I believe it’s up to our interpretation, but my personal headcanon is that he got captured by the Valar, and so did Sauron.

Dear Eru, you are so absolutely, overwellmingly adorable and cute. Maybe Sauron is not really my favourite character (i guess Aule should spank him for being such a d*ck or sth), but still you can make him impossible to hate in your comics x). Nice work :)

The best thing you can do is ask the Valar to send you to the Void or if it's impossible to close you in the Halls until the world ends. Only then Morgoth's stain will be away from this world.
