She flushed at his phrasing, grinned despite herself, and found that she couldn’t contain the way that she smiled, nor the blush to her cheeks. Such words would never lose their splendor it seemed, would never stop affecting her as they did. And strangely, that was fine, she didn’t think she would have it any other way.
“I love you too.”
She had embarrassed him though, and then she had frustrated him, she had gone to far. Her flush became one of shame, and she tilted her head away, cleared her throat as she struggled for the right words.
“I’m sorry, that was-that was rude.”
He couldn’t help but grin with her response. It was always a fifty-fifty shot with Charlotta when he mentioned the word love. Either she blush deeply and grew too bashful, or she said it back to him. Today was clearly a day for the latter and it was those moments he enjoyed the most, hearing those words from her mouth.
Atticus took a deep breath, trying to bring his body back to a happy medium, before he waved her off. “No, it’s okay. You don’t have to be sorry Lottie, I’m still just getting used to everything and how being in human form works.”
