Hi!! Well done on getting into med school, that’s amazing! I am hoping to apply to Hull York this year and am just wondering what you got on the ucat and any advice you have!
TYSM!! I can’t wait to start!
To be completely honest, I don’t fully remember my UKCAT score? It was between 649 and 659, so not that high at all, I’d say. I did get a Band 1 for the SJT though, and that happens to be my first, and perhaps most important, piece of advice for HYMS!
Personally, I don’t think my interview went very well. And it’s not just my HYMS interview, I’m just overall bad at interviews I think. The fact that I got rejected from all of my other med unis post-interview just proves that. I can’t say for sure of course, but I think my SJT Band is the reason I got an offer from HYMS. At HYMS, 1/5 of your interview score comes from SJT (it’s scored out of 100, you get 20 points for band 1, and i think you get an interview if you score 60+) but none of my other uni’s looked at it after you got called to interview.
So yeah, try your hardest to get a Band 1 for SJT because (if you get interviewed) that means you are guaranteed a fifth of the points. And that’s especially important if, like me, you aren’t great at interviews. If you already have 20 points, and you need (roughly) 60 to get in, then you only need to score 40 points in the actual interview bit (which is essentially getting half the interview right) to get an offer.
I can’t think of any HYMS specific advice apart from that, but I really hope this is the sort of thing you were looking for. If it isn’t, feel free to ask again, and I’ll try to wrack my brain for something more.
