  After an argument with Erica, he didn’t feel like focusing on feelings tonight. At   the giggling sound and her words, Theo figured dancing with Ella wouldn’t be a   bad thing. He made his way forward to her after tossing back a shot and took   hold of her hand with a grin.

Ella took his hand and pulled him out to the dance floor. She began to move her small hips to the music, her blond hair swaying as she did. She giggled as she moved closer to him. “Why are you dancing we me anyway?” she asked him not wanting to think about anything, but she was curious.

Ella already had a few drinks in her system she figured that she should make use of the open bar and actually try to have fun tonight. She giggled as brought the cup to her lips. “Come on,” she waved toward the dance floor moving her hips to the beat. “Do what the song says, Shut up and dance with me.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say Ella.  I wanna be your friend, I want you to know that just because I fell in love with someone else, doesn’t make you any less important or special.  It doesn’t mean you aren’t beautiful and kind and smart.  It just means my heart wanted something else.”  He hated this, wished there was a way to change the way things played out.  “I never meant to hurt you, you have to believe me…”  He looked over at her and sighed softly.  “Ella we don’t have a choice.  We’re gonna end up on dates together and partners for stuff and we’re sharing a room, I think it would be easier for us both if we agree to try and be friends.”

“I’m not asking you to say anything, I’m just talking to you.” The blonde really wasn’t in the mood for this talk. It wasn’t the first time she heard this exact same speech. ‘You’re great, but I just really fell for Alice, I don’t know what it was.’ She wasn’t stupid, of course it was just because she was less than the other girls. “I never said you tried to hurt me in the first place.” She really didn’t know what he wanted her to say. Did he want her to say it was okay that he flirted with her, kissed her and then picked someone else? It wasn’t okay with her. “No, it would make it easier for you. I just told you why it would make it harder for me, but fine, we’ll be friends.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t be what you wanted me to be.”  He sighed, rubbing his temples and trying to figure out when things got so twisted.  “Look, you know I think you’re awesome, and now that we know we’re a match we’re gonna be spending a lot more time together so I think we should at least try and be friends.  I like you and I couldn’t think of anyone else who would be better to have by my side through this.”  He frowned at the idea of Ella sleeping elsewhere.  “No, you take the bed I’ll make myself comfortable elsewhere, this is my fault so I should be the one to sleep on the couch.”

“Don’t apologize,” she shrugged. It was something Ella had grown very accustomed to by this point. She didn’t even know why she was surprised by it honestly.”I beg to differ, but sure,” she said as he said he couldn’t think of anyone better to have by his side through all of this. If that was the actual case they wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. Honestly Ella under any other circumstance would have been thrilled that Stiles wanted to be her friend. “Stiles, don’t,” she said as he tried to say he would sleep elsewhere. “I’ll take the couch, stay in the room. I already said it. I’m a big girl, I don’t need you to try and take care of me now. You have a girlfriend to take care of.” She sighed as she looked at him. “I don’t know if being friends is a good idea. I actually liked you and it would be kind of cruel to spend all this time together when I know you don’t feel the same way.”

“So do you. If Stiles can’t see how great you are then its his loss. You deserve to find someone to love, that’s why we came here. And now everything has gotten so screwed up.” She sighed, moving back slightly and leaning her head against Ella’s. “I have to believe that things happen for a reason. Maybe all this happened because the money you win somehow leads you to your soulmate.”

“Yeah, I’m just going to focus on helping my sister and everyone else find their matches,” she said softly. Ella was a firm believe in love and that everyone could find it, but it seemed to dwindle more and more lately. Ella leaned back against her friend and nodded. “Something good always comes out of something bad, I believe that,” she agreed. She really hoped that no one else in the house had to keep going through this. It wasn’t a very fun feeling at all. “Make sure you keep in touch even after the show, okay?”

“Don’t be so hard on yourself, honey,” she replied, frowning at her negativity.  “I’m sure he’s just as disappointed you two aren’t a match as you are.  But yeah, I guess it’s not easy knowing that the guy you’re ‘perfect’ with would rather be with someone else.  Honestly, Allison and Stiles kinda made a mess by getting so attached so fast.  I just hope she finally moves on and lets you two have a chance.”

“I don’t expect that to happen,” she replied. “I just want to help others find their match so that we can go home,” she stated boldly. She smiled softly at Maya. “It would be too late now anyway. I would always feel like a second choice and wondering if he would rather be with her. Besides, I do care about him and I want him to be happy.” She really wasn’t that upset about losing Stiles. He did matter her to her, but it just stung at her insecurities. Having a match that doesn’t want you or liked someone better made her think that this was always going to happen.

“That’s not what I meant I…”  Stiles sighed and looked down at his lap as he moved to sit next to her.  “I just mean that it’s nobody’s fault that we’re a match but we’re not a match.  Ya know?  I feel like they took some answers to a personality quiz and decided who was supposed to be your soul mate based on that without ever getting to know us as actual people.”  He hated that she was crying because of him, because he’d fallen for someone else when it was supposed to be her.

“Yeah, I guess,” she shrugged. Ella wasn’t sure believed in the system fully, but she gave it more faith than a personality test. “I actually understand the matches that we’ve found out about so far, but everyone has their own views.” She looked at the ground and then away from him. She didn’t know what else to say. There was nothing else really to say honestly. “Uh, I’ll sleep on the couch or something out here so you don’t have to worry about anything.”

“I’ve barely even seen my match,” she admitted, sighing softly.  “Hey, I never had to go through the pain of getting my hopes up like that.  My sister’s been through it twice, poor thing.  I just thought it would help.”

“This whole love game really sucks I guess. Poor Erica,” Ella said softly. She had no idea she had gone through it twice. “I really liked him and I thought we connected, but uh, probably just like every other guy and thought I was too weird,” she shrugged. “I mean I’m more upset that my match doesn’t want me over Stiles himself if that makes sense. I hope you and uh Derek, right? That you guys get to spend more time together.”

“It is his fault that he got his mind set on someone and refuses to even look at anyone else. Especially someone as amazing as you.” She hugged Ella even tighter. “You’re way too good for him.” Ever since Stiles and Allison started creating drama she drifted from them. It was selfish.

She was glad that Erica was being there for her it meant a lot to her. “I guess so,” she said softly. She felt bad blaming him for how he felt, but they were here to find matches. It was a very confusing subject honestly. “I hope your match and you are happy when you find him. You deserve it,” she said to Erica.

Stiles frowned as he heard her response to being his match.  He knew she didn’t think he’d heard her but it still hurt to know she was that disappointed it was him. “I’m sorry..”  He sighed as he stood behind her, deep frown lines on his forehead. “If it makes you feel any better, I think this match system is crap anyway so it’s not your fault.”

She looked up to see Stiles there and his words didn’t help her either. Now he thought the whole system was crap. “Why would it be my fault at all?” she asked him furrowing her eyebrows together. Did he blame her for being his match or something? She was confused. “You don’t have to sit here, I doubt you want to be here anyway. You can go,” she said softly as she wiped away a few tears.

“Me neither,” she said, happy Ella was smiling again. “We should start a kennel if we don’t find any men.”

“That would be so fun,”  she smiled wider now. “I don’t think Matt would like us running a kennel  at the house though.”

Maya walked over to Ella and sat beside her, holding out a glass of wine.  “Won’t make it suck any less, but it might make you forget for a little while,” she offered, frowning slightly.

Ella gave a small smile as Maya held out the wine. “Thanks,” she laughed lightly. “Do you have a connection with your match?” she asked taking a sip of the wine. “It was really sweet of you to bring me this.”

Erica reached around and hugged Ella. “I’m so sorry, sweetie. You deserve better than all this. You deserve better than Stiles.”

Ella returned the hug to Erica and sighed softly as she wiped away her tears. “Thanks, but it isn’t his fault he likes someone else. It’s just a really crappy situation,” she said softly. “This always happens at home and I thought it might be different here.”

Alice didn’t like how their lives had turned out so far, so how could it possibly be more bad things ahead of them? She liked to be optimistic, but sometimes it was just hard to be.  “I know,” she smiled at Ella. “A dog lady?” Alice couldn’t help but chuckle a little. “Yeah. I know, but you’ll be okay. I know you will.”

“Yeah. You know I’m not a  big cat person. Dogs are more for  me.” She smiled at her. “Thanks.”

Alice frowned a little. She never really knew what she did right to get guys, she just did. Like it was natural. She never meant to steal anyone from Ella, ever. She wouldn’t to that in a million years. Alice stroked Ella’s arm comfortingly. “I just want you to be happy,” she said, pressing her lips together. Honestly, for her sister she would offer her Shia, but since they slept together that would be awkward.  “You’ll find someone. I know it. Maybe not here – because let’s face it, this shit is a mess… But some day. Soon, I can feel it.”

She knew that here sister never did these things on purpose. It was just life and what happened with them. Both her and their older brother  Matt had been kind of unlucky in love. Then with Vic, she had love, but things got complicated with her issues which led to her murder. Ella didn’t like to think about that. She leaned into her sister’s touch. “I want you to be happy too. I  really hope you get that,” she smiled. “Maybe, but I could always just be  a dog lady too,” she shrugged. “Tell me about it. this place is a wreck.”

Alice looked at her sister. She couldn’t really remember one time it was different. Jeremy liked Alice, not Ella, despite their similarities. Of course, he liked Vicki too. What a dumbass.  “How about that Doug-guy? I liked him. You dated. He chose you,” Alice said, frowning a bit. Of course, she never knew why they broke up. “And Andrew, right?” And that ended too.  “Why is he not your match? He hasn’t been matched right? I say go for it!” On the other hand, perhaps Tristan was Alice’s match, she didn’t know that – and then it would get weird.

Both of those relationships had gone up in smoke because both guys  wanted Alice. She had never told  her sister though. They thought that they could make her jealous. “Yeah- didn’t really want me,” she shrugged. Ella has been a pawn in the game but Alice hadn’t caught on to it.  Ella gave a small smile. “It’s not fair to whoever his match is. You just  said that yourself. plus, with my luck it will end up being you or he will fall head over heels for his  match. I kind of just want to go home.”

Alice nodded, brushing her sister’s cheek with the back of her hand. “I know, and it’s pretty unfair to the matches. Maybe after the game…” she said quietly, knowing that love outside the matches was the source to Ella’s sadness. “No they don’t… Not everyone wants me.” It was kind of true and Alice hated that. Why did they always go for her? Ella was smarter and just as beautiful. Did Alice being a cheerleader really make that much of a difference? “You’ll find someone, you’ll see. Is there anyone else that has caught your eye?”

It wasn’t really even the game or Stiles that Ella was crying over. Of course that totally sucked enough on it’s own. She had really liked Stiles, but she respected his choice. It just really stung that even her supposed match wanted someone else other than her. She was upset with herself that she had let herself believe anything different. She was upset that her sister was hurting over this stupid game too. None of this was fair. “Name one time it was different,” she whispered to Alice. She knew she was  trying to help, but Ella knew the truth a long time ago.  She shrugged as she looked at the ground. “Not really, no. Maybe Tristan -he seemed nice, but he’s not my match. So, what’s the point?”
