Obviously we don’t know but I really don’t think Austin will be in Heat 2 now. Miami Vice is rumoured to start filming in August. So is Heat 2. I really think Austin backed away to focus on Miami Vice. He doesn’t have time for both. Also, I think he likely stepped back as soon as Leo came on board for Chris as that was Austin’s role.
I think we'll know for sure soon enough. ☺️
Also, keep in mind that the Heat 2 book (based on what I've heard) spans and goes back and forth between years, so the film will more than likely be both a prequel and a sequel to the original Heat film. So, let's stay positive!
If Austin does end up being in the film, I get the impression that it will more than likely be a smaller role, especially given that it's an ensemble cast. So, he might not need that much time for filming.
I say all of that to say, we really don't know what might be announced in the next few weeks.
Leo might be playing an older Chris, and they might focus more on the present than the past. Leo and Christian seem to be the major headliners of this film, so I'm assuming they will have the biggest roles.
My feeling on this for now is just to wait a little bit more, and see if anything else comes out regarding Heat 2. 😊
If Austin is in the film, great! But if not, that's fine as well. The director/studio may have changed directions on where they wanted the story to go when Leo signed on, and decided to focus more on the sequel portion of the story, instead of the prequel portion. #shrug I just don't see Leo playing a younger version of Chris, when he's actually older than Val Kilmer was (and looks it 👀) in the original Heat film. Leo is in his 50s lol. 😄 With that said -- We probably won't know for sure until they start filming tbh.
All we know for now is that Austin was training to audition, and that he was in talks for possibly playing a younger Chris Shiherlis. That's literally all we know.
Either way, I'm just glad that Austin has continued to move forward and take on other roles, and he hasn't stopped his life for Heat 2.
