its amazing how proximity to XLibre instantly sucks the intelligence out of peoples brains
the following are genuine claims made by XLibre fans i have encountered
claim: "It's not untested, it's a fork of X11!"
response: i'm not an experienced developer, but i'm fairly sure that isn't how that works once the fork has made changes (which XLibre has), when you fork and make changes to a repo, the onus lies upon you as the maintainer to test your own damn repo
claim: "XLibre isn't DEI like X11, and thus superior!"
response: you are a fool
claim: "Fedora is gonna adopt XLibre!"
repsonse: no they aren't, what you are thinking of is a proposal, any moron with a Fedora Wiki account can submit a proposal, and the politics of the maintainer, the recency of the project's creation, the lack of any significant number of actual meaningful changes at this time, and the fact that the proposal jumps the gun directly to replacing Xorg as soon as possible all make it highly unlikely that this proposal will be accepted any time soon
claim: "Red Hat is paying freedesktop.org to kill X11!"
response: do you also believe that the earth is flat? i've seen about as much credible evidence for that conspiracy theory as there is for yours
XLibre is maintained by a paranoid moron who thinks that IBM is personally out to get him specifically, and that DEI is one of the roots of freedesktop's problems, i have zero respect for Enrico whatsoever, he is more interested in weaponising Xorg for the sake of his own ego, yelling about the DEI monster in his closet, and getting yelled at by Torvalds for spreading anti-science bullshit on the LKML than actually getting anything done
XLibre will not end up going anywhere, mark my words
in addition, there are several (still open) issues on the XLibre github that are just people getting mad about "leftoids" and "corporate sponsored Linux news sites" trying to "mark us all as 'right wing nutjobs'"
I would be willing to pay attention to XLibre as a project (I have nothing against the idea of someone continuing development on X11) but Enrico has demonstrated time and time again that he's a move-fast-and-break-things kind of developer who gets very upset when people dislike his breakages. Throw in his chud shit and nobody is going to want to touch this project with a 10-foot pole - many projects have already stated (such as Alpine and Chimera) that they will never adopt XLibre.
Enrico has also demonstrated that he doesn't know basics of C:
i know nothing about C, and i won't pretend to (i'm a python girlie), but not knowing basic syntax is inexcusable in any language
the again, from the other things i've found about this guy, i'm not surprised
i had no reason to ever care about XLibre (i use exclusively Wayland on my PC, and X11 is perfectly fine as is for my ancient laptop), but i was at least passingly interested until i actually bothered to figure out who Enrico is
by the way, it still hasn't gotten any better
about half a year later, xlibre:
still offers very few advantages over xorg, not enough for the vast majority of users to bother with it
is still being maintained by a paranoid moron
has fans who are still parroting all the exact same talking points i showed in the original post (with the exception of the "it's not untested" one, because nobody cares anymore)
is still willing to die on that dumbass "DEI bad" hill
still isn't used by any distro worth talking about (most distros don't even have an official package for it yet)
gets no coverage whatsoever from linux news outlets due to the aformentioned lack of advantages over xorg
so yeah, xlibre will not be supplanting xorg anytime soon
taking a break from tumblr for a bit
those who want to talk to me, i'll be accessible on matrix, wafrn, and discord
bai for now

LibAdwaita
something that i hate about LibAdwaita is it refusing to, under any circumstances, FOLLOW MY KDE STYLE SETTINGS
if i set a colour scheme, every single app either uses it by default, or can have it enabled in the settings (even if it uses an ancient version of qt, or doesn't even use qt at all), UNLESS IT USES LIBADWAITA, where you only get barebones light and dark themes if i set my window decorations, every single app uses them, UNLESS IT USES LIBADWAITA, which forces that gigantic, space-wasting, flat as fuck, ugly-ass Adwaita titlebar if i set my application style, most apps use it (or at the very least parts of it), UNLESS IT USES LIBADWAITA, which uses the same, flat, devoid-of-personality Adwaita styling as GNOME LibAdwaita apps won't even do the bare minimum of using my fucking accent color
you call LibAdwaita apps "adaptive", SO HOW ABOUT YOU "ADAPT" TO MY FUCKING THEMEING
half the reason i refuse to use GNOME is that if i don't like something about the UI (i.e. the giant fucking titlebars), i have to just deal with it, instead of being able to fix it and because of LibAdwaita, i have to deal with that even when i'm not using GNOME
and of course, then there are THESE fuckers (https://stopthemingmy.app/), who i have plenty to say about, but i shall leave that for another time
in conclusion: GNOME, stop making LibAdwaitia incompatible with themes that work with everything else. because i, as the user, should not be forced to use a theme that has less personality than the average terminal emulator, from a DE that i don't even fucking use
An open letter from an independent app developer to the wider graphical community
great parody of the stopthemingmy.app monstrosity
yeh, already seen that and i love it
hi autumn!!! haiii!!!
haiii digi :3
hai! just wanted to say that the pfp for this blog looks rlly cool! ^w^
its like a portal into The Rant Dimension
true :3
I didn't know about the "stop theming my app" thing. That is a wild ride (just read it), but what I find ironic and funny is that among the devs that sign it are literally people making Adwaita theming app, or a creator of icon theme.
yeh, its dumb as shit
