“HOME SWEET HOME,” Visenya murmured after taking off her helmet and stepping down from her motorcycle. She flipped her hair, enough for it to look as good as ever, placed the helmet on her seat and took the key. Footsteps on the pavement let her know that someone was about to walk past her. She waited to hear the heartbeat pump in their veins to know they were close enough, to ask “Excuse me. Hey. Do you happen to know if any new apartments get built up around here?” She turned around right after asking the question to face them whilst plastering a grin on her lips.
At the sound of a voice, Victor immediately turned around to be met with a pretty brunette. When he realized that she had heard his conversation, he let out and awkward laugh. “He won’t acknowledge that I’m a grown up until I’m forty.”
THE CORNER of her ruby-painted lips twitched in a nostalgic half smile. “I thought only parents were living in the ‘my-child-is-always-a-baby’ illusion. But then again, I’ve never had a brother or sister, so I wouldn’t know.”
“Why is everyone in such a huff over these deaths, they weren’t any of us so I’d count your blessings.” Anastasia smirked as she waggled her brows. “Luckily the idiots have found someone to blame, up for a little witch hunt?”
THE VAMPIRE couldn’t hide her displeasure for seeing the other, if she tried. “Because ‘everyone’ knows that this has to be only the beginning. It could be one of us next,” Visenya stated. “Not in this century, Anastasia.” Did she, for some reason, think that she would’ve changed her ways since the last time they met?
“Making women blush is what I’m good at,” William replied in his own sarcastic tone. He dealt with beautiful women on a daily basis but it was hard to keep up his usual playful facade with this one in particular. She’d seen him through basically everything. She’d seen him in his awkward phase and his angry phase. She’d been there for him when his mother and sister were murdered and she’d seen how he was after he killed his father. There was literally no one in the world who knew him any better than Visenya and that thought terrified him. He couldn’t be playful around her, he had to keep his guard up. He didn’t know when or if she’d ever strike. If she did, she would be his greatest challenge and that wasn’t something that he really wanted to deal with. As they walked down the hall, William flinched when he heard her call him ‘Will.’ It was such a simple nickname. Pretty much everyone called him that and yet, here he was, shaken. He remembered pushing her on a swing at ten years old while she called for him to push her higher. There were too many memories that came with that name being uttered by her voice so he just shook his head and gave her a weaker version of his charm infused smile, a smile he’d spent centuries crafting. “What’ll it take then?” He asked. He was genuinely curious but at the same time, he could do without this conversation at all.
VISENYA ROLLED her eyes, but left his response unanswered. The years that they’d been in each other’s lives were clogged with either childhood innocence, or life-or-death incidents. His love life wasn’t something she was ever informed about; with one exception. Pushing aside that thought, the brunette reached for the nearest tray and took two glasses of champagne. Instead of giving Will one of them, though, she chugged the one until it was empty, and then took a sip of the other. With enough effort, even vampires could get drunk and Visenya certainly needed to be slightly tipsy in order to get through this evening. Careless of her, she knew; but when Will asked what it was going to take for her to forgive him, having a Bravery Drink was all she could focus on. At last, she turned to him and spent a good amount of time examining his facial features. Such a familiar face...and yet, such a plastered, fake smile he was giving her. “You don’t want to know; not really,” she stated simply, doing her best to contain the sorrow and disappointment on her own face. “It’s easier for you this way...keeping me at arm’s length. Easier, and much less scary.”
She kept saying “I don’t care about it, I don’t care anymore.” But for the life of me I couldn’t figure out whether that meant she really didn’t care or that she cared too much.

But, but. Sometimes you still wonder how it would have felt to hold his hand, to trace the curve of his spine. Sometimes you still hold his secrets in the gaps between your lower ribs, like tiny stars waiting to erupt. On nights like these you find yourself missing something you never even had. “We could have loved each other,” you say into the emptiness. “It doesn’t matter anymore,” the emptiness replies. “Why torture yourself this way?

Ava chuckled, at least this was something she could help with. “Oh you can’t miss them, they both have vibrant red hair.” She could tell she was speaking to a vampire, even though that ability was still pretty new to her. “Are you from this city?” she wondered, mostly because she didn’t think she recognized the woman from before she left town a year ago.
“REALLY NOW,” Visenya raised her eyebrows, surprised by the lack of information from her part regarding the hosts of the ball that she was attending. It wasn’t like her to be unprepared for...well, anything. Better letter than ever though, right? The brunette eyed the other woman---a vampire, she figured from the lack of a pulse sound---and she plastered a polite grin on her lips. “In a way, yes. I was born here, but you could say it’s been centuries since the last time I’ve been around.” She shot her a meaningful look, and then asked “You?”
“Goodbye, William." @carnxvore
He’d almost missed the slight hint of hesitation she displayed when he his arm out for her. Almost being the key word. He couldn’t believe that she still didn’t trust him. This is exactly why he wanted to stay away from her over the years. He’d shown a vulnerable side to her and now she was doubting his intentions. “Perfection huh?” He took a chance to look her up and down. Honestly, she looked gorgeous but there was no way he was telling her that. “You look alright,” he offered with a shrug before leading her through the front door. Once they were inside and he caught her comment, he gave her the most unimpressed face he could muster. “You’re still mad about that? That was years ago. Let it go.”
VISENYA SHOT HIM a knowing look. “Alright? Now now, don’t make me blush,” she replied sarcastically. They’d known each other forever, and the last time she’d ever heard him calling her beautiful was when they were kids. She truly wasn’t expecting any compliments, though. It was ironic, but, him keeping nice things to himself was one of the things that made her feel a little more familiar beside him. That, and what had gone down between them the previous day. It’d made her drop her guard momentarily, just enough to give him one more chance to prove himself. Was she naive, for doing that? Tonight was when she would probably find out. Once they walked inside, the brunette flashed smiles to the guests who were greeting her as she walked by, so her eyes weren’t on him when he responded. Her answer came instantly. “It’ll take a lot more than an unimpressed look of yours to make me let go of that, Will.” Her voice was softer as she looked up to meet his gaze right after calling him ‘Will’. She’d always hated using his full name. Visenya wanted him to see, to understand. Understand, that she was there, but getting back on her good side wasn’t going to be easy. She had given him too many chances in the past, only for him to blow them off or ruin them every single time.
- “ you k n o w, i would ask you to dance but finn made me p r o m i s e not to. she just doesn’t want me to embarrass her, i swear. “ gage grinned, eyes shining as he addressed the guest. his posture was relaxed, expression calm despite knowing quite well that most of the people in the room could kill him before he could say hello. though, then again, he did tend to ramble on even with his greetings.
VISENYA SIGHED for the tenth time. While she was relieved that her date wasn’t around her 24/7, it frustrated how often he vanished, here and then. So, when the stranger asked her to dance, she shrugged her shoulders slightly and tilted her head on the side, eyeing his posture. “I feel like this is the part where I say yes or no, except... I didn’t actually hear an invitation.”
An excited smile plastered on her face, Ava walked in wearing a glittering beige gown and a lace eye mask to match. Seeing her home town again was something she didn’t think would be possible for a long time, but now the vampire was back and looking forward to seeing familiar faces. She walked up to the first masked person she saw, still smiling. “The Montecarlos sure know how to plan a ball, don’t they?”
AT THE SOUND of a voice, Visenya turned and saw a masked woman that she didn’t recognize, smiling up at her. The brunette flashed her a grin of her own and nodded whilst letting her light blue eyes wander around briefly. “Absolutely. What a lovely setting. It is a pity I cannot recognize any of them if they were here among us, to congratulate them at their work,” she said with a disappointed sigh, half-joking. In reality, while she did want to talk to them, the decoration wasn’t her main subject for discussion. But she wasn’t going to let a stranger know that.
‘ such an EXQUISITE night. ’ the vampire brought the flute to her lips, the warm liquid running down her throat. the burning subsided rather quickly, however, she hadn’t felt it. ‘ i wonder where they have stashed meals for the undead. or am i simply meant to take the lack of as an invitation to feed on the guests ?? ’
VISENYA TURNED her glance away from the open hall in front of her, where several pairings were dancing, to match a face with the voice that she had just heard. If her words hadn’t given away her undead nature, the starving, predatory glint in her eyes would’ve done as much. “Maybe, or maybe not,” she replied whilst turning her head back to the crowd. “The question is, with all of the werewolves and witches around...How much do you want to risk it?” She needed to find a way to maintain the loveliness of the night without giving away her stance against killing humans. Perhaps common logic would do the trick.
William had just checked his watch for the millionth time as he waited for his date to arrive. She was late. He had actually asked her in a moment of weakness and now she was late. This certainly proved that asking people and hoping they complied was the wrong move. When he caught the sight of familiar light blue eyes, he didn’t know whether to be relieved or agitated that she made him wait. “You know dearest Visneya, it’s impolite to make your date wait.” His voice was laced with sarcasm as he held his arm out for her to take.
A SMIRK THREATENED to take over her full, crimson painted lips, but the brunette managed to hold it back and keep a straight face instead. Her gaze dropped to the arm he’d held out for her, hesitating for a moment before wrapping her own around it. She was hoping that his eye would’ve missed the small delay. “Patience is among the fairest virtues, William. You cannot expect a woman to achieve perfection and not take her time to make it happen,” she argued lightly as both of them turned to walk through the front door. She had blended in with the modern times just fine, but something about this ball called for her to remember the old times, the times she came from. “Besides,” she added lastly, quietly enough only for him to hear “I think the lines of what is impolite and what isn’t, have blurred with us for a while now.”
&& WILLIAM.
VISENYA’S EVERY STEP was calculated, comfortable and classy. If living for five centuries had taught her anything, that was how to walk in heels with as much as zero effort. Soon enough, the Montecarlo Estate was spreading before her eyes in its enormous glory. By the time she arrived, the front porch was already flooded with guests dressed to kill, like the invitation suggested. Her light blue eyes, comfortable in the dim moonlight, scanned the place and soon enough found her “date,” William. Was she relieved or disappointed that he was there? Deciding proved to be tricky. She had been late on purpose, too, knowing that he was bound to wait for her in the front entrance, since the invitation was clear: a date is required for those invited.
