First Post ...
I think everyone wants their first post to be something significant, even though I know the likelihood of anyone reading this is slim to none. After watching a movie last night, I felt this was the best time to make my first post.
Last night, I watched shanebitneycrone's movie, Bridegroom. Many people remember seeing the poignant, emotional video that Shane posted to YouTube in 2011. If you haven't seen it, please go watch it ... http://youtu.be/pR9gyloyOjM Due to many factors, that video led to the movie being produced. It is a documentary about what Shane went through after a tragic accident took Tom's life. To say what happened to Shane is unfair is an understatement. You have to watch the movie to get the full impact.
I have never been much of an advocate for anything. If anything, I advocate for people, not for causes. Causes change ... become political ... lose their meaning. People are people. I want to stand with Shane and stand for Tom in this fight for true equality. No, I do not know either of them ... probably never will even meet Shane, but sometimes you know who a person is and what they stand for ... and what is right to do.
Watch Bridegroom ... it is on Netflix ... read comments from others that have faced something similar. Tell me what is right. As a Christian, yes, a Christian(a fairly conservative one, at that) I know what is right. Right is standing up for the oppressed. Standing with the hurting. Standing for those that can't stand. Today, I take a stand with Shane and stand for Tom against injustice and hatred. At the same time, I pray for Tom's family. It is a rough road to do both. I want to hate his family, but I can't. I do not support their actions. The sad thing they do not see is they have lost two sons and they don't even see it.
Shane spent almost 6 years with Tom. In that time, you see a love many do not have in a lifetime. I have never experienced that. I hope one day I do ... even for a short time.
