“She doesn’t want to run away. Nobody seems to want to get away from the problems, except me.” He sighed and held his head down low. “Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I just didn’t have to deal with all this shit and be normal again, be completely unaware.”

Well, uh… That’s smart, yeah. What my wife and I thought of, though, is if anyone tries to do anything to you, you can still file charges against them for inflicting harm.

That’s not too bad. In fact, I might just have to follow suit with that because I’m not harming anybody. I’m just trying to live, to keep living. That’s what I think humans don’t get about this lifestyle, it isn’t something we chose, it was all accidents mostly.

“I don’t plan on going back. Not with all this supernatural shit going on. What if I was held there during a full moon. I can’t risk that. Best behavior is our bet bet.”

“I didn’t even know you went to jail,” she admitted with a half-shrug, listening to the entirety of his statement, “You just need to lay low like you said, you and Olivia both. It’s safer for you two, and honestly it’s what most of the community should be doing right about now.”

“Well, that’s because I haven’t told anyone except Kevin who bailed me out. He promised he’d keep it a secret.” August shrugged, but figured it was stupid to be hiding behind secrets any longer. “Well, yeah, that’s what I said. In fact, I think it would be best if we just ran from the city and left everything behind so we wouldn’t have to deal with all of this shit.”

“That’s the smart thing to do,” she replied back with a nod, “If you haven’t been suspected of anything related to it yet then it’s best to just try and stay out of it completely.”

“I mean, I’ve been trying my best. I do not want to go back to jail. That place was not made with my needs in mind.” He stated before adding, “Thank god I didn’t spend the night on a full moon there, or else shit would have been bad.”

“No, I’m just trying to keep a low profile. With all these crazy people on the loose, the last thing I need is to be suspected of anything.” August freely blew smoke into the air from his latest drag as he leaned against the brick wall of the alley.

“Well, maybe it’s less of a voluntary thing, and more of a...taking without asking thing.”

Kevin laughed, nodding. “Yeah, that happened more times than I can count. The werewolf thing helps with it though and it’d never be bad for more than a few hours.”

“Oh, well shit. Yeah, that makes sense. Really, do you have anything to worry about then? Your face is fine, you might be suspected to be a supernatural, but no more action has been called against us except...you know..grouping up and such. We’ve just got to be on our best behavior.”

“Fuck.” He rubbed his face, trying to think of another solution, but coming to nothing. “Maybe we could just get some human to always have around, and you could drink from them.”

August’s brows lifted, before he narrowly escaped a fit of laughter. “Aren’t you just the charmer? Didn’t you like...used to fight or something? I’m sure that fucked up your face a little bit.”

“Yeah, well, guys don’t usually compliment us just for the sake of complimenting us,” Meg pointed out. “I wasn’t born a witch,” she replied matter-of-factly, shrugging, “You said I smell human, so you’re either a vampire or werewolf, and wolves seem to rely on scent more than vamps.”

“Look, I’m not like most guys, and maybe you’re just not like most girls, alright? Can we call it even.” It wasn’t like the wolf was trying to pick a fight with Meg, he was merely appreciating the aesthetic. “Then...how did you...become a witch?” He didn’t know much about the magical community, apart from what he was involved in, but even then, it was slim to none. “Okay, alright. You caught me. I’m a wolf. Big deal.”

“Where would we even go? This isn’t just happening here.”

“I don’t know. To a cave or something. Just...leave everything behind. We could go live in the country somewhere. A place where no one would bother us.”

“Alright, so new plan. We get reconstructive surgery to look like brand new people...”

“You sure you’re saying it ‘just so I know’?” Meg replied with a smirk. “I’m still human, I think. But I can do this,” she commented, feeling the magic course through her as she caused her glass to float a bit in the air for a moment. “I’m guessing you’re a wolf, then?

“Yeah, just so you know you look great. Geez, I thought girls liked compliments.” August said rather unamused, his lips thinning into a straight line. “You’re a human but you can do that?” His face deadpanned, “I don’t think that makes you human. It looks like you’re a witch. And yeah, I’m a wolf, what gave it away?”
