“Hm?” Koku snapped out of his thoughts. He saw the massive sway of downtown’s eyes shift to his direction. There was a bow of a violin pointed towards him, he realized, held by a flamboyant looking man. He must’ve asked me for a request, he thought, trying to come up with the first song he could think of. “Please play Mozart’s ‘A Little Serenade,’ please.”

“Mozart.”

“Certainly, I’m more than capable of playing a little Mozart, but you should know that Mozart...”

He visibly struggled to find the words to describe Mozart. Clearly, he was unable to go with his first choice in description, nor his second, and not his third.

“... is a rancorous buffoon.”

With that, he tucked his violin back under his chin and began to play. At least his ability matched his lively attire; his bowing was, in a word, confidant, and the sound of his golden violin was clear as glass.

Koku had just woken up. It was the crack of dawn, and he had to go job hunting again. He had finished doing all his mundane chores, packed his things, passed by the roommates he never talked to, and left for Downtown of the Fibonacci Ward, where he always started his search. It’s always busy there, no matter the time of day…

Fortunately, Orion happened to be in a ‘casually accosting strangers’ mood. These things just happened when he had his violin out.

It had something to do with how the bow enabled him to point dramatically, just like he was pointing at this stranger in Fibonacci.

“Any song requests? Oh, but they have to be good! Nothing less than golden!!” It also had to be a song he knew, but that didn’t sound as nice when said out loud.

“Uh, Orion…?”

There’s a creature? Coming up out of the bathwater between his legs, and his partner is in the next room, as far as he knows.

He doesn’t want to raise his voice, in case the thing actually reacts, but… there isn’t much choice at this point.

“Orion!” He’s pressing himself as much to the walls of the tub as he can while calling out. “I need you grab a flyswatter or something and get in here!”

Orion was locked deep in contemplation with his own image one room away. His highlights were definitely growing out – he needed to make an appointment with a trustworthy stylist immediately, before it was too late – then he heard Titan’s panicked voice.

“Titan!? I’ll be right there!”

One moment later, there was the familiar sound of a great many things being knocked off the kitchen island, followed by the heavy footsteps of a bison barreling to the bathroom door.

“Titan, I’m here – WHAT IS THAT THING?”

He did the first thing that came to mind – throwing a folding fan at the balloon, into the water.

Scrolling through his previous texts. He’d been bored, longing for some form of contact that wasn’t Galekh at this point. It was fine, but the same day in and out. Tagora felt almost cursed staying here, but he couldn’t leave. It was pretty tragic.

He found an old thread of texts about some sort of emoticon that got named. Weird, but Tagora figured it was worth revisiting.

An out of the blue message, but hey.

Orion didn’t recognize the name, or the number, but he recognized that emoji. A quick scroll up in the message history was enough to confirm who this was.

Even though this is what he anticipated, the sight of Orion wilting still makes Titan’s heart drop. The probing questions don’t help, either, because it’s a testament to how difficult the answer is for him to grasp; not that Titan had expected him to immediately understand.

“No, it isn’t anything like that.”

To reaffirm as much, his grip tightens on Orion’s hand.

“It’s nothing you’ve done, this… is all me. I need some time.”

He knows it isn’t very convincing, there’s no way it could be, but between his own scattered thoughts and their very public location… it doesn’t feel like the time to start a longer explanation.

Slowly, Titan lowers himself to Orion’s eye-level, and very carefully reaches to brush his cheek with one hand.

“…” He catches himself before he can ask if the bison is okay. He already knows that answer too well. “I’m still not going anywhere, though, okay?”

Orion grasps Titan’s hand as it brushes his cheek and holds it there. Even though it’s Titan’s own rejection that’s bringing tears to his eyes, there’s still no one he’d rather see at the moment.

So he swallows the feeling. He can feel it later… Titan deserves a happy day with his brothers.

“As… as long as you say that, I’ll always believe you, Titan!!” There was a little extra, unintended force behind that – the combined force of putting on a good face and trying not to think about the last time that Titan had said something similar. It catchest the attention of a few regular mall-goers, not that Orion is the type to notice.

“But… No. I trust you, absolutely. Should… we go get your brothers?”
