This is a sideblog. I made this mostly to post my screenshots but then I got really into lore and meta. So on this blog you'll find a bunch of Faewish Sprite related stuff. I swear I like Pieceys too though!

Avicinda, Chigda, and Giroda are my faves, but I also really like a lot of the other characters. I'm a multishipper so I'll occasionally talk about various ships, both ones I do personally ship and ones I just think could be interesting (most of them are Avicinda. he's very shippable).

Please do not bring out-of-universe character bashing and hate into my inbox.

Also please note I am 100% serious about "ship and let ship"! I do not make moral judgements about pure fiction and make believe that is not harming any real persons. I believe that equating "problematic" fiction with real world abuses only serves to trivialize the latter and make it more difficult to protect actual victims. I am not interested in discourse on this blog but since this has come up due to ship discussion and this is the nature of fandom overall nowadays, I have decided to make my stance on this clear.

Look, it's just disappointing as fuck.

I love Infinity Nikki enough to have a blog for it, write and draw for it, and join the official Discord even if I stopped talking in there after Encore Season. But just because I don't talk doesn't mean I don't want to see the community for the game. I want to see the game thrive and have a healthy enough environment for fan creation, even if it's for ships I don't personally care for.

The Faewish Sprite fandom is a niche for characters that people are widely apathetic toward at best and actively hate at worst. And the ship that most people make stuff for is yaoi in a game that has been touted as a "yuri game". And in the early days, "most people" was the entire fanwork side of this fandom of like 3 people at the most.

This means that, from the very start, my expectations were low for how our fanworks would be received.

I expected to receive hate directly, but was fortunate not to, although another writer was not so lucky as someone in the official Discord went out of their way to make a throwaway to DM them hate. At the very least, I thought that since this is a "yuri game", there would be enough yuri works that our yaoi works would be overshadowed in the wider fandom...right?

Sadly this isn't how things turned out. For the past year and a half, Avicinda/Chigda sat at the top of the ships list on AO3, even though there were 2x more F/F fics according to the categories section.

This put a spotlight upon me and other members of the Faewish Sprite community that I thought was kinda funny at first, until it wasn't. It instead got very uncomfortable as specific people in the official Infinity Nikki Discord brought it up over and over throughout the past year as some kind of very serious issue that the top ship for their yuri game was a yaoi ship, conveniently leaving out the categories section every time. And then they get to mocking the very idea of there being Faewish Sprite fans, always either in outright text or reaction emojis, calling our works "horrors" and using puke reactions whenever our stuff is brought up. Calling Avicinda/Chigda works "the horrors" and saying the yaoi shippers must be stopped. There was that time with my Piecey fic too. And all of this fucking sucks, because now even at least one mod is getting in on it and pitting yuri shippers against yaoi shippers.

Oh, and it's always very specifically Avicinda/Chigda shippers. AngMeg gets a pass.

But there shouldn't be this divide of "our sacred yuri" and "their degenerate yaoi" type of shit going on. I am a fan of the game too. I ship the yuri ships too. But I don't control my hyperfixation or my inspiration for what I write. Faewish Sprite fans that I talk to are the same. We love the game as a whole. But our existence and our works get paraded in an official goddamn space and the mods don't do anything about this type of toxicity because they are also engaging in this behavior.

Is an official Discord not supposed to be a space for all fans of the game? Even if it's not a space where we would openly talk about our ships, people who make these fanworks shouldn't feel so utterly unwelcome.

Also stop making excuses for why you can't and just write the goddamn yuri.
