Gifford Arboretum Lecture: Bahamian Plants 

- Solid lecture @TashanaTaylor! The most interesting thing I learned probably has to be that there are species of Spider Lilies in the Bahamas that Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden collects because they are iguana-proof. 

I am pretty upset that my raffle ticket wasn’t a winner. I wanted one of those plants...

Here are a few beautiful pieces of art amongst many others, created by Sean Cavanaugh at the Lowe Art Museum “Under the Elders’ Gaze” exhibit. 

 - To me, the trees are the “elders”, as they have inhabited the earth long before those who so frequently force them to vacate. With thought-provoking titles like “Fallen Feast”, “Peeling Away”, “Almost Earth”, “Soon to Soil”, “Storm Damage”, “Sickly Siblings”, Cavanaugh illustrates the immense sacrifices that trees go through for the benefit of mankind. He personifies them with his words to project a level of sympathy for our fallen elders. They were here before us, and have lived to see us grow, yet we fail to recognize the support that they give us day in and day out. Providing us with the air that we breathe and the shelter of many our homes, you would think that at some point we would appreciate their existence. With no way of communicating, we must speak for the trees. @TashanaTaylor

A Pink Moon is coming April 10. Here’s how to see it.

What’s a Pink Moon? It’s another name for April’s full moon, and you can catch it in the sky through the early hours of April 11.

Those expecting to see a rosy hue might be disappointed. According to Space. com, the Pink Moon got its name because it coincides with the appearance of a pink flower called the moss pink or phlox. Other names for April’s full moon include the Egg Moon, Fish Moon and Sprouting Grass Moon.

April’s full moon will likely appear in its usual color, but it should still be a sight to behold. The moon will be accompanied in the sky by Jupiter and the star Spica, the Palm Beach Post reports, meaning Monday night’s sky gazers will have plenty to see. Read more. (4/10/2017 2:00 PM)
