I’ve seen history try to whitewash him.

His father was General Alexandre Dumas (père). He served in Napoleon’s army and rescued Napoleon during the Italian campaign, earning a promise that he would receive a hero’s welcome and that Napoleon would take care of his wife and young son, Alexandre Dumas (fils).

Napoleon never kept that promise.

The painting that was supposed to depict General Dumas after that battle instead portrayed a white man. Even his statue in France wasn’t restored to public recognition until many years later.

As the saying often attributed to Napoleon goes, “History is a set of lies agreed upon.”

His son would later immortalize many of his father’s military exploits through stories such as The Three Musketeers.

I had my first relaxer at 5, so I honestly can’t imagine being surrounded by Afros and natural hair. If I had, I would have loved my hair much sooner. Years of relaxers, broken off hair and being teased about it. What my mother couldn’t teach I knew it was up to me to do for myself.I started my natural hair journey at 18 and it was the first time I could see my hair pattern. Release yourself from the conditioning that your hair texture isn’t proper. Ain’t nothing childish about how your hair grows out of your scalp .
