Nobody was ever truly willing to experience an excessive amount of pain, such as dismemberment of any limb. The shaman knew this and made sure to ensure the Alpha that he would experience pain for but a moment. Before lifting the knife to a reasonable height, ze tossed a bandana to Sylvan.
”Bite down. Hard.”
And just like that, the swift movement came crashing down on the man’s index finger, severing it completely. It was a clean cut, and with his own healing powers, the blood flow was minimal. That was when Sicilia went to work, murmuring an incantation under zir breath. One hand was firmly placed upon the man’s hand, taking away the pain of his injury, while the other carefully began to reconnect the severed finger and channeled healing energies. One of the totems illuminated, and a steady flow of green energy lighting seeped through to the space between the hand and the limb. And not a moment later, the limb was properly attached with absolutely no sign of trauma.
”Satisfied?”
The bandana is held between either row of teeth, eyes falling shut because, really, the sight of a knife severing his finger really isn't one Sylvan is interested in witnessing. A wince paints bearded features before the knife's even struck down on his skin, yet the given advice as to bite down on the bandana is involuntarily disregarded as a roar tears itself from his lungs.
He'd barely managed to let the rumble simmer in his throat when the pain quite suddenly dissipated and something felt... different again; it felt right, as it should. Eyes crack open, yet gleaming red as they peer down at his hand.
“Holy shite—— ya weren't jokin', were ya, ma'am?”

sylvan is actually a fairly spiritual man; spiritual in the sense of wanting to ensure his targets (meaning victims) find their place and rest in their form of afterlife; he does so by wishing upon them a peaceful death in prayer after he's somehow robbed them of their life.
despite his profession and all, one day he would love to have a bigger family of his own.

“Where I come from in West Africa…––”
Ze carefully removed zir totems from her bag… as well as a large sheathed knife. Four wooden carvings in the shapes of wolves were carefully placed on the table next to the weapon of sorts. Truthfully, the Shaman did not go around town removing people’s body parts. In fact, this usually rested in zir bag for collecting herbs and plant samples.
“Nobody in our tribe is allowed to call themselves a healing Shaman, until they can prove their skills to the elders. To do this ritual, we must dismember a part of our own body, so as not to pose a threat to anyone else.”
Sicilia remembered zir test well; ze chose zir hand. It was excruciating… but the honour and respect that followed was more than worth it.
“I have nothing short of a 100% success rate, Mister Lapidus.”
Eyes lower to the totems taken from the bag—— although the sight of a knife has Sylvan's fingers flex involuntarily so. Never once has he willingly suffered pain as significant as this, let alone for a cause that is merely checking up on the other's skill. By the time he is spoken to again, his stare gravitates back up to the shaman's face.
“That weirdly enough makes me feel better. —— Alright, a hundred percent success rate? Let's try keepin' that up today, aye?”

If there was one thing that never failed to amuse the shaman, it was the fact that men were always so hesitant when ze asked the question as to whether or not they trusted zir. This would prove to be a little difficult, however, as Sylvan was an Alpha. He healed much faster than any form of shapeshifter in the pack. Dismemberment was the only way for him to sustain injury long enough for zir to demonstrate zir abilities.
“I will have to dismember your finger. Of course, with your permission. And when you are ready.”
Ah, there it is: the impossible request that would have any other wolf back out in legitimate horror. Although Sylvan is visibly struck with shock and hesitation, the repositioning of his stance into something a little more befitting of his usual confidence is imminent—— just as his following answer is.
His hand sprawls across the table.
“Okay. Do it. — Wait, tell me what your success-failure ratio is first. As long as it's over three to four... feel free.”

Sicilia was well aware of the sceptics that were all too prevalent in American society. This was not to say that ze did not believe in science. The shaman had a great respect for all that science had to offer, particularly where zir healing powers could not reach. Ze lifted zir eyes to meet the curious gaze of the Alpha across from zir.
”Yes. We call it ‘restoration’. Do you trust me? If I use myself as an example, it would take all the fun away.”
Gaze grows wary as the moment of silence extends itself; some sort of plan is formulating in the depths of Sicilia's mind and Sylvan wants to know what it is. The partial answer he receives only further worries him.
“That would take your fun away, I'm guessin', but fine. Go ahead... —— Just give me a bit of a warnin' whenever you're likely to hurt me.”
“What's that? It smells... good.”

“Of course,”
The shaman humbly nodded at the man sitting at the kitchen table across from zir.
“That, I have definitely noticed. However… the only person who needs to be spiritually minded, is me. My skill set ranges from extensive healing to… resurrection using ancestral spirits and elements. More often than not, the shamans in the village were protectors and healers.”
Part of Sylvan remains extremely worried about the pack's reaction to officially introducing a shaman to them, whereas his other, somewhat more spiritual, part feels quite certain of the positive effects it could have. Surely, those would be worth Leroy's stink-eye and Bennett's possible reluctance to believe in what isn't proven by science.
“Wow, really? So other than simply takin' away pain, ya can also heal people other than yerself?”

While Sylvan was trying to be humble, he was still utterly unaware of the fact that his home was incredibly luxurious in comparison to Sicilia’s humble beginnings. Parakou, the closest city where she and her family and pack dwelled, was far from the consumer capitalist haven that was the United States. Everything was in abundance… Houses with more than one floor and a proper roof were small luxurious.
“Difficult is an understatement, but nonetheless, he is loyal.”
“Now… You were saying that you have been seeking spiritual and healing assistance for you and your pack?”
His house is little more than two floors and a roof over their heads. It creaks in more spots than he'd like it to; it's too small for the amount of people it harbours—— and although the chance of having to pack and leave due to work is always there, he's found this place has become his home.
“He is.” That's why he's second in command. “Well, I'd more so like to discuss what the possibilities are in terms of general support you can offer first. My pack is... not the most spiritual one, you might've noticed.”

Sicilia smiled warmly before extending a hand out to shake.
“While your beta is an acquired taste, you do have a lovely home. Shall we begin?”
“It's barely nice, Sicilia, but thank you all the same.”
Her hand he shakes as prompted, not much later stifling a laugh.
“Yes. Leroy is a bit of a... difficult man, at times.”

" it’s somethin’ she has ta go through herself. ” it was in a soft tone as fingers ran through his hair lightly.
“I know. I'd just hoped I could spare her that.” Logan's scent he inhales; memorises it once more before pulling away and planting a kiss to her brow.
“Thanks— for listenin' to me mope for a bit.”

“——— Uuugh.” Now he resorts to planting his head on Logan's shoulder out of exasperation.

“No, I'm not thinkin' that. I'm just wonderin' if you've ever dealt with guilt? 'cause I haven't and I cannot figure out how to get rid of Benn's for the bloody life of me.”

“She got herself in some trouble before we met up on the night of the full moon. She went to pick up Leroy at the base he works at but he somehow got himself tangled with some guys he served with and Bennett actually just... lost control over her wolf for the first time that I know of. I think this might've been the first time she killed people, Lo.”

It was true, Jason couldn’t go five minutes without lighting a cigarette, and proceeded to do so. He took a few pulls once the cherry was blazing as he listened to the other speak, nodding his head in agreement before speaking.
"Yeah, I can understand that, man. Pack member, huh? Don’t know what that’s like. More of lone wolf myself."
“Is that so? I've been meetin' a lot of ya as of late; a lot of lone wolves, that is. Seems like bein' in a pack is goin' out of style. But all that aside: how're things for 'round here? Any hunters on the prowl that ya know of?”
