BIOGRAPHY.

Despite being born as the daughter of a Mexican father and a New Yorker mother, Ava was raised deep into the Grunge scene of Seattle and experienced it to its fullest. It was amongst that very same crowd that she found herself for the first time and she loved it.

Her parents were ( and still are ) total hippies that just wanted her to live her life in the way she wanted to and experience the beauties of the world, as they once did in their youth. They were the reason she decided to skip college and travel around the country in a van with a couple of friends at the age of eighteen.

During her many travels, Ava met a woman and fell madly in love with her. She wasn’t used to allowing herself to be so open to feelings like that but she jumped into the relationship without much thought. They weren’t together for long when her impulsivity lead her to propose and move in with her girlfriend only to find out a few months later that she wasn’t ready for any of that yet. Neither of them really were. And so they went on their separate ways.

Ava went after actual education, then. She liked the way she was leading her life but it also wasn’t really going anywhere and she couldn’t stand it anymore. She needed to find a purpose or she’d go absolutely insane. And so she fooled around for a while, got herself a degree in business management which did nothing but bore the fuck out of her but it would help her some time in the near future, unbeknownst to her. 

Seattle became stale, the life on the road had been much more fun and stimulating to her, and so that’s where she returned to. It didn’t take her long to find Roswell, somewhere that was weird enough to keep her interest alive but also provided just enough security to settle down. Ava wasn’t getting any younger and the need to find herself a new home, a place where she could grow roots in, only grew. 

She moved out, became an official resident of the alien obsessed town. The opportunity to buy ( and revamp ) the record store in town came as a surprise to her but she welcomed it. She liked to be busy, to have something to work on, and then Feel Good Records was born and she’s been the proud owner for nearly four years now.

Ava is, undoubtedly, still a mess. She can pretend that she has her life put together since her business is always thriving but when it comes to her personal life? Some things are better left unsaid... Or overshared after a few glasses of wine. Still she’s happy with the way her life is now, even if there had been a few bumps here and there.

“hey now,” bel began, her eyebrows pulling together to meet in the center of her forehead. “it may not be in high demand for some people, but i’m not just some people. i’m a person that’s deeply obsessed with this movie and owning any sort of paraphernalia that i can possibly get my hands on. soon enough, court is going to kick me out on the streets with my david bowie shit and tell me to fend for myself.” the raven-haired girl cracked a smile as she said this, hugging the album to her chest in a maternal way, her feet dragging her towards the counter. “when the rest of the world fails me, ava, i know you’ve got my back. a true friend if i’ve ever seen one.”

“he’d be a complete fool, then. we all know there’s no artist that can compare to the magical being that was david bowie. i feel like your obsession is more than justifiable” ava lightheartedly says, shaking her head as she leans forward against the counter. “i have an unhealthy obsession with fleetwood mac and prince -- and no one better dare say a word about them to me.” she adds, smiling as she watches the other with the album. “don’t sweat it, you know i’ve got your back. you let me know if there’s any other records you’re searchin’ for and i’ll be sure to place a special order just for you.”

ernesto’s laugh matched the nearby brunette’s when she pointed out that a florist probably wasn’t going to be selling lettuce, and he lifted his hands, then gestured towards a bucket of what definitely looked like greenery he’d throw into a sandwich or salad. “hey, you could slap a ‘romaine’ sticker on those and feed them to me — i’d have no idea. i mean i might die, but i’d have no idea.” he said, raising his eyebrows pointedly, then nodded towards the display in front of them. “well, it’s my assistant’s birthday. so go ahead. which one of those would you want to get from your boss?” he asked, folding his arms and waiting for ava to pick out which of the available bunches she believed, in her own words, looked good.

“ernie, querido, please do not embarrass me like that in front of the florist.” ava starts to shake her head at him in disapproval, joking lightheartedly. “if you can’t distinguish flowers and plants from vegetables then your issue’s much bigger than i thought.” she gently places her own choice of flowers aside so that she could pick out a bouquet to help him, humming at his question. “i am my own boss, so...” ava teases, smiling at him as she starts to make a bouquet of yellow roses and daisies that looked good to her but she didn’t know the meaning. it seemed as though ernesto wasn’t bothered by that. “these, i think, would make any employee happy. it’s simple but still charming -- wouldn’t you say?” she wonders as she extends the bouquet in his direction.

“Wouldn’t dare.” Jay feigned innocence, yet they both knew he was only toying with her because he could. It was the only reason he was there right now, after all, as much as he hated to admit it out loud. “Least you’re in good company, if you can call me that,” he added then with a small shake of his head. Truthfully since moving to Roswell things hadn’t gone anywhere near as good as he’d have liked them, too, so nights out alone at least meant that he was doing something. “Well, I wouldn’t class it as particularly interesting, but Dea and Xavier’s mom is in Roswell now. She’s staying with us until she finds a place.”

“you’re the best company this girl could ask for... tonight.” ava winks at him, though the joke is in good spirits. she did enjoy the company of jay, no matter the occasion, and found that it had been a good thing they’d ran into each other that night. sipping on her wine, eyes widen slightly as she listens to him. “oh, i see. and is that, uh, is that a good or bad thing? are you two on good terms? well, i should hope so, i bet it wouldn’t be pleasant to share a house with your ex otherwise.” she wrinkles her nose. “sorry, sorry. i don’t mean to pry, of course, that’s your business. we can talk about somethin’ else entirely if you want to.”

Staring out the window pensively had great dramatic effect, but there wasn’t really much to see outside from that particular window. Still, though, green eyes stayed locked on the fence next door for far too long until Bryn took another long drink from their glass and turned slowly on the spot, brimming with gravitas. They couldn’t not be dramatic. “Have I really grown as a person if I still want to be with somebody I loved so long ago? When we were barely adults, just beginning to see the realities of life?” they spoke carefully, emotion threatening to spill over. Lake was…a complicated subject, still. “We were in college then. Getting arrested together at protests. Having sex in inappropriate places and almost getting caught. Having fun together. That was more than a decade ago. I just turned thirty-five. Have I not truly grown up if I still want them, even more badly now?” Bryn’s lips pressed into a line; they’d been thinking about this far too much ever since the person in question had seemingly just appeared in town a few months ago. “It isn’t like it’s twenty-two-year-old Lake that I still want, they intrigue me even more as a fully grown adult. I don’t know—I feel like we have this cosmic connection, written in the stars. Or, or it’s fate or something, nobody has ever really understood me on the same level as Lake has.” They took another, much longer drink, deeply unsatisfied by the mental gymnastics they’d been doing over this conundrum. “I don’t want old times back, I’m happy enough being grown.”

ava swirls the drink in her own glass around while keeping her eyes onto her friend’s figure, not daring to interrupt them as it seemed they were having a bit of a moment. though in a less dramatic form, in some way, she could understand what they meant. of course, her ex wasn’t someone she knew when she wasn’t the person she is now and as much as it was confusing all the same, she wasn’t as torn as bryn seemed to be about the whole thing. “what’s the deal with exes and bein’ so damn irresistible?” it’s an attempt to lighten up the mood in which the other had fallen into. “but listen, cariño, as much as the feeling may still be the same as when you two were together, neither of you are. you’re grown up, as you just said, you’re completely different and new people.” ava pauses for a small sip from her drink, pursing her lips ever so lightly. “i think it’s normal to feel a little torn about the whole situation, because it’s been so long since you last saw them. but if you say that it’s written in the stars, what’s stopping you from bein’ with them? what’s stopping you from getting to know this mature version of the person you once loved so much? and clearly still does?”

tomas picked up his own drink when it was set on the counter and brought it to his lips, taking a long sip as a faint hum sounds in the back of his throat. “well, i’d never intentionally ignore you,” he starts, head cocking to the side just a touch. “except, you know…” right after they break up, he might have been guilty of ignoring her a time or two, if only because he’s pretty sure that those times, it might end up in a yelling match. “i never intentionally try to be an asshole.” though, he’ll admit that it happens everyone once in a while, and there’s not a ton he can do about it. “you’re welcome for the free coffee,” he adds, voice soft as he looks down at her. he shifts on his feet just a touch, clearing his throat before he lets out a brief sigh. “how have you been?” he asks finally, genuinely curious as he takes another sip of his coffee.

ava didn’t hold any grudges against tomas, things would’ve actually been much easier if she could bring herself to hate him -- maybe that back and forth wouldn’t exist anymore if she’d been strong enough to do that. but she couldn’t, no matter how many times they’d break up and ignore each other for the most stupid things. “right. maybe you are just an asshole, you ever think ‘bout that?” she’s teasing, clear in the grin that appears on her lips before she covers it up with her coffee, sipping on it as she keeps her eyes focused on the man. she hums, leaning against the wall. she wasn’t expecting them to continue their conversation but truth be told is that she had missed him. though she wouldn’t admit that to his face. not yet, at least. she was stubborn like that. “i’ve been good, yeah. busy with the store but business has calmed down enough so that i can breathe a little after the holidays.” ava shrugs. “what about you? what have you been up to?”

          cyrus had called in sick at work because, yeah, that’s exactly how he felt. it’s confusing to him how things were so fine when he woke up, started getting ready, put on his makeup and then, he simply didn’t feel as if he could do anything. his bed felt safer and so, he decided he’d stay in. he hadn’t even eaten anything as the thought alone of having to make food for himself made him feel worse. the sound of ava’s voice inside his trailer doesn’t scare him since he had used all the energy he had left in himself to text her, figuring she’d make her way inside without his help. he’d been right. “i’m fine.” cyrus lies and he doesn’t even know why he does as ava had been one of the few people that had seen him in such state. “tired. sleepy. a little… gloomy.” he doesn’t know if what he feels can be described as sad or depressed, which isn’t a term he thinks is fitting. he doesn’t think he is depressed. or perhaps he had just gaslight himself into thinking that. “that’s all… but can you, hm, please feed poppy for me?”

she didn’t have any siblings, it had always been just ava and her two hippie parents, and as much as she didn’t have any complaints about growing up as an only child, there was too much love stored in her heart and rarely anyone else to pour that on. and so she had been quick to take cyrus under her wing, ever the caring person, she noticed almost instantly that he could use someone to look out for him and she’d taken it upon herself to be that person for him from the moment they had met. “ay, chiquito, of course i can feed her for you... but have you eaten anything at all today?” ava doesn’t question him about lying to her, since cyrus knows she can see right through that, and instead tries to focus on something else. “do you want me to make something for you? you can just lie there and rest up.”

“There’s nothing wrong with it.” Jay repeated the words. “I have a feeling that’s the kind of lie someone tells themselves so they feel better,” he added, knowing it was definitely something he’d done from time to time. She was right about having company, though, he always did appreciate that. With a slight shake of his head, he took another long drink from his glass, coming to the last dregs there. “Apparently that was the plan,” he answered her, knowing how bad that did sound today. “So I really am pleased you came along. What’s been going on with you lately? Catch me up?”

“YOU TRYIN’ TO TELL ME that’s what i am doing right now?” features change into a scowl for a moment but ava’s quick to break, a chuckle leaving her lips with a shake of her head. “well, shit, you’d be absolutely right and i can’t even fucking lie about it.” it was a rather sad thing to admit but, yeah, ava never claimed her personal life to be well put together. she could pretend that things were fine, after all she ran a rather successful business mostly on her own, but not everyone could have it all. a generous sip from her glass is taken as she nods to his questions. “not much, unfortunately. life’s been painfully boring on my end. i don’t know if i like it or hate it.” ava scrunches up her nose. “what about you? please, do tell me things have been better for you.”

“when did you get this?!” the words sounded in a gasp as bellamy extracted a copy of the labyrinth soundtrack on vinyl. her obsession with david bowie knew no bounds, and she knew she had the movie to thank for it, the excitement for the find all over her face. her eyes found ava without hesitation, a childlike smile on her face. she wasn’t a stranger to the record store, her weekly visits sometimes turning into daily visits; bellamy never left the store empty-handed either, so building a rapport with the owner was fairly easy. “not that you owe it to me to inform me of new inventory, but i feel like i just struck gold.” in reality, the soundtrack was probably fairly easy to track down on vinyl, it’s rerelease happening within the last few years, but she’d still had a hard time getting her hands on it. “you gonna judge me if i buy this?”

A SMALL SMILE APPEARS ON ava’s lips, momentarily looking up from the magazine she’d been perusing through to glance in bellamy’s direction at the excitement she’s exuding in the moment. she had been the owner of the store for a few years now so she’d definitely grown familiar with some of the people that saw feel good records as a private little safe haven, which she was more than happy for. she liked to think the store was welcoming to everyone, no matter what kind of weird music genre they were into. “oh, got here a couple of days ago. it isn’t in high demand so i doubted anyone would be much interested but i was clearly wrong.” she sets her magazine aside, leaning onto the counter while keeping her eyes on bellamy. “absolutely not, honey. go for it. we all love ourselves a little bowie, don’t we?”

“who needs this much variety with flowers?” the man muttered, rubbing his jaw and staring at the bright display of buckets filled with a multi-coloured display of fresh flowers — a gorgeous sight to behold for those just observing, but perhaps a little overwhelming for a particular vet looking to pick up something basic for their assistant. it was their birthday, and while he wasn’t expected to get them anything, ernie had seen the florist and decided that he may as well commit an act of kindness. now, however, as he reached out to brush his fingertips over a pale pink petal, he was regretting his impulse decision. “uh, excuse me-” he said — an attempt to catch the attention of a figure nearby, “you wouldn’t happen to know what’s what in the world of flowers, do you? any of these particularly popular right now? you’ve got to help me” he practically begged, holding his hands together in a prayer pose, then pointing them towards the display with a lopsided smile, “i’d rather not accidentally buy a head of lettuce instead of flowers, you know.”

NOW, SHE DEFINITELY WAS NO expert when it came to flowers or even decorations, going by what looked nice, and the flowers certainly brought some life into her home and the store. she had already refreshed the ones in her home but thought it was time to do the same to the arrangements she’d managed to put together at feel good records, the petals already falling to the floor and making a mess out of the place. ava already has a bouquet in hands when she’s hears someone, assuming she’s the one being spoken to. “lettuce? do you think... they would sell lettuce in a flower shop?” she can’t help but to chuckle lightly, shaking her head. “um, i can help you out but just a disclaimer that i don’t know much about flowers and their meanings. i usually just pick out what looks good, ya know?” she shows off the ones in her hand. “what’s the occasion, though? why do you need flowers?”

“It’s a win, win.” Not exactly, seeing as she’d been abandoned there, but at least they now both found themselves with company. Jay knew how ridiculous it was to be sitting in a bar alone, after all, so this certainly worked in his favour. “Uneventful. Much to my dismay.” He shook his head, a laugh escaping. “Least you’re saving me from the shame of sitting here getting drunk alone,” he said, flashing her a smile.

AVA CERTAINLY KNEW A THING or two about sitting somewhere, getting drunk all by herself, so she was also very thankful for the company. “let’s be honest here -- we’re savin’ each other. there’s nothing wrong with bein’ by yourself at the bar but... it is always better when you have company.” she chuckles as she downs the rest of her glass, pouring herself some more. she could already feel the effects of the alcohol in her system, cheeks starting to heat up slightly. “so, what has brought you out today? or were the plans just to sit by yourself at the bar all night?”

“yeah, hey. you know, the usual casual greeting between people who know each other.” tomas is pretty sure that this is why they never work, no matter how many times they end up trying - she reveals some snark, and he can’t help to return it, even if he does like the attitude. he slides the card back into his wallet before crossing his arms over his chest, his head cocking to the side just a touch. his lips press together just a touch before he’s giving a one-shouldered shrug. “i’ve got a coffee machine at home for that. i just had to run to tractor supply, restock a few things for the animals. figured i’d stop in for a treat.” that’s who he’d always been - the old fashioned type who made his coffee at home, though that was mostly just because he lived a bit too far and had too much work to do to justify coming into town to get coffee every morning, but he did like getting a treat every once in a while for himself when he came into town. something he couldn’t quite make at home. “and i saw you when i was headin’ by. figured i’d come say hi.” see if things between them had calmed since the last time he’d seen her, at least, see if there was less anger there.

THAT’S WHAT AVA DIDN’T LIKE about their relationship -- if that’s even what you could call their constant back and forth. how they would break up, ignore each other for weeks until one of them decided they wanted to see if things were cool again, showing up out of the blue as if nothing had happened previously. sure, she’d been in his place before, but she couldn’t say that wasn’t annoying to her, despite knowing she’d always fall back onto that bad habit. it was a problem, really. “nah, just thought it was funny how i haven’t heard from you in weeks and it’s hey now. simple as that?” a pout forms on her lips as she shrugs, stepping aside to wait for her coffee. nodding her head at his explanation, ava hums. “ah, i see.” she had a coffee machine at home but it was rarely ever used as she preferred things on the go, to grab a coffee and drink it as she walked towards the store, to be able to do multiple things at once. “well, i appreciate the free coffee.” she says as she reaches for it, taking a sip before a small smile appears on the corner of her lips. “and you havin’ the decency to not ignore me when you saw me. that was nice of you.”
