Elijah intertwined her fingers with Ava’s. It wasn’t a romantic gesture, but it was intimate. She was HAPPY, overwhelmed and overly excited to see she had come back. Ava Delgado, former huntress extraordinaire, now a vampire. But that didn’t bother her. Not ONE BIT. Because she knew how it felt. To suddenly have her world shift around her. “Did they hurt you ?? Afterwards, when they turned you. I swear, I’ll find out who did this to you and I’ll tear them apart.” She promised her. “Well… I got bit, by an Alpha. My brother and I were. I lost my magic, along with my parents. They tried to kick me out, but Finn came… We ended up kicking them up. I killed the Alpha accidentally and took over his pack. Oh, funny story - I also ended up being the LEADER for the werewolf faction.”

Smirking at the defensive tone of Elijah’s words, Ava listened to her story. They were both taken from the life they knew. Finn seemed to have accepted Elijah, of course Ava wouldn’t expect anything different. But now she wondered if her own sibling would do the same. “Don’t worry, they didn’t do anything that I couldn’t heal from.” In reality, she knew those vampires just wanted to toy with hunters, they hoped she could go to her brother and kill him. That’s why she had to leave, they knew just as she did that she couldn’t get control yet. “You’re the Alpha now? I can’t say I’m surprised. You’ve always been strong, Elijah. I’ve always seen it. I always knew you could be a leader. I’m so proud of you.”

Elijah had thought Ava to be long gone. Dead. Xander had come home from a hunt one night, in tears. Well, what used to be tears. His eyes had been empty and cold and it had taken Finn a long time to heal him. But Elijah had never been the same without Ava. The girl she told everything to, more then Finn. Her confident. Her soulmate. As they parted, the red head kept her hand on her arm, afraid that if she let go, it’d be the end of that. “I thought you were dead. Xander told us you were KILLED. - We have a lot to catch up on.” Her hand reached her cheek, caressing softly as tears spilled from her eyes.

Ava reached out to take Elijah’s hand in her own. Suddenly she couldn’t remember why she ever thought staying away would be easier. “I guess I sort of was, in a way,” she sighed. She wanted to hear every minute of Elijah’s life that she missed, even the fact that she and Finn were throwing this party without their parents showed how much things had changed. “The hunt went wrong, I got turned. It’s a long story, but I didn’t trust myself not to hurt anyone. Until now. I’ve missed you too much to stay away. But I’m a lot more interested in you, what happened while I was gone?” She tried to avoid the fact that she abandoned her friends and family here, if only to save her from thinking of the guilt.

Elijah’s heart nearly stopped when the mask was unveiled, the very familiar face of the girl causing an ache in her heart. She stayed frozen for what seemed like an eternity, her eyes locked onto hers. She took a step close, her arms enveloping the women. A VAMPIRE. Butt she wasn’t just a vampire. She was her childhood friend. “Ava…”

Ava couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. Her arms tightened around Elijah, and in that moment there were no species, it was just the two friends being reunited. After a moment, she slowly let go, laughing as she blinked back the threat of tears. “It’s been so long, I’m so sorry. Obviously we’ve both changed since then.”

Ignoring the obvious innuendo basically handed right to him, Rhys shook his head. “Never really been a fan of anything that warrants crowds. They’re hard for me to navigate.”

“Oh? Why’s that?” Ava tilted her head, eyeing him with more curiosity. She was sure she had known him, but a name escaped her.

the blonde had a VERY familiar smell that lingered on her. however, it was swept away by the smell of the dead, which repulsed the wolf. she made a mental note to ask finn to cast a spell so the scent would air out. ‘ i can say we do. ’ she smiled, canines slightly visible. downside of being a wolf ?? your canines got a little longer. ‘ sorry, i get excited and forget to introduce myself. ELIJAH MONTECARLO. ’

Eyes widening a bit, Ava tried to return her expression to a more neutral state. So, Elijah was a wolf now. She knew how the girl had loved her magic, she couldn’t imagine how hard it must be to change in that way. It was so much more than going from a hunter to a vampire. She thought this small piece of common ground might help them, so with that introduction, Ava took a deep breath and went for it. “I’m...Ava. Delgado. It’s been a while, Elijah,” she added while untying the ribbon of her mask.

Rhys blinked at the familiar voice, but couldn’t quite place it. The whole mask thing also ruled out looking over to see who she was. “Yeah, it’s, uh, it’s something.” He nodded in agreement, still trying to figure out where he’d heard her voice before. Couldn’t possibly be someone he knew too well, but he’d definitely heard it enough times to remember it from somewhere.

“You don’t sound so sure about that,” she laughed. Ava knew this boy was someone she’d known before, but he wasn’t her brother, so she didn’t worry or think too hard on it. “Are you not a fan of balls?”

          “REALLY NOW,” Visenya raised her eyebrows, surprised by the lack of information from her part regarding the hosts of the ball that she was attending. It wasn’t like her to be unprepared for…well, anything. Better letter than ever though, right? The brunette eyed the other woman—a vampire, she figured from the lack of a pulse sound—and she plastered a polite grin on her lips. “In a way, yes. I was born here, but you could say it’s been centuries since the last time I’ve been around.” She shot her a meaningful look, and then asked “You?”

“That would explain why you don’t know your hosts,” she realized. She knew she was speaking to a much older vampire, and her hunter’s brain was absorbed with ways of fighting such a strong opponent. But she remembered they were both the same, and Ava had no reason to fight her. Looking down, she shrugged slightly. “I was born here too, but I only left a year ago. What brought you back here?”

She doesn’t say much more, just watches the grounds with a keen eye and her senses very alert. While the parties on her grounds usually went smoothly, this would be the first once the children were in charge of and not just helping with. It brought a certain nerve wrecking air to the place. Is that what her parents felt constantly, being the ones who threw these all the time? “I think you are the only hunter I’ve met who became something else and still confessed to being a hunter. I would be careful who you tell that to, not all of us tend to trust hunters.” She turns her head just slightly more to give the warning. Finn herself only trusted one hunter personally- while the number used to be two it had halved at the death of one of them. 

Turning to look at Finn, Ava felt a pang of guilt in her heart. She used to be a hunter Finn trusted, now what was she? Could she claim anything if she didn’t feel fully hunter or fully vampire? Still watching the redhead, she cleared her throat. “I haven’t been a vampire very long, the hunter side is still pretty prominent in my mind.” Ava couldn’t stand the way the other woman thought she was just a stranger, it felt so wrong. “Finn, I need to be honest with you,” she spoke slowly, taking a deep breath before reaching up to untie the ribbon of her mask. She looked down, her hair covering some of her face for a moment, but she looked up almost immediately. Her eyes searched the other’s, trying to see if Finn would think less of her. For what she was or how she disappeared, really she had no idea what reaction she would get, so she simply stood and stared, not losing eye contact.

Dallas looked over, slightly startled by the voice. The noise around him had settled into a murmur he was able to tune out, standing off by himself and just…watching. And yet somehow he’d missed her. “Uh, yeah.” He said, in some type of weak agreement, even if truthfully that name only sounded vaguely familiar. “This is, uh, definitely something.”

“You don’t seem so sure,” Ava remarked. She stepped closer to stand next to him, watching the crowd of beautiful clothes and masks. “Is this your first time at the annual ball?”

          AT THE SOUND of a voice, Visenya turned and saw a masked woman that she didn’t recognize, smiling up at her. The brunette flashed her a grin of her own and nodded whilst letting her light blue eyes wander around briefly. “Absolutely. What a lovely setting. It is a pity I cannot recognize any of them if they were here among us, to congratulate them at their work,” she said with a disappointed sigh, half-joking. In reality, while she did want to talk to them, the decoration wasn’t her main subject for discussion. But she wasn’t going to let a stranger know that.

Ava chuckled, at least this was something she could help with. “Oh you can’t miss them, they both have vibrant red hair.” She could tell she was speaking to a vampire, even though that ability was still pretty new to her. “Are you from this city?” she wondered, mostly because she didn’t think she recognized the woman from before she left town a year ago.

Finn waved her hand at the girl as if to dismiss the mistake. “A returning face, then. Well welcome back home, just in time for the annual ball.” She still stood turned out toward the crowd and only glanced at her from the corner of her eye. The aura from the girl, it screamed at Finn ‘vampire’ and she nodded her head toward the house. “Bar inside is stocked for your needs. I trust you not to snack on the guests. And anyone that starts fighting, they will deal with me. They all might be old, but they’re not dumb to pick a fight with me.” Egotistical, for sure. But partly true. While she’s only mortal, being coven leader grants her higher power and stronger magic, something no one around took lightly. She nods again. “Oui, it seems everyone showed up and dressed to impress.”

For a moment, she almost forgot what she was now, but Finn’s words brought her back to reality. If she was going to stay here like she planned, Ava would have to fess up eventually. A small smirk grew on her lips as the other kept talking though, Finn was always the most confident one in the room. It was nice to see that hadn’t changed. “Don’t worry, I made sure I had control of myself before I came here. If I didn’t, I would have stayed away. I...used to be a hunter, this was always a possible risk to the job.” The words were out before she could stop them. Finn already knew she was from the city, and Ava really wasn’t sure how many more hunting families could have moved to town since she left. Ava turned away to look at the room full of guests, her dyed blonde hair covering most of her face now.

No, Finn. Be nice to the ignorant ones. A soft sigh and she shakes her head, looking down at the tattooed skin on display with the dress and then back at the other. One eyebrow raised in a silent sass before actually speaking to her. “The last time I was confused for Elijah was before we were eighteen.” Four years and a lot of tattoos later, it’s pretty easy to tell them apart in daily wear.

Of course this was Finn. Ava was annoyed with herself for not looking away from the girl’s face to check for the tattoos. And of course the first person she spoke to when she got back was the one she so often called her sister. “Sorry, it’s been a long trip here,” her voice faltered. Why was she so nervous? She was a killer long before she was a vampire, but none of the scenarios she built in her head on the way back home prepared her for this. “It looks like all the species are here tonight,” she tried to change the topic. “You must really trust them not to start fighting.”

The sound of a voice makes her turn but the mention of her name makes her laugh. “They surely do,” Finn remarks without an upward glance at the female. Green eyes roam around the grounds and she idly adjusts the bodice of her dress before finally looking at the woman. Hidden behind the mask, Finn isn’t sure who she is. “Quite the dress you have on.” It’s as close to a compliment she feels like giving in the moment.

It took a moment, but at the sight of that signature long red hair, Ava realized she was talking to one of the twins. Which one, she couldn’t be sure because of the mask. Luckily, she didn’t seem to recognize her either, Ava wasn’t sure she was ready for that just yet. “Thank you, but yours is phenomenal. You’ll have to help me out though, are you Finn or Elijah? Your hair makes it hard to hide that you’re one of the two.”

An excited smile plastered on her face, Ava walked in wearing a glittering beige gown and a lace eye mask to match. Seeing her home town again was something she didn’t think would be possible for a long time, but now the vampire was back and looking forward to seeing familiar faces. She walked up to the first masked person she saw, still smiling. “The Montecarlos sure know how to plan a ball, don’t they?”
