This is fanart for the very beautiful fic series "What the Darkness Does" by @audiopilot . One of my favourite parts is how it shows Stolas's and Blitzo's love for Octavia.

Guess what, I still have a lot of feelings about audiopilot's What the Darkness Does. So many feelings, in fact, that this time I had to use watercolors and tempura paint. Anyway, here's Stolas in some of the finery that he and Blitzo ripped out of his carriage. Attar’s birds journey in search of a king, an allegory of the Divine known as the Simurgh, shown here in the middle-right with an elaborate tail.

When the birds find their king, they see themselves also transformed into birds: in achieving their vision of the Divine, they realize that they are the Simurgh (literally, ‘thirty birds’). A masterpiece of 12th-century Sufi mysticism, the text in Persian echoes Platonist thought on the connection between the soul and the divine intellect.
