Avery had been in a hell of a good mood when he’d first left the house hours ago. He’d spent some time with Arielle and was a few good hours into making some easy money (gambling, of course) at the bar when she showed up. Now upon returning home all traces of said good mood were gone…and it was completely her fault.

Luna Tremblay wasn’t supposed to be here - in fact Avery had come to terms long ago that they would never see each other again following their big argument and the exchanging of the divorce papers. It all happened so fast and seemingly sudden - even Blaize had been confused at first. After a while it was clear Luna was not a subject to be brought up on the road during jobs, especially in front of company.

It hadn’t been a problem until now.

“Where’s my brother?” Avery asked as soon as he walked in through the front door of the luxurious mansion, nearly colliding with Sera who was on her way out. Since arriving to Montreal the Lawton brothers were doing their best to keep a low profile. Purchasing a mansion together was, surprisingly, the least extravagant thing they could’ve done. Not to mention Avery insisted on getting a big place if Seraphina was going to be living with them.

Avery put up a fight but given the fact that they owed this ~new found freedom and wealth to Sera…well, it was a short lived argument.

“What’s with the face?” he asked in mild annoyance, noting the almost disgusted look on Sera’s face. After spending the past few hours with Luna, Avery didn’t realize that his current scent would be so distracting to Sera…especially when the vampire knew about the oldest Lawton’s brother dislike for all supernaturals.

It was official: there was no crime in Canada. Well, there was the occasional credit card fraud and drunken disorderly conduct he’d heard about on tv but aside from that, Montreal wasn’t the least bit eventful. This should have been a good thing considering that the Lawton brothers were tying to lay low but Avery was already having “withdrawals”. So getting into just a bit of trouble was harmless, right?

Wrong. 

It was supposed to be a simple break in - and it was until the owner of the luxurious little town home returned home. Because Avery decided to do this mission solo, he wasn't entirely surprised that something had gone wrong. Despite entering the home with a loaded weapon the eldest of the Lawton brothers didn't plan to use it...especially once he saw the owner of the house.

She was hands down the most gorgeous women he had seen since moving to this hell hole of a town (or ever?). He was momentarily distracted by her beauty which allowed the blonde to deck him square in the jaw. Avery wasn't the least bit offended, in fact he realized she couldn't be any more attractive...and then she took her clothes off.

Avery had lost track of time and he didn't really mind, nor did the mysterious hot blonde. He hadn't gotten a chance to ask for her name yet, they'd both been preoccupied with other things. After their latest round they both lay there on the king sized bed, regaining their breath and staring up at the ceiling. Never in his wildest dreams did Avery actually believe that an attempted robbery would result in him getting laid but he was happy to scratch it off his bucket list.

"Can I just say I'm happy it was you who came home first and not your husband," he said after a moment, a slight smirk on his face as he stared up at the ceiling. There was no way she wasn't married - she had to be. "Also I usually like getting a first name and maybe even a date before I fuck. But that right hook of yours sort of threw me off balance...literally," he added, an amused look on his face as he turned his head slightly to look at the blonde.

Avery was not a fan of Canada. Despite the fact that he’d been in Montreal for a few months now, the eldest of the Lawton brothers was still having a hard time adjusting to the ~Canadian ways of life. For starters, it was cold as shit - way colder than what he was used too, more so than that one year he spent in Boston. He didn’t speak a lick of French and Sera had decided to join them to continue making his life a living hell.

But it sure as hell beat the alternatives which was prison or being dead.

Given those two important facts, Avery decided he would enjoy his new found freedom regardless of this bullshit weather or language barrier. He was alive and well, not to mention was living comfortably given how much he’d “made” on that last job. So once the Maple Leafs game was over (he honestly didn’t give a shit about hockey but when in Canada…), Avery made his way to the nearest bar, which was thankfully just a block away from his loft apartment.

As usual, the place was pretty packed. Honestly, Canadian bar and grills were a hell of a lot nicer than most places back in the US. Avery made his way over towards the end of the bar and was about to take a seat when a certain brunette caught his eyes. And it wasn’t just any brunette, it was Arielle. Avery wasn’t exactly sure when he started referring to her by her name and not his “dealer”. Things got a little too casual off the bat and honestly she was the one to blame. Thirty seconds into their first meeting she sucker punched him in the gut.

It was the start of an unusual friendship…but friendship nonetheless.

“Well if it isn’t my favorite delivery girl,” he spoke, a smirk on his face as he approached the brunette. She had been mid conversation with some guy, talking closely among themselves. It didn’t take long for Avery to put the pieces together - she was on a date. And that was exactly the reason he decided to make his presence known. “Avery,” he introduced himself to the other man, ignoring the look of annoyance on Arielle’s face, “I’m a close business acquaintance of your date, here.”

over the years gambling turned into counting cards in vegas, and suddenly the lawton brothers were staging their first bank robbery

then came their big break: working a job for [ the devil ] herself

working with a small team, the lawton brothers managed to rob a very angry mafia boss in new york

the job went wrong off the bat, resulting in the death of an [ important team member ]

but in the end the lawton bros got the job done and hauled ass to canada to escape the american government which was after them

now living lavish in montreal, the brothers are “retired”

aka laying low until they get bored again

avery is already bored and is spending all his hard earned cash on drugs and booze because he can’t cope with the loss of his (and his brothers) lady love
