Fly Away with Me!

Tropical destination weddings are a fun and economical option for the couple not afraid to shake up tradition. There are so many reasons to choose destination: ease of planning (if you have a good resort planner and travel agent), beautiful scenery, relatively budget-friendly pricing compared to the wedding industry stateside, and did we mention a FREE vacation?! Most often a resort will offer a free stay to the couple who brings their friends and family with them! 

Design options for this tropical destination wedding are just as bright and fun as the opportunity. You can use bright colors and florals in excess and flowery goddess-like dresses are a must!

Today I created an invitation for a tropical destination wedding. To satisfy a non-traditional couple, I needed a unique invitation suite. I created an invitation and reply card based off of a boarding pass and luggage tag. I used cheery yellow flowers and complimented it with a bright magenta, but this design could be adapted to any color scheme.

YEE HAW!

As fall approaches, what could be more fun than a cowboy or cowgirl party?! If your little one is more rough and tumble than prim and proper, this is the birthday party for you! Think hay bales, bandanas, hobby horses and sack races! As it approaches October, you could even include pumpkin carving and pumpkin spiced treats!

Today I chose to work on a cowgirl party invite. It features browns and pinks and of course, what cowgirl would be complete without cowboy boots and a hat!

Springtime in Paris

Paris has been dubbed one of the most traditionally romantic cities in the world. While not everyone can get married in Paris, many couples choose to theme their wedding in true Parisian style. The big question is, which way should they take it their theme? You can do a French cafe, complete with baguettes, wine and cheese or go a bit kitschy with barrettes and a french flag color scheme. My choice today, however, is to focus on a more sophisticated and romantic option: springtime in Paris. Think soft pastels and lots of flowers with little hints of the Eiffel Tower (you have to be careful not to overuse it or it will quickly become cheesy and overpowering).

Today I created a blush and soft green Springtime in Paris Wedding Invitation. I did go a bit bold with a large Eiffel Tower, but I faded it out into the green to keep it less imposing. I kept the text very simple and sprinkled several flower petals across the page. This is perfect for the couple who loves soft romance.

Autumn Harvest Wedding

For all you getting married this fall, this one is for you! Sure it's easy to go with your traditional burnt oranges, maroons and olive greens, but consider a lighter alternative. If you are looking for that autumn vibe but with a fresh twist, throw in a bit of mint or more of a peachy orange paired with a golden yellow or maybe even a soft plum. By keeping your colors in a subdued palette you can afford a color twist while still maintaining that harvest feeling. 

Today I have created a wedding invitation for such an Autumn wedding. I used a creme base with a bouquet of goldenrod, peachy orange and mint. I kept the wording sophistical by simple to allow the florals to be the centerpiece. This invitation is perfect for the sophisticated couple getting married in the fall.

Let's Jump!

I recently went to a jump park with my little one and I have to say, those places are so much fun! (Just be sure to watch your kiddos carefully to ensure they are being safe!) She came out of there super excited because she wanted to bring all of her friends back and have her birthday party there. What a fun idea?! As far as planning a party goes, it doesn't get much easier: most jump parks will provide food and have a party room. All you have to worry about are the decorations (if any) and the cake!

Today I have created a jump birthday party invitation for a boy, but this could also be adapted for a girl. I used the background of the trampoline and bold block letters with silhouettes of kids jumping. This is perfect for your rambunctious and active kid who is "too cool for baby stuff". ;)

Lemon Lime Wedding!

It's officially May! My favorite warm weather theme I have seen recently is Lemon Lime. If you use these colors as accents and couple them with white, they are bright and fun and perfect for a summer wedding. You can use these colors in your linens and decor and even create a signature cocktail with lemon and lime slices!

Today I created a playful wedding invitation and reply card. I kept white space to keep the invitations light and airy. This is perfect for the young and fun couple who are having a summer wedding.

It's a Peacock Party!

Peacocks are often a popular choice to theme parties off of because of their rich, bold colors. In the spirit of the modern bride, however, these colors are popping up in more weddings than you would expect. I recently saw a bride who had her bridesmaids in short dresses and purple shoes and her's in a turquoise blue. This made for an adorable picture! I have also seen stunning tulle flower girl dresses in this color palette. Brides embrace not only the peacock's color, but also his feathers! They use them in bouquets, at place settings and even on their garter!

Today I have taken this theme and created a peacock wedding invitation. I used mostly turquoise and a rich purple along with hints of gold. Of course, I incorporated the iconic  peacock feathers to frame the couple's name. This is perfect for the couple who is perhaps a bit artsy or who loves a rich color scheme.

...I'll be your honeybee!

I have recently come across honeybee weddings and they're as sweet as they sound! This is a really cute way to achieve a country wedding and still be unique! You can give your guests jars of locally made honey with wooden spreaders or honey scented bar soap as favors. The yellow honey color lends itself perfectly to a summer wedding while the black and white stripes or honeycomb patterns add a bit of sophistication. Don't forget all of the cute signs and tags you can use "You're so sweet to share our day with us" or "bride to bee."

Today I created more of a bee-themed engagement party invitation, but will be hitting the honey side of the theme a bit more in my next blog. I used black and white stripes with looping dots to show the bee's path. I also incorporated "Meant to bee" which I felt was most appropriate for an engagement party (or maybe a save-the-date). This is for the couple who wants a unique outdoor wedding.

Est. on...

Lots of brides to be embrace taking on the identity of a "Mrs." You see all kinds of t-shirts, and tote bags with "Future Mrs." or "Mrs. Est." followed by their wedding date. This is a fun way to celebrate the union of the couple. I personally love the established trend. I think this is a really cute way to commemorate your wedding date!

Today I have created an "Mr. & Mrs. Est. …"Save the Date postcard. It is shown in rose gold here but I have also created a gold and platinum versions. I paired glittery Mr. & Mrs. lettering with an informal script font. On the back side, I did a faded out engagement photo to add a personal touch. This is perfect for the informal. modern couple who loves the idea of a postcard Save the Date.

Candelabras

Candelabras go perfectly with a traditional, elegant wedding. Think of a night wedding dimly lit by beautiful oversized candelabras. They make fantastic alternatives to large floral arrangement for centerpieces and other decor. Metallic candelabras are effect for the more traditional couple while black or colored ones are perfect for the more modern or out of the box bride.

Today I created a black and blush colored candelabra wedding invitation. I used scrolling fonts and one simple candelabra as a focal point. This is perfect for the couple who wants an elegant evening wedding.

Religious Wedding

For all of you who dream of a big church wedding, this one is for you! Think big traditional church with romantic architecture, and candle lanterns lighting the aisles. I would suggest several soft neutrals and one bold deep hue.

Today I created a Christian wedding invitation with 1 Corinthians 13:13 quoted at the top. I used a soft blue and burlap color paired with a bold berry accent color. This is perfect for the church traditional bride with a bit of a design twist.

Sunshine Yellow!

Bright yellow can be a fun way to shine up your event! I especially love this trend with weddings! Brides can easily incorporate this signature color in their linens, flowers, the grooms attire, and even their wedding shoes! You could go yellow and a soft grey for a romantic feeling or yellow and black and white for a wedding that pops! 

Today I have created 2 versions of a chevron yellow wedding invitation. The first is on the romantic side and paired with roses and grey. This is perfect for the bright and happy romantic couple.

The second really brings out the bold geometric by pairing the sunshine yellow with a jet black. This is perfect for the fun and daring couple.

Literary Nuptials

Today I want to talk about library and literary themed weddings. I have seen everything from chandeliers made out of old book pages to a wedding arch made entirely of vintage books. You can include signs and displays of quotes from your favorite love poems and novels. You could even do really cute engagement photos in a library or have your ceremony there!

I have created a wedding invitation and reply card based off of this theme. I used a vintage book background with a soft pink and scrolling fonts. This is perfect for the book-loving couple.

Pop, clink, fizz!

Champagne and champagne color schemes are a great way to theme a celebration! Use nude, blush and maybe a deeper accent color such as a dusty rose or a plum. These colors add sophistication while the champagne onomatopoeia words of "pop, fizz and clink" can be used in signage to add fun and friendliness to the celebration. Incorporating lots of translucent balloons to act as champagne bubbles will really enhance the decor.

Today I created an invitation for a dinner or cocktail party based off of the champagne theme. I  chose rose gold and plum for this occasion. This would also be great for a new years party. This is perfect for the youthful couple who wants to host a more formal dinner party.

Minnie!

For your little one who loves Disney, but isn’t quite a prince or princess kid, consider a Mickey or Minnie’s Club House themed birthday party. You can use pink or red polka dots and contrast them with black and white. I have seen really cute mouse ear cookie pops made from 2 mini Oreos and one large one. You can also attach 2 small black plates to one larger one for your place settings! Of course, you’ll also want to have black ears for everyone to wear!

Today I created a Minnie pink polka-dotted birthday party invitation. I made sure to include lots of shades of pink and variants of patterns. This is perfect for the little one who loves Disney.

Come Sail Away with me!

If I had a little boy, I would love to have a sailboat themed birthday party or baby shower. Think red, white and blue, stripes and polka dots, and mis-matched bunting! I have even seen little sailboats folded out of scrapbook paper to act as soft bowls for food like pretzels or goldfish. You can also do water games with the little ones, so this would be perfect for a summer birthday! 

Today I created a sailboat birthday party invitation. I incorporated various patterns all in the red, white and blue color scheme as well as anchors and miniature sail boats. This is perfect for the little boy or girl with a summer birthday.

Military Themed

Many military couples choose to embrace their military life and theme their weddings after their respective branches. One of the tips I have picked up is to considered getting married on base. Not only will you save money, but (in most cases) you'll have access to beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities and the officiants are free! As for the theme itself, I would suggest to keep away from kitsch and keep it simple and traditional. Pay homage to your branch by pulling your color scheme from a dress uniform.

Today I chose to design an invitation for a Navy Wedding. I used navy blue and gold with an anchor made into a heart. Otherwise, it is simple and clean. This is perfect for sophisticated couple who wants to highlight their military life.
