NAP TIME Post-series Prompt Fourteen: Kitchen table

“Um, excuse me.” He leans down, looks the feline directly in his green eyes. “You’re in my way.”

Felix lifts his head and meows, his claws curling on the paper he’s resting on.

Rick chuckles and scratches the cat behind his ears. “Fine,” he sighs, “I’ll file those later. You can stay.”

He’s fast asleep at the table when Kate gets home hours later, and when she sees their cat curled up behind Rick’s still-open laptop, she smiles. Rick had insisted that the cat never be on the counters or tables, but he gave that up almost immediately.

She runs her hand along Felix’s back, and although he meows and stretches, he curls back up on the table and falls back asleep immediately. She trails her fingers through her husband’s hair, and when Rick doesn’t stir, she just presses a kiss to the top of his head and retreats to the bedroom to change.
