Catastrophize Benedictine
anyway your friendly neighborhood autistic got a job and is doing Alright so far aside from feeling a little off attempting small talk with colleagues
except for realizing she’s stimming at work when for solid three weeks she thought she was acting perfectly neurotypical
(i do a little waiting dance every time i’m on the phone, oops. explains though, i do not like the phone part)
@eddygetsgrounded errrr basically i applied to the wackiest place i could find, 99% sure they would hire anyone who doesn’t run away screaming after seeing how things are done around there
i really, really, really needed money and it’s an adventure and a half tbh

had a meltdown in mcdonalds earlier lads
@autistickeely I'm fine, I came back home, took a nap, had a long bubble bath and a good night's sleep :) I'm getting the hang of the whole self care thing!

i learned that a man with autism named Ketan Aggarwal was called “stupid” by a gym instructor so he taught himself law and won a discrimination lawsuit against the gym (x)
He said after the case: “He called me stupid twice. Calling someone with a mental disability ‘stupid’ is similar to mocking a guy in a wheelchair. If I was that stupid I wouldn’t have been able to successfully pursue the claim against a solicitor of a billion pound company. It was two years coming and it was hard work. I’m not a legal professional and I had to do a huge amount of paperwork. I had to live in the library, picking up law from the books, and getting templates for submitting paperwork from the internet. It was worth it though. It wasn’t about the money, it was about the principle.”
tbh Louis Litt from Suits is A Very Relatable Autistic Screwup and you can't convince me otherwise
like, seriously, to me his story is a story of someone who is too good at masking for their own good and who constantly messes up because he is in a field where being able to pick on social cues is crucial
(special interests: law, mudding, cats, theatre)
autistic tag yourself
me five minutes before performing an unexpected social interaction: curl up and die curl up and die curl up and die
me immediately after successfully performing said interaction: I AM THE QUEEN OF THE WORLD, BOW BEFORE ME FOR I AM THE BEST AT PASSING AS NEUROTYPICAL
so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god
okay so i just got my dream job??? a week after applying to it?? and now i’m thinking….maybe this is the good luck post
what are your samefoods?
every day I have special k with berries for breakfast and a peanut butter sandwich for lunch
what about you guys?
right now it’s oatmeal for breakfast (savoury with cheese and egg) & grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, except one side of the sandwich is actually an egg in the basket
so, you could say my samefoods are eggs and cheese prepared in different ways i guess
other autistic folks, is being barefoot on grass sensory heaven or sensory hell?
heaven, heaven, heaven, small rock under my foot, OW, HELL, HELL, HELL, HE-
To other autistic people
does anyone else constantly stumble over their words and say the completely wrong (but somewhat related) word sometimes? For example, saying stuff like:
“I’ve never seen that song… I mean that movie”
“That’s a good idea… I mean question, that’s a good question”
“Can you grab that cup… or the bowl I mean”
Is this just a me thing?
I have a thing that I call a ‘hesitation’, it isn’t a stutter but, well lets say I want to say ‘I need some apples for my pie’ I forget how to say the word ‘apple’
I forget the word so completely that I have to describe the fruit ‘I need some… Some round, normally red, with white flesh, good for cooking in pies or sauce… etc’
Yesterday I was asking if my dad wrote my mum a cheque and I forgot the word cheque but my sister received one in the mail and my mum was going to mail it to her.
I actually said this to my mum ‘Did dad write you the thing like the one you will send [sister] but for rent?’
She didn’t get it.
Sometimes I can’t think of a way to describe the forgotten word (how do you describe jumping?) and the result is a very pregnant pause while I try to think of how to say the word I forgot.
While it is not exactly the same as you describe I can fill the forgotten word with something completely out of left field like cup for bowl or what have you.
Today I ran around frantically asking my boyfriend to help me find the "thing with big squares for writing things in it".
Notebook. I meant a notebook.
I'm glad I'm not alone in this.
I love the fact that basically every main character in Brooklyn 99 can read as autistic, and each one in different ways. I may be biased since it’s my favorite comfort show, but I mean ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
my headcanon for B99 is that everyone except for Jake is autistic...
...and Jake has ADHD.
(source: everything that comes out of Jake’s mouth is something my boyfriend - who has ADHD - could, and would, say. or did say at some point.)
autistic people with compassion but not empathy are more moral than allistic people with empathy but not compassion
i went to a job interview yesterday
guess what? i didn’t get it. not because i wasn’t skilled enough. but because i wasn’t social enough. because talking to me wasn’t “back and forward enough”.
i did my absolute best to be polite, friendly and sociable and it just. didn’t. work.
i’m incredibly disappointed, i wanted that job so damn much :(
