Collection’s Highlight: Pair of Silk Heels 

This delightful pair of heels was worn by Martha Ramsay Crugar about 1800. The cream colored satin is embroidered at the toe in a bow design using either black or dark green thread.  The embroidery is highlighted by small metal beading, which would have sparkled and caught the candle light at an evening event. Notice the grosgrain ribbon binding around top of each shoe has a string going through it- we think it may have been used to pull the shoe tighter.
