Some person: Circumcision is bad
Me: I agree, I don’t think that non-essential surgical procedures on an infant for aesthetic reasons is appropriate in any case
Some person: FGM and circumcision are the exact same thing and I can’t hear discussions of FGM without constantly bringing up circumcision, I honestly believe that removing an infant’s foreskin is the same thing as removing a 12-year-old girl’s labia and clitoris and sewing her vagina closed

As a women studying A&P and have spent a lot of time on specifically women’s anatomy for abortions rights, yes, I know what a clitoris is. I’m confused about if you’re saying it’s equivalent to cutting the head of the penis off or the entire thing? However, neither would be true. In first world countries, when FGM was still legal and though not super common was happening, it was almost always the clitoral hood. The next one that was somewhat common was removal of the whole clitoris. Removal of the lips and sewing it are rare, even in the tribes and countries that practice FGM this hasn’t been common for a long time.
Removal of the hood caused over sensitivity. Unlike MGM, it caused enough sensitivity to be uncomfortable. Removal of the clitoris caused a loss in sexual pleasure, as 8,000 nerve endings are cut off. However, the foreskin has 20,000 nerve ending that are cut off. MGM also is believed by doctors to be the cause of 3% of all male deaths. FGM kills many too, however its mostly in 3rd countries were it’s not clean and they don’t have the proper tools. Same for a lot of MGM deaths. Still many deaths in first world, but much more preventable. They also in first world would use anesthesia on girls, only 20% of doctors use it on boys even though the pain has been proven to cause horrible lasting effects through out their lives.
They were also both started and carried out for the same reason. Both were thought to prevent premarital sex as well as masterbation. Both have been proven that they do cause less bacteria build up preventing infections.
Both are horrible, but to me what really makes MGM so bad is that we can’t give boys the same freedom we have given girls from stopping it. They both cause lasting pain, they both kill, they both have no reason to be happening. I’m sorry you can’t look past your gender and think about what’s happening to men too. I believe in fighting for human rights, not what benefits me. Not all the problems in the world are womens. If you want sources cause you obviously have never look into this topic, I’m writing an article about MGM and have about 20 I could give you to hopefully help you understand. But if you’re set on only believing women have struggles, you’re just blind and wanting to play victim.

Right, women can do anything they want and have free thoughts unless they disagree with you. Shouldn’t you be proud of women thinking for themselves and choosing what they believe in? What of all the feminist saying women can chose to shave or wear makeup for themselves and not for men, but a women caring about men’s rights? Obviously submissive, trying to get laid, and please the damn evil men. This stuff cracks me up. Not to mention all the lesbians I’ve met with in the MRM group.
i can get behind why guys want the practice of circumcising babies to stop, but the SECOND you compare it to female genital mutilation you have lost all my respect
Asking for an article I’m writing, why is it you find FGM worse than MGM? Trying to get others reasoning for the comparison.
If you excuse circumcision on the basis that it’s less extreme than some forms of fgm, then you are also making an excuse for less extreme forms of fgm. Do not ever excuse the forced cutting of a child’s genitalia. No form of forced genital cutting is mild.

I’m writing an article about circumcision and would like to hear why you see fgm as worse? The most common and almost always the one done in the past 50 years is where they remove the clitoris hood and it almost always happens either at birth or when they’re 18 and consent to it, because of misleading teachings. Sources can be provided, I’m just on my phone now where my articles sources are on my computer. Not trying to start a debate or fight, obviously a very bad thing. Just interested in hearing others reasonings
People who compare female genital mutilation to circumcision are obviously clueless about at least one of the practices. Also, those who attempt saying that they are equally as terrible are ignorant and should do some research.
