Apologies if this is a derail to make it about indigenou people like myself and my family- but... christians made residential schools to rape, abuse, torture, kill, and erase indigenous kids culture and commection to their identity. All because natives are seen as "primitive" because we didn't align with white people's views. I still suffer the intergenerational trauma from my grandparents being in residential school. Those schools, that colonization, all of it didnt even happen a long time ago. No. It's still fairly recent in they eyes of history. The last residential school closed when my oldest brother was a baby. He's not even 30 yet. Even then, there are still schools and churches and other places that used to be residential schools that are still being found out that there are graves. Graves of little kids. All unmarked. All without names. On the property. On the land. In the ground without anybody knowing the names of the children who were left to die without any care or thought. My grandfather and my mother were both told they could never marry or fall in love with somebody darker than them, that they needed white blood to fix their mistakes of being native. They arent even dark-skinned either. They are pale. So pale that other native people dont associate them as natives, yet too dark to be associated with white people. My mother still believes in christianity/catholicism, and she sent me to catholic schools (because most of the schools here are catholic now) because even though she was never apart of residential schools, her father was, and insteda of teaching her how to be native, he taught her how to be white. Because he was colonized in those schools. He was losing his identity as a native man, due to christians and white supremacists.
Just because somebody holds a belief. Does not mean it excuses the pain and suffering that people with that belief have caused them- and continue to fause for their children, and for generations beyond.
Christianity took away my ability to call myself native without feeling like i am faking it because of what assimilation has done to my family. Dont you fucking dare attempt to say hating christianity is invalidating victims of it.
The only connection i have to my own damn blood is items that i know are native in orgin, yet i have barely any idea what they truly mean. And i have to live with that because nobody i know will ever be able to teach me my own culture. I've been refused my own culture by my mother before. I've only dont one (1) native thing once in my life. And that was go to a powwow. I was 3. I remember that day still, but it's fuzzy, and i know that i misremember it, because i was 3, how am i suppoused to remember it? I somehow do anyways. I remember my brother dancing. And i remember sitting on the sidelines and watching. And thats the only part of my culture i had ever participated in- i wasn't even participating.
Again, sorry if this is a derail- and very sorry that i'm somewhat venting- but fucking hell. Christianityis literally apart of white peoples culture!!! It's part of the way english people SPEAK. Jesus christ, god damn, oh my god, dear god, holy *blank*, etc etc, all those phrases? Thats all common phrases to say in english, and you can notice very clearly its all just bleeding with christianity. Its still part of the way i speak because i gre wup with that, even though i hate christianity i still speak like i am one. Christianity is baked into white peoples worldviews, it's the foundation for colonization and it's the way those assholes assimilated people like me, like us.
Get out with your bullshit. Your god couldn't save you from. And he won't save you. You think youu are so supreme and high and mighty? Unfortunately, your god would send you to hell without a second thought. And in hell i hope you rot.
