Final Artifact

For the final artifact, it was created with the materials we all used to create the final artwork. I wanted to give the artifact the essence of our final work of art by using the original mixture of the sand. The sand around the sandbag was the original mixture of sand, baking soda, and food coloring. The gloves are filled with sand and placed around the colored sand, signifying our hands-on work with the project. The brooms standing over the work are crucial as we used them to clean away the artwork as if it had never existed. Our target audience was the park kids, who would help throw or lay the sand down.

This project for myself signifies how the world is gradually set together, agitated by a particular form, and ultimately washed away. Essentially, it is the creation of a form that eventually will run its course. The process for this project was to mix sand, baking soda, and food coloring to give the desired color before heading to the destination, which was Westbrook Park. We combined baking soda with vinegar to create the reaction shown in the video. We used these materials as they would not harm the surrounding areas as we cleaned and brushed them away to the earth.

Final Proposal

Original-

We draw on the street/sidewalk with chalk. The drawing can be of the world (representing "global" and whatever else around it we think is relevant. We spend a set amount of time on that (maybe an hour) to represent "timeliness" /being current. Once it's done, we pour baking soda over it, maybe in an X pattern to represent "canceled" or something similar. Then we pour vinegar over that and let it fizz up/ "explode". Finally, we sweep away at what's left until it's clean as if nothing changed. We can record part of the purged of drawing and the process of creating the banking soda reaction and cleaning it away.

New update-

We will not be using chalk for the artwork. Now, we will use a mixture of sand, baking soda, and food coloring to create the image itself. The baking soda is mixed, so the reaction with the vinegar occurs when we pour it on the final artwork. After the reaction, we will clean up the artwork with brooms and make it seem as if it was never there in the first place.

Proposal #2

This idea deals with handling and displaying explosive personality by painting a phrase onto a tshirt or canvas/poster board and crossing it out, maybe the sentence we have and maybe even bleaching the shirt from their or destroy the canvas/board, documenting the aftermath.

Proposal #3

We could make one of these (see below) it could either be a phone with either Facebook, instagram or twitter or just be a frame of the social media. We could put it in a public place around campus or just somewhere that attracts a lot of people and maybe all of us can sort of fit within the frame but we enact or represent a current event that either no one’s talking about or something that recently has happened and maybe get people to interact with us. One of us from the group could hold a sign that says cancel and they could also have smaller pieces of papers that says cancel on them and those that want to cancel us can just pin it to the frame. Then we could record everyone’s reaction of people that either ignored us, chose to cancel us or even give us a bigger reaction. It would almost be like a social experiment.
