Why yes these are a most adorable pair of leather childrenâs boots with five buttons! Why yes I would wear these if given the opportunity. Â

The Fenimore Art Museumâs Exhibits Team spent several days in February installing âThe Clothing Project: Fashion Blog Favoritesâ exhibition.  IMHO it looks AMAZING!
This exhibition has a very short run, but I encourage all Clothing Project fans, costume history buffs, or vintage clothing connoisseurs to make the trip out to see it!Â
**Psssssstttt!!!!** I will let you in on a little secret: the more people who come to see the show- the better the chance the museum will put on more historic fashion exhibitions in the future! How cool would that be?  HELP us get the word out!Â

Collectionâs Highlight: Purple MoirĂŠ Silk Dress
Jane Gaston Wood (?-1907) a Quaker of Aurora, New York married Reverend Edward Taylor (?-1902) of Lee, Massachusetts on October 6, 1847. Jane Gaston Wood wore this purple silk moirĂŠ dress in a photograph commemorating her 50th wedding anniversary in 1897. The train on this piece is quite simply breathtaking. The lighter spot seen on the back of skirt is light damage from the garmentâs time before it became part of the museum collection.Â

According to family history this is the wedding outfit of Mrs. Rudolph Gross. Â At the time of her wedding (date unknown), her sister had recently died. Â So this dress is an interesting combination of two strong traditions: marriage and mourning.Â

A museum collection is usually far removed from the people who used and owned the objects. I find the most intriguing pieces to be those that remind the viewer that it was used, worn, loved, broken, and part of everyday life.  This silk dress is not a âperfectâ museum quality piece, but it does remind us that people in the past were still people, and sometimes you just sweat through that nice silk dress, and you just gotta rock it anyway.Â
