail was only ever fiery, set alight by the concept of some sort of greater destiny. It was with that destiny in mind that Mikhail wormed his way into the KGB. Zhenya, dragged along by the tug of his brother’s leash, was soon to follow.

Originally unsure of his newfound position but very suddenly aware of the fact he couldn’t leave because of his brother, Zhenya settled. (He thinks it’s a poor word to use, settling, but it’s as close to the truth as he will allow.) He clawed his way through the ranks alongside Mikhail, and it followed much the same pattern as before. Mikhail went out into the field, saw the action, wooed those who would fall prey to the deep purr of his voice. Zhenya stayed behind, his eyes careful. Mikhail might have been the one to load the gun, but Zhenya pulled the trigger; the role of a handler suited him. It allowed for much-needed distance from the work to fool himself into the idea of living a normal life, while keeping his and Mikhail’s bond as tight as it’d been since their childhood.

And then Mikhail disappeared, fell off the map – one minute he was there, and the next he wasn’t. Zhenya spent three years searching for him, half-listless, while the upper echelon of the KGB reassigned him and put him in the place he needed to be to do the best work. Six years into his tenure in 1982, Zhenya realized that his brother wouldn’t be coming back. He’d either abandoned their work entirely, or he was floating in a watery grave, and Zhenya refuses to mourn. It was this sudden and difficult grief that hardened him: humble beginnings are all well and good, but loyalty is better, and it’s all he has.

He learns to lie, to twist words around so they’ll suit his purpose. He learns how to look intimidating under the harsh glare of overhead lights instead of washed-out and beautiful when they are warm. The codename Vedmak originally belonged to Mikhail — it’d been almost a joke, then, the way those beneath the Vasiliev twins had considered them witch-like and cryptic. Zhenya’s happily claimed the mantle for himself. He’s not entirely happy with the situation Lazaretto has left them with but he’s determined to bring the traitor to heel, and crush whatever it is that gets in the way of the KGB under his boot. The CIA might think themselves tentative allies to the KGB, but Zhenya’s eager to see the whole thing done and over with.

Samuel’s parents are Holocaust survivors - Polish Jews who originally had the last name Eichel. They moved to America in their mid-twenties, shortly after the war, and settled in New York City. Samuel was born nearly a decade and a half afterwards, to parents still suffering the aftereffects of PTSD from their experience, though it was never formally diagnosed.

Samuel got almost everything that he wanted growing up, with few limitations. His parents wanted him to have the best life possible - they were products of the American Dream, and they wanted Samuel to experience the best of it. He went to the best schools, received the best education possible, and was often surrounded by books, reading in his father’s library or learning Hebrew, Polish, Yiddish, and German from his mother.

For college, Samuel attended Columbia University, studying Linguistics and Political Science. While he was there, he excelled, his professors adoring him nine times out of ten. He worked hard to earn his degrees and get good grades, wanting to impress as many people as he could in his time there. It was at college that Samuel started exploring his sexuality behind closed doors - he didn’t want to admit to himself that he may be attracted to more than just women, but he wanted to experience what his heart yearned for, and experience it he did. He loved his college years, but he also looked forward to his life and what it would be like outside of the sphere of the university.

After graduating, Samuel took a job with the New-York Historical Society, working on archiving and uncovering things to add to new exhibits. It was while he was working there that the CIA got in contact with him. As it turns out, one of his professors had a CIA contact, and, when he heard that they were looking for new recruits, he put Samuel’s name in the running. Since then, Samuel has recently joined up with the CIA, taking the codename Apollo - the patron god of foreigners, fugitives, and refugees - in honor of his parents. He genuinely doesn’t know what he’s gotten himself into, but he’s more than excited to see where this road takes him.

Nadia’s family immigrated to Russia twenty years before she was born. All she can remember of her parents is how they would joke about the cold being better than the heat. And during her childhood, it seemed like it was always cold. She remembers shivering in their small dark, apartment. And she remembers that the orphanage she lived at her teen years not being any better. But she doesn’t remember the funerals. Nadia doesn’t even know if there were any.

An honest life was never in the cards for Nadia and she fell into the wrong crowd at an early age. The orphanage was home to many miscreants and they taught her how to pickpocket, knife fight, and lie to get away with anything. By the time she was twenty, she found herself in the custody of the russian mafia and although some were vying for her to be killed, her spitfire defiance caught the eye of the leader.

Nadia was assigned to be the personal bodyguard of the boss’ wife. She was equipped with a gun and a knife on either thigh. And for the next ten years, she protected that woman and loved her like family. But she could not fend off the illness that overtook her faux mother, and Nadia held her hand as she faded away.

Shortly after Nadia was recruited by the KGB. They had enough intel on her to jail her for life or worse, and they didn’t offer her a choice: it was service or capital punishment. Nadia was just glad to have a new purpose, and she poured herself into her work as an agent: mostly the rough em’ up loose canon to make her partner look good. She’s been with the KGB for six years and she loves her job. She especially likes the praise that comes with it.

Hello members! Welcome to the main page! Currently the plot, taken, banned, and roles pages are up and running! I will be making a rules page soon and any other page that you request of me! 

In order to claim your character you must send a message to me here on the tumblr main with your chosen role title, fc, and character name. Once you have claimed you character begin devising their backstory. I expect everyone to write at least four long headcanons about their character. 

I will be posted an ‘application form’ soon but it’s really just a character information sheet so I can create character about posts. I hope to have everything ready to go for activity in about one week but please inform me what timeline works best for you.
