Today on the 18th of December 2017 at 6:45pm KST, vocalist Jonghyun of SHINee was reported to have passed away. He was found unconscious in a rented apartment, but passed away on the way to the hospital. Police suspect that he might have committed suicide and that carbon monoxide poisoning is a likely cause. However, police are currently still investigating.
Today we lost a brother, a son, a friend, a colleague, a senior, a junior, a mentor, a role model, an idol, an inspiration, a motivator, a supporter, a member of SHINee, and an amazing person. He was a man who created happiness and spread happiness to those around him. He was someone who wished to guide others in finding the joy in music. He was someone who looked after others, and took care of his family and members. He was a loving, caring, funny, and sometimes awkward, yet amazing man who never failed to put a smile on someone’s face.
Dear Jonghyun, thank you for all your hard world till now. Thank you for making such amazing music that reached all corners of the world. You have done well and have lived well. You have been an inspiration to many and will continue to be someone to look up to due to your endless support for those who are suffering and cast out by society. Thank you for being the one who truly got me into music. Thank you for introducing me to kpop. Thank you for all the years that you have stood by us and created fun and enjoyable memories. Thank you for being a bright ball of sunshine and happiness. Thank you for reaching out to others and for lighting up the dark. Thank you for spreading your music and sharing it to the world. Thank you for all the happiness that you have given me, Shawols, and everyone.
I’m sorry that we could not help you out of your sorrow. I’m sorry we did not see how much you were suffering behind your smiles and joy that you were radiating. I’m sorry that you felt you were not good enough, or that you had to leave the world because it was too much of a burden on your shoulders. I’m sorry we couldn’t save you out of your misery. I’m sorry that you had to go through all this and suffered alone. I’m sorry that we did not support you enough to make you believe you were deeply loved and cared for. We Shawols are sorry for not being there when you needed us most.
You will be greatly missed, not only as a member of SHINee, but also as a loving person with a big heart and one who stood up for others.
May you rest in peace. May you finally find rest in heaven and no longer cry, suffer nor hurt. Thank you truly, for everything.
