A tiny robot shaped like a cube and called "Hedgehog" might one day hop, tumble and bounce on a comet or other small body in the solar system.

Scientists working with NASA are currently testing its concept for the Hedgehog under the space agency's Innovative Advanced Concepts Program, and it seems promising.

One of the first steps is compile enought information to understand WHERE? WHY? HOW?... I need to answer to these questions before start the development of this idea.

One of the most prominent characters in the new spacial career is Elon Musk. He is one of the outstanding personalities in the private space career. Elon is entrepreneur, engineer, inventor and investor. He is famous because he  co-foundedr of PayPal or Tesla Motors and founded SpaceX. I attach some recent articles about his proposals to live in Mars. Very amazing!

PG04_Prototyping starts

In this second term of the course, we deepen in the materialisation of the ideas presented in the researched text (PG01).

The initial concept has grown into the possibility of explore architecture on other planets, as search for new useful opportunities also in our planet. And the use of new technologies in mind, as is the case of 3D printers.

Remembering first concepts of utopia and distopia in CYCLE 01

In his timely Heathwood article on the the dialectic of utopia, Michael Ott stresses the importance of Ernst Bloch’s and T.W. Adorno’s 1964 discussion of utopian thought.[1] I follow Ott in relating my observations to this exchange. My paper opens with a prefatory point. 3D printers in Space

Early in the quest to establish the test , had clear that wanted to proceed on film. Have always aroused passion the relationship between cinema and architecture. But I had to find something to help me develop the rest of the course: and of course 3D printing called me much attention for its potential for the future.

I have read the next article about the project by Fosters+Partners on the Moon:

"Building a base on the moon could theoretically be made much simpler by using a 3D printer to construct it from local materials.

The concept was recently endorsed by the European Space Agency (ESA) which is now collaborating with architects to gauge the feasibility of 3D printing using lunar soil.

“Terrestrial 3D printing technology has produced entire structures,” explained Laurent Pambaguian, heading the project for ESA. “Our industrial team investigated if it could similarly be employed to build a lunar habitat.”

According to Pambaguian, ESA’s partners have devised a weight-bearing “catenary” dome design with a cellular structured wall to help shield against micrometeoroids and space radiation – incorporating a pressurized inflatable to shelter astronauts.

Meanwhile, a hollow closed-cell structure – somewhat reminiscent of bird bones – provides a combination of strength and weight. The base’s design was guided in turn by the properties of 3D-printed lunar soil, with a 1.5 ton building block produced as a demonstration.

Essentially, 3D “printouts” are built up layer by layer. A mobile printing array of nozzles on a 6 m frame sprays a binding solution onto a sand-like building material. Then for the structural ‘ink’ a binding salt is applied to convert the material to a stone-like solid.
