do you ever go through those phases where you just don’t feel like talking to anyone for a few days and it’s not because you’re mad or anything you just don’t feel like talking???
the struggle of wanting a lou-naissance but also knowing nothing of the kind will happen while he’s under sony is very real.
Just wondering do you think there is more or less going on with Louis situation than that post? Do you agree or disagree that Louis is being set up to ultimately be dropped?
Hi anon,
Sorry about being vague in tags. As for that post, the thing I disagree with is mainly Chandler’s role in this all. I don’t think that she is doing anything on purpose in the sense that she’s nothing but a cog in the wheel.
Like, yes of course she’s deliberately trying to cover her own ass and also exposing her own inexperience in the process. Yes, she is making it seem as if Arista is trying so hard when they just really, factually, aren’t. But that makes sense. She is publicly trying to save face for herself and her employer, that’s not just to trick Louies and I don’t think she was mainly hired to do that.
She is just working her job as a west coast radio promoter and has probably accidentally (it must be nice at first if the entire fanbase thanks you for hearing a song on radio, which also means a network to which you can promote other artists/songs) put herself now in the position of being seen as the face/contact person for Arista. She is on the road a lot with other artists and it’s clear that that is her main job, and whatever happens with Louis is really not something she particularly cares about.
So, Arista is first of all only the US distributor. He hasn’t even ever visited their Arista offices. Trust me, if he had, we would know. Second of all, Arista is just under Sony. They can realistically claim to not have any money because they’re still getting organized, hiring people etc etc.
Chandler should learn to not engage or not spout bullshit because hey guess what we’re not ten year olds who can be fooled into whatever is most convenient for them to have us believe.
Do I think the ultimate goal is to drop him? Yes. I think I even said that during/right after BTY promo when it was so fucking evident, clear as daylight that his song was yanked off of radio and just like that they pulled the plug just as we was gaining momentum and about to break into the radio Top 20.
The main/best scenario for Sony would be to get to claim it really is all just down to him not being palatable to the wider public. And I’m pretty sure that e.g. someone like Chandler doesn’t know the ins and outs, because she doesn’t need to know. All she needs to know is the vision of Sony on Louis’ artistry and value as an artist to their label. And if they decide “no, don’t care, don’t push”, then that’s that and they can say “it’s because noone wants him” even if there are signs it’s not actually the truth - motivated reasoning will keep her or anyone else from ever really examining those signs.
It’s ideal, because that means the onus lies with him. He fails, and it won’t be down to Sony, it’ll be down to himself and in the process of engineering that end result, they’ve managed to shift blame to him as well. Because he supposedly doesn’t want to chart, or have success in whatever form. It’s him that doesn’t want to do promo. Etcetera etcetera.
And the worst part? They’ve managed the manipulate the fandom just so to make up the excuses for them.
Some fans keep on clamoring “Things will get better” - no they won’t when you’ve got a release cycle of four weeks and you’ve got zero fucking nothing planned for it. You get no space to even build momentum like that with any single. And by the time his album comes out there’s no novelty factor either because all the songs are already out there to listen to, which is particularly devastating since it’s clear that any buying power comes from a very select group of fans and nothing outside of it.
Some fans keep saying “he’s choosing it to be with Harry” - no he isn’t. Just; get a fucking grip, and either admit you don’t care about Louis’ artistry, or at least you don’t give a shit about what he says himself and instead want to live in fantasy land. Because that’s what you’re doing if you’re legitimately using that as an excuse for the continuous negligence of Louis’ career. How many times does he have to fucking yell in your face that being an artist is his life, his passion, not just a pastime as he arranges his life around Harry?
Also he got not even one fucking second of respite when his mum was terminally ill, or during any of the time when his sister was struggling so much. Instead he had to X Factor, or be constantly photographed randomly and purposelessly strolling around LA or whatever other holiday destination.
Some other fans might say he’s doing it because he doesn’t want to be successful. Again, clean your fucking ears out and get a grip. He’s said so often now he wants to be remembered as a good artist, with great lyrics that mean something. If you want to have a legacy, that means having been successful. Being successful in the music industry means charting. Indie artists chart too, want success too. He never said he didn’t care about any of that. You’re deliberately misunderstanding him if you think he doesn’t care. Same with touring. Dude. How many times should he say that he wants his music to sound organic and raw and real? Which means - live??? He said he loves performing, so where are the gigs huh? Indie/Alt artists also do extensive, never ending radio tours to promote their records. On different channels, maybe yes, but still they’re out there promoting their stuff. Because that’s what it means to be an artist. It means selling your music. It doesn’t mean huh let me release a song and let’s then sit back and not care about it at all. Selling music means validation from the public at large. And I want that for Louis. To be seen, recognised and heard by the general public. To have his lyrics and his voice comfort people, touch people in their hearts. And he deserves that just as much as his former bandmates.
Anyways. With every single step of the way it’s like Sony needs to do less and less to trigger just the right responses from fans and it’s so freaking aggravating.
Worst of all - it’s devastatingly clear in the numbers too. And that hurts. Because not only does it give Sony stats and data to underpin their stupid arguments, it also probably affects Louis as well and that just hurts even more. You could hear some doubt in his voice when he said in 2017/2018 already “oh yeah, I thought Miss You would do better than it did” which was just heart-breaking because already then it wasn’t his fault at all? It has nothing to do with his qualities as a songwriter or as an artist and to think they’re again putting that in his head just as he’s regained his footing is terrible.
Hey, VVUO 💙💙💙💙💙
I have to do this this way again cause tumblr is being a pest again!
I've nothing to add. All these thoughts are my thoughts and opinions and worries and observations too. Louis is fucked over and held back and here we will stay, till some sort of an end. May it be a happy one!
My golden rule, when I finish my career as an artist, is to be seen as someone who has written good songs. This is the most important thing for me. So I would like them to think that I am a good artist. A good lyricist especially.

Sometimes I think about Louis beating out Shawn Mendes and Camila for Breakout iHeart Artist in 2018 and Two of Us beating out Lil Nas X's Old Town Road and Khalid's Better and Post Malone's Wow in 2019 and wonder how in the world Sony can not include his songs on All Access or not have his music played on the radio or not let him gain more fans and earn them more money? Doesn't someone beating out Shawn and Camila and Post Malone who are on the radio 24/7 have potential to be a "major" artist?
Sony knows very well the potential and power Louis has. Which is exactly why they don't even give him a fighting chance.
but what if Louis is the prince of sum fairy kingdom and Oli is an elf guard and that's why he follows louis around
I have a deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life.

anon about CC:
she’s not exposing anything except for her incompetence, but people are eating it up.
- when people pointed out the song wasn’t on allaccess (which is literally where all registered radio stations can access the song and is standard for releases) she said it didn’t need to be there.
- then radio stations said they wanted to play the song but didn’t have it–if it was on allaccess they would’ve… had access! without tweeting–and CC’s solution was to ask the radio station to DM her for the song. not to make it available on AA, but to put the onus on the station to contact her for a song. when they already have a buffet of songs to choose from.
- they secured him a gig at poptopia, and the corresponding host station did start playing the song (this is the basis for showola–the station wants fans to know the songs that will be performed at their show. it’s mutually beneficial.)
- when asked why he wasn’t performing at iheart festivals she said to ask them, and she elaborated that RADIO doesn’t see him as a priority and THAT’S why they’re not playing him or booking him for shows.
even though most radio stations (save for iheart) literally do not have access to the song and have to initiate contact with sony to even get it.
it’s stupid and i would say i can’t believe people are falling for it.

Thus, these payments will be taxed.

Yes that’s the one I meant. Imagine tweeting out to the world that your artist is not a major artist. Imagine tweeting to the world it’s the biggest success to manage to book a member of 1D to a festival as if he’s an unknown artist they have to beg to get him booked. Imagine diminishing the importance of your artist like that, essentially saying it’s so hard to achieve anything with him cause everyone just prefers to ignore him when it’s not the case snd there’s black on white proof...
