Start the Fall off right by meeting some new folks in the field! Meet-up is from 5:30-7:30pm on Wednesday, September 10th at the Butterfly Bar. Location, beverage and snack options, and more are in this FB event. Hope to see you there!
Come out and show some library and archive love as we hear from Jennifer Hecker, archivist at the UT Libraries, and from Michelle Cervantes, director of Round Rock Public Library. It's a fantastic and free event and you'll get to meet other librarians, archivists, and those in our community who love and appreciate them!

Every year, thousands of people from the tech, non-profit, marketing, and business sectors descend upon Austin, Texas for South By Southwest Interactive. It’s a diverse crowd of enthusiastic, forward thinking individuals that are there to learn and connect with one another.
This year, as in years past, librarians, archivists, and museum professionals will be jumping into this conference to spread the library love and learn outside of our institutional silos.

SXSW Interactive Library-Related Organizations & Activities:
Electronic Resources and Libraries (E&RL) IdeaDrop House
Features: Salon style discussions with other attendees; intimate discussions and interviews with SXSW Interactive Speakers, including Austin Public Library Staff members.
Why you should attend: Interested in meeting other like-minded LAMs (librarians, archivists, or museums professionals)? This is the touch-down space just for us where we can brainstorm and think big with some big thinkers in the LAM world.

Austin Public Library & GeekTheLibrary.org
Features: Whatever you geek, the public library supports you. Join Geek the Library in spreading awareness about the value of libraries and the critical funding issues they face.
Why you should attend: If you’re near the O Henry House / LABRARY by the Convention Center, stop by to get an ‘I geek Libraries/[fill-in-the-blank]’ profile pic ready for instant social use! The photos will be uploaded instantly to APL’s Facebook page, where participants can then grab them to use throughout the festival and beyond.

EveryLibrary
Features: Early morning breakfasts at the IdeaDrop house and meet-ups at Mugshots on 7th Street.
Why you should attend: Learn about national library advocacy, join the effort, or just share a beverage with a colleague in a laid back space slightly off the SXSWi beaten path.

sxswLAM Advocacy and Outreach
Features: An umbrella group getting the word out about many of these exciting events, sxswLAM also participates in highly interactive experiences with SXSW attendees to share their library love. We’ll be giving away coozies and library tattoos in exchange for actionable proclamations from attendees about getting involved at their local library.
Why you should attend: Demonstrate to the masses how librarians subvert expectation. Also, duh, coozies and tattoos!
When & Where: Outreach demos at the Mugshots meet-up (3/7) and the EveryLibrary breakfast on 3/8 happening at various times. Check the sxswLAM.org site.
Library Test Kitchen / Labrary
Features: See how a Harvard Graduate School of Design course proposes and prototypes real world possibilities to contribute to the library conversation. They care about libraries and they see libraries as a place for possibilities for people from all different walks of life and professional backgrounds. Co-sponsored by the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation.
Why you should attend: Go for the machines and stay for programming; Austin Kleon speaks on Saturday, March 8th!

Urban Librarians Unite and the Volunteer Library Brigade
Features: ULU facilitates dialog between libraries and library workers, encourages new developments in library science, and advocates for libraries and librarians in urban areas.
Why you should attend: Be a member of the Volunteer Library Brigade and show people the work of the librarian in unusual ways and unusual places! Get a sweet Info-Medic arm band!
