Extra Curricular Activities at SSM College of Arts and Science

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The College's National Service Scheme has two entities: Mr. V T. GANGATHARAN, Assistant Professor of Fashion and Textile Design, and Mr.Shiva, an assistant teacher in the yoga department, are the program leaders. Every year 250 N. volunteers enroll in the NSS units. NSS units have conducted awareness programs on special camps, child health care, family welfare, health and hygiene. , pollution problems. NSS students have rendered meritorious service by adopting backwater villages, adult literacy classes, eye camps, vet camps, blood donation programs, Clean Up Campus, anti-plastic campaigns, etc. Cultural activities were organized for the rural population of Namakkal district. Mr. Aravind, from the University's B.Sc Computer Science, received the 2011 NSS Best Student Award12 for his service and excellence. The award ceremony took place in New Delhi and President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award.

Youth Red Cross

The Junior Red Cross, an organ of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), was founded in 2006. The main goals of the YRC include health service, international friendship and public relations. The Youth Red Cross Unit with 105 members and the commitment of the coordinator Mr. Ragupathi, Asst.Prof in Computer Science, works effectively. Members provide human services in various awareness campaigns, rallies and blood donation camps. Members of the Youth Red Cross regularly donate blood for emergency operations on seriously ill patients.

Sports

SSMCAS has well-resourced sports teams. Students have access to all indoor and outdoor games. The university has a large playing field for all outdoor games. The university ranks at the top in games like KhoKho and Kabaddi. The athletic department plays an important role in developing overall fitness through play and sport. Students are encouraged to participate in all sports and play activities at various levels, namely national level tournaments, intercollegiate tournaments, district and state level tournaments hosted by recognized institutions. Consumer Club

SSMCAS Consumers Club is a club affiliated with the Ministry of Civilian Utilities and Consumer Protection of the Government of Tamil Nadu established in the academic year 2008-2009. The club has developed its own goals by aligning itself with the achievement of the department's common goal. Civil Services and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu. There are 150 enrolled students and the coordinator of this club is Mr. Tamizharasan, M.Sc., M.Phil., Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Computer Science and has organized various awareness program activities.

MCKVIE Rotaract Club

The MCKVIE ROTARACT Club was born in 2010. Our MCKV Group President Rtn. Kishan Kumar Kejriwal and Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kr. Jalan (Dean of Student Affairs) had the brilliant idea to start the Rotaract Club of MCKVIE. Our club was formed with the perspective of serving humanity as well as the professional development of  member students. The specialty of our club is that it is the club with the largest membership in RID3291, it has about 370 potential members and 25 board members. As a college  club, our club  consists primarily of students in the 1824 age group, which is  another specialty of our club, meaning it has the youngest of any Rotaractor in the district.Despite the youngest members, it is very organized. In the last few years of Rota, our club has reached new heights of achievement. From building new foundations of relationships with the underprivileged to setting several new records, our club has excelled in everything that has happened in  Rota in recent years.

Technotica

Technotica is the in-house technology and engineering  model development competition established in 2004. Students from all MCKVIE departments  can present their models as teams in this competition. Students from different departments can also join forces here. The main objectives of this competition aimed to advance students' practices  beyond the curriculum in terms of: 

cross-domain and cross-domain familiarity and skills improvement

learn how to develop a report/project document

how to understand and learn operations by studying  a device manual

how to code a software module to match a piece of hardware (controller) to make it work

the zeal and enthusiasm  young people to encourage their creative minds learn to work  as a member of a team

However, this involvement ultimately helps  students in the job interviews they face during third-year campus tours, where they can present this as a real-world project experience. In the first stage, in the Technotica ad, students must form a team and then  submit a summary as an outline of their project plan. 

They then have to present it orally via PowerPoint presentation to the teachers where the first level selection will be made. On day of the competition, each selected team will present their respective models assigned to their tables in the competition area. They answer visitors' questions by explaining their models.A panel of external judges, invited from outside the institute, visits each model and judges them on their merits, awarding points and finally announcing the result of their competition. 

In addition to the first, second and third prizes, two other models/teams received the  special prizes in the competition. As a follow-up to this competition, award winners are encouraged to participate in competitions organized outside the university at BITM Kolkata, Science City, as well as various district-level science competitions. And we are honored to mention that our students have almost regularly won awards in such competitions outside of the university!

Swami Vivekananda Center for Positive Thinking (SVCPT)

Swami Vivekananda Center for Positive Thinking, the first center in West Bengal, an initiative of MCKVIE faculty, staff  and students with  active council of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University Belur Math, is dedicated to guiding students, faculty and university staff members through the Teachings, Life-giving Thoughts and Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda. The seed sown and watered with the selfless efforts of many students and faculty transformed the sacred name of Swami Vivekananda into a formal form  of Bhaveshananda on  January 10, 2011 with the inaugural address of Swami Atmapriyananda, Vice-Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission University Vivekananda  and Swami.
