The White Wolf🖤
Yennefer of Vengerberg by Vanette Kosman
Don't worry, this is only moments before Geralt busts in to kick some ass! And then he nurses Jaskier back to health and everything is fine and nothing hurts 🥲
Flufftober 2022: Day 12
@flufftober Day 12: “You Kept This?”
(Witcher // Geralt/Jaskier // Rating: T)
After their fight – after he screams at Jaskier, the sentiment even worse than the words themselves – Geralt sulks and fumes on the top of the mountain for a few hours. Then he starts making his way down, but slowly, killing more time by looking out for anything else that needs killing to make it safer for whichever unlucky souls are the next to take this path.
By the time he makes it back to where Roach is waiting for him, Jaskier has had more than enough time to get away from the area entirely… but he hasn’t. The scent of him and the familiar sound of his heartbeat (and quiet, intermittent humming) are as clear as day, coming from inside the inn where all this started.
Jaskier must have known that Geralt would be able to tell he’s there immediately. He’s not waiting for him, exactly – he’s not going to demand an apology, or make sure he gets the chance to tell him what a total fucking bastard he is before he goes on his way; instead, he’s giving Geralt the choice of whether to come to him or not.
Geralt had no intention of staying here tonight, or stopping at all until he was at least fifty miles from the accursed place, but this has the feeling of a last chance being offered, and he’s not going to turn it down just so he can gather more regret.

ok I knew Jaskier was a master of the seven liberal arts but I had no idea what they actually were until I looked them up and wouldn’t u know it, astronomy is one of them, which encompasses navigation, mathematics and actual physics. Now I’m laughing at this thought:
Some mage who Geralt got hired to kill a monster or smth for idk: damn this equation I’m doing for a spell isn’t working
Jaskier, a bard who the mage saw being yelled at by Geralt earlier because he tried to fuck the Lord’s son and nearly succeeded: that’s because you’re doing it wrong lol
Mage: you are literally a bard wdym
Jaskier, a bard who has the equivalent of a physics masters degree: yeah and
Jaskier has the time period equivalent of education as the band Queen. If not more so.
Hey y’all so what’s included in Seven Liberal Arts has changed a lot over time but usually are something like the four “scientific” arts- music, arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy- plus the three humanities- grammar, logic, and rhetoric. It’s based on creating a base of knowledge and critical thinking allowing you to then expand in the directions you prefer (i.e. music for Jaskier)
Alchemy/chemistry, biology, religion, history, philosophy, fine arts, geography, anthropology, linguistics and many other fields have been swapped in/out (or!!!!! the field didn’t exist as a separate thing yet so it was just included in another one)
HOWEVER
this means feasibly Jaskier can do such things as
argue as a lawyer and draft estates/wills
use the stars for navigation
teach as many kinds of professor
basics of architecture and/or helping a carpenter/smith interpret plans for a building or two (… or ultra rare sword)
brewing potions or alcohol
take a posting as a castellan/scribe/clerk
be a bard specializing in historical epics or know a shit ton about historical landmarks
be a traveling priest/monk/mystic/cleric [remember folx- we don’t have Christianity in the Witcher world and many religions have religious authorities/figures that are allowed to live among the public and fuck if they want]
create detailed illustrations of people, animals/monsters, plants, etc and talk about taxonomy and ecology
also practice limited medicine- mixed results. For sure have some abilities to make common recipes of medicine and identify symptoms- I think if you wanted to be any better than that you had to study under a Barber-Surgeon Guild
Yeah. He has the education equivalent of the band Queen
Cavill is not a martyr
I have been seeing so many posts and comments along the lines of “Henry Cavill left the Witcher because they were inaccurate to the books and he had enough of all the changes”
And this thought process, especially if you mention the recent DeMayo writer’s interview, is just a flawed thought process.

I want to reblog this post with two important updates:
Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman
His leave from The Witcher may have been due to his abhorrent misogynistic behavior on set and he likely didn’t choose to leave
On the note of him playing Superman, he posted this to Instagram today:
And then there was a podcast episode of Deux U Podcast released where someone anonymously came forward to say why Henry Cavill really left The Witcher. And it’s not pretty.
You can find a complete transcript here and the original post shoutout to @handwrittenhello for a wonderful transcription.
There’s something I really really wanted to read to you guys–it has to do with why Henry Cavill left The Witcher. I know that was something that you guys were super interested in when it happened, and I just recently got this message. Somebody was like “Hey, do you want to know what really went down?” And I was like “Sure!” So let me just read it. It says: At the beginning of the show, Henry was good to work with. A lot of difficult demands that made people feel like he wasn’t a team player, but that’s not unusual for a really big star. Though in TV it truly usually doesn’t happen until the second season. But in season two and three something shifted and he became really impossible for women to work with, which is always a big problem, but even worse here because the showrunner is a woman. He would try to overrule her and try to get changes made last minute across the board without her knowledge, which, if you know anything about showrunning, is completely fucked. The showrunner has to sign off on every miniscule detail down to the buttons on a costume. Female writers and directors were suddenly being completely ignored on set, unable to do their jobs. Every department head was complaining. He started making comments—it wasn’t a sexual thing, he wasn’t grabbing anyone or being lewd, but it was disrespectful and toxic all the same. He is deeply addicted to video games, to the point where it was like working with any other addict. He was distracted, he was late, he was obsessive, and a lot of people think the misogyny came from the gamer world. Video game bro language is not how you talk to coworkers, and he wouldn’t stop. Someone on the show compared it to watching someone get brainwashed by QAnon, like his whole personality shifted. Eventually, his disrespect escalated. He would rewrite scenes without even alerting the other actors in the scenes until it was time to shoot. He decided that he didn’t want any romantic scenes at all—no kissing scenes, no shirtless scenes, et cetera. He wanted complete control of storylines but really had no idea of the limitations of TV, structure, budget, et cetera. He formed a weird alliance with one writer who was also a gamer, who eventually got fired after multiple HR complaints were made and after that writer left, Henry did anything he could to hold up production and cause problems. Eventually, top brass at Netflix was tired of him costing them money with delays and HR investigations and the showrunner was asked to construct a potential exit for him. Netflix reached out to him personally and he was given one final warning, and violated that warning with an email he sent to the entire writing staff right after that meeting. That was it. It’s very disappointing. So it sounds like, which is kind of shocking, that gaming, video games, was the demise of Henry Cavill, which is wild. So wild I would have never guessed that. Anyway, just wanted to read that for you guys, I know you were super interested about it when it happened, and that’s it.
To summarize this, Cavill basically began being very misogynistic on set and was subsequently fired.
And this behavior is also likely related to why the studio told him to come back and announce his return as Superman only to cancel this return once they started meeting with him.
It’s likely the writer who was mentioned as getting fired for similar harassment is Beau DeMayo who I’ve talked about him here before and why his little interviews of “all the writers hate the books” are bullshit.
But if this report is true (which it makes a lot of sense considering how it also matches what another writer Matt D’Ambrosio has talked about), Henry Cavill trying to sell this narrative of “he left because the show was so inaccurate” is his way of outright dodging his misogynistic and toxic behavior that got him fired.
One thing I’m noticing here is the continued toxicity of racist and misogynistic gamer culture highly impacting the show. It’s important to remember that white supremacists have a very strong foothold in the Witcher 3 fandom having entire forums dedicated to praising how “white” the game is and creating entire petitions about not casting poc. So it’s not a shock to me that spending time in certain gamer spaces would lead to Cavill exhibiting more misogynistic and toxic behavior.
Overall, the takeaway from this for all of us should be that things such as misogyny and racism occur at every level of a franchise’s production and it’s important to hold people accountable and try and be better ourselves.
Don’t fall into the toxic pipeline Cavill himself went down and instead focus on uplifting the women and specifically the women of color related to The Witcher because it seems like they have less support than ever right now.
Brooding no more!!!🍻
is this the time to say that henry cavill’s geralt had the emotional depth of a wet cardboard box?
I got an iPad (finally) and the first thing I drew was two sweethearts :)
missed opportunity to recast Gwendoline Christie as geralt tbh
Ahehehehehe
the real reason netflix had to fuck up eskel so badly is that he would have fixed the mountain riff in 0.5 seconds in true eldest sibling fashion by tossing his little shit of a younger sibling over his shoulder and marching him back down from kaer morhen that autumn to fix things with the bard bc like HELL will he watch geralt keep up his favorite hobby of self-sabotage and make the rest of them ALSO miserable in the process
hhhhh this got much longer than i anticipated 😭 what can i say, i was Inspired
all the patrons in the tavern, including jaskier (though he has no plans to admit it), jump in their seats as the door slams open with enough force to bounce off the opposite wall. jaskier’s music cuts off with a discordant twang as the chatter in the room dies out all at once.
silhouetted in the doorway are two huge figures, and jaskier is slightly ashamed of the way his heart stutters when he recognizes the profile of the man apparently trying to worm his way back out the door despite his companion’s grip on his arm.
his face is shielded half by a curtain of pale hair and half by the shoulder of the man who seems to have dragged him bodily in here, and it’s strange to see him hunched so, as if trying to take up less space, but jaskier would know that jawline anywhere.
he certainly wasn’t expecting him here.
One of my main issues with how Netflix is handling The Witcher is that they keep trying to make Geralt a manly man with no emotions who beats everything up and barely talks and doesn't need anyone, and that's not who he is.
Geralt of Rivia loves philosophy, his best friend is a bard whom he states several times he'd die for. He loves Yennefer and isn't afraid to show it.
He can be a whiny brat. In the books, he's been told off for sulking by damn near everyone.
When it comes to his job he's learned every single detail and will absolutely fire off his lexicon of knowledge if you ask the right questions.
He sees the value in life, and won't kill monsters that have sentience. Even when he does, he knows that the root of the problem is shit like habitat clearing and human hubris.
For someone whose job is monster hunting, he hates getting dirty and will spend ages in the bath scrubbing himself clean.
And every person he's ever met he's won over with his personality alone, to the point where four people who've never met Ciri in their lives joined Geralt's cause to rescue her, to the point where they literally lay down their lives in the pursuit.
I just don't understand why they didn't try to keep his character as close to the source as possible. We have so many iterations of strong manly men with no emotions, we didn't have to change Geralt to be yet another male fantasy.
Modern AU where Jaskier befriends Geralt, still a witcher, and decides to show him every monster movie in existence because he knows it pisses Geralt off to see the inaccuracies.
One day Jaskier demands to know whether Geralt could do better than those movies so he attaches a GoPro to his armour and goes out monster hunting and the footage leaves Jaskier unable to sleep for a month unless Geralt sits in the room with him.
“come ON geralt! this was the most bad-ass movie ive seen in YEARS! he even reminds me of you a bit,”
geralt huffs and shovels another handful of jaskier’s homemade movie popcorn into his mouth. admittedly, that was the only thing putting his arse on the brown, lumpy couch in jaskier’s living room at the start of this nonsense.
“with that kind of technique, that lad would be a fine red paste on the pavement.”
“he does ALL the same flippy things with his sword that you do!” jaskier objected.
“all the same flippy things i do when im showing off for an audience. in a fight, that’ll get you killed.”
“oh, so im an audience worth showing off for?”
geralt pelted jaskier with popcorn, but couldnt confirm nor deny that yes, he’d like to show off for jaskier as much as possible. it made what he was trained to do seem a little less monstrous, to have someone fawn over him like he was some superhero.
“why dont you show me, then?” jaskier challenged. his tone of voice was suggestive, something that would turn geralt’s knees to two scoops of soft serve in the lousiana sun, but his heart seized at the thought of jaskier being in the same zip code as something geralt would be summoned to exterminate.
“too dangerous.” geralt declared through a mouthful of emotional support popcorn.
“what if you filmed it? what if we rigged up a tripod and your phone—“
“im not breaking my phone for this—“
“my phone—“
“real monster fights arent like the movies, jask. we could put a tripod over there and wind up finding the nest three miles south.”
“a body cam! i have an old gopro from when i wanted to be a professional rock climber,”
“you’re terrified of heights, jask,”
“yeah? well, how do you think i found that one out,” jaskier jumped up from the couch to bolt into his office. geralt gnoshed on some more popcorn and took a long drag of his shandy while he heard a number of wildly concerning noises coming from the office until jaskier re-emerged.
“you want me to wear that?”
it was, effectively, a headband with a camera on it.
“its waterproof!” jaskier chirped. “it’s still charged, even,”
geralt finished off the popcorn and sighed, resigned to his fate.
***
“it swallowed you.”
“yep.” geralt adjusted the towel twisted on top of his head and watched jaskier rewind the video on his phone for what had to be the hundredth time.
“it doesnt even look like theres anything in the water! like, id swim there!”
“yep.”
“it’d be my last swim, looks like,” jaskier laughed awkwardly, looking back to geralt with a watery smile. “and you just… let it eat you.”
“fastest way.”
jaskier caught a full body chill and geralt watched every hair raise on the back of his neck.
“so you’re cool to hang out a bit, right?”
geralt didnt have anywhere else to be that evening so he settled in, putting his bog-chilled toes under jaskier’s thighs on the couch.
“want to watch bakeoff?“ jaskier asked.
“what, not another monster flick?”
“i… dont think i could do another,” jaskier admitted, pulling the blanket on his lap that much closer. geralt raised an eyebrow at him but didnt say anything else, getting comfortable while watching folks make a number of different kinds of bread.
jaskier fell asleep on the couch, one hand looped around geralt’s ankle tight.
***
“want to come over?” jaskier’s tinny voice asked through the speakers in geralt’s car.
“i told you i was out on a job,” geralt said, frowning at the road.
“oh, right. sorry, forgot.” jaskier yawned.
geralt was quiet for a moment, listening to papers shuffling and things clattering around in the background of the call.
“what’s going on, jask?” geralt finally asked.
“havent been sleeping right. not while you’re out.”
“a selkiemore cant get you in your bedroom, jaskier,”
“it can bloody well get you,” jaskier replied, heated, and the line went silent for a beat before jaskier sighed. “anything could get you.”
geralt wiped the hand not on the wheel down his face.
“it could,” he wouldnt lie to the man. “but it hasnt yet.”
jaskier was quiet for a while, then.
“just be careful, will you?”
“im always careful.”
“it ate you?”
“im usually careful.”
“last time you came home with a hole in your shoulder and now it aches when it rains.”
“i am vaguely aware of the concept of careful.”
jaskier’s laugh echoed around geralt’s car, making his mouth turn up in a wry smile.
“please, geralt. dont make me come get you.”
“i wont. we’ll watch some bakeoff when i get… home.”
“i’ll see you when you come home,”
“oh, so im an audience worth showing off for?” awwww these two idiots
Lovely writing as always! I love how you characterize them and how they talk to eachther and stuff 🥰
“i am vaguely aware of the concept of careful.”
🤣🤣🤣
Geralt likes his personal space.
Jaskier also likes Geralt's personal space.
And therein lie so many of Geralt's problems.
Problem one:
Jaskier takes every opportunity he can get to drape his arms around Geralt's waist, as if Geralt was one of his lovers. And when Geralt sees him holding someone else, he finds himself wishing he were in their place.
Problem two:
Jaskier likes resting his head on Geralt's shoulder and closing his eyes, as if Geralt was someone Jaskier felt fully safe with.
And when they go their seperated ways for a while, the only weight Geralt has on his shoulders is the weight of his swords.
Problem three:
Jaskier likes taking Geralt's hand and dragging him along to show him something exciting, as if Geralt was someone he wanted to share his life with. And when they walk side by side, Geralt's hands are twitching, as he wishes he could be brave enough to take hold of Jaskier's hand as well.
Problem four:
Jaskier likes falling asleep holding Geralt close, as if Geralt was someone who needed cuddling and protecting. And when Geralt is at Kaer Morhen for the winter, he finds he cant fall sleep without his bard being there anymore.
All in all, Geralt's problem is this:
Jaskier likes being in Geralt's personal space.
Geralt also likes Jaskier being in his personal space.
I just saw a post debating whether in a modern AU, Geralt of Rivia would use swords or a gun to hunt monsters
Excuse me
Modern Geralt of Rivia uses live traps, sedatives, and radio collars
Modern Geralt of Rivia breaks into the veterinary clinic of someone he went to grad school with and falls asleep in the laundry area. The staff find him when they come in in the morning.
When modern Geralt of Rivia’s grant funding ran out he started guiding drug traffickers through the wilderness to pay for his conservation work.
Modern Geralt of Rivia installs beehives around human settlements because bees are annoying even to monsters
Modern Geralt of Rivia gets really pissed off when visitors to the Conjunction Reserve leave food in their cars because then the Fiends learn to break in and end up becoming aggressive and having to be put down
Modern Geralt of Rivia adopts stray puppies and trains them to track poachers
Modern Geralt of Rivia is the only one who can convince the rock trolls to get out of the road and let people pass
Yes, he finds Jaskier annoying, but who else is going to write funding proposals and grant applications? Geralt?
Nah nah Jaskier does the podcast and vidcast that brings in money and publicity and awareness.
Yen doesn't want to have anything to do with the actual creatures nor Jaskier's little hobbies, but she writes a mean funding proposal.
i’ve read His Touch by @seventfics and i just had to draw Geralt allowing himself to be tenderly touched by Jaskier
Buy me a coffee?
