MYTH 1: “The relationship should be natural, easy and uncomplicated"

WELL ACTUALLY… “The truth is that all relationships take time, effort, commitment and energy. You need to make time for each other, to do fun things together, to work on communication, and to learn to negotiate and compromise.“

MYTH 2: “The relationship should be conflict free”

WELL ACTUALLY…”Because we are each individual and unique we all disagree with others at times, so conflict is natural, and not to be feared. In fact, conflict can force us to confront our differences, and to grow as individuals, and as couples too.”

MYTH 3: “Soul mates are romantic.”

WELL ACTUALLY: “Real life is not the movies, and love can be expressed in countless different ways, and still be genuine. Look out for all the signs that show your partner cares, and don’t be disappointed if they’re not ‘the stereotype’. Don’t force them to be something that is maybe not their style.”

MYTH 4: “You should always see things the same way and have the same opinions, outlooks and beliefs.”

WELL ACTUALLY… “You both have different backgrounds and have individual brains so you’re going to sometimes differ in the way you look at life. That needn’t be a problem – you don’t want to be clones.”

MYTH 5: “My soul mate will always like and love me.”

WELL ACTUALLY… “Consideration, respect and a concern for your partner are symptoms of a loving relationship. But being rude and disrespectful or irresponsible are not endearing qualities that build relationships. Instead, we need to give to get – as it’s not ‘all about me’”.

A House panel says “gullible” White House negotiators overpaid for Phillips ventilators, and it has asked the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General to investigate evidence of fraud in the deal.

Citing “evidence of fraud, waste, and abuse,” a congressional subcommittee investigating the federal government’s purchase of $646.7 million worth of Philips ventilators has asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General to launch its own investigation of the deal.

The House subcommittee launched its review after ProPublica stories in March and April showed how a U.S. subsidiary of Royal Philips N.V. received millions in federal tax dollars years ago to develop a low-cost ventilator for pandemics but didn’t deliver it. Instead, as the coronavirus began spreading around the globe and U.S. hospitals were desperate for more, Philips was selling commercial versions of the government-funded ventilator overseas from its Pennsylvania factory. Then in April, despite having not fulfilled the initial contract, the Dutch company struck a much more lucrative deal to sell the government 43,000 ventilators for four times the price.

Under this new deal, ventilators that the Obama administration had agreed to buy for $3,280 each suddenly cost $15,000. When the deal was announced in April, neither HHS nor Philips would say how the more expensive ventilators differed from the cheaper ones.

It turns out that they were “functionally identical,” according to investigators with the House Committee on Oversight and Reform’s Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, and the “waste of taxpayer funds” may have reached $500 million.

The investigators reviewed thousands of pages of emails and other records obtained from Philips and concluded that “inept contract management and incompetent negotiating by the Trump Administration denied the country the ventilators it needed.” And the subcommittee’s report, which it shared with the inspector general’s office, named names: Peter Navarro, President Donald Trump’s director of trade and manufacturing policy, was the administration’s point man on the deal. In addition, Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, and HHS Secretary Alex Azar participated in calls with Philips’ executives.

In a letter to the inspector general, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, the Illinois Democrat who chairs the subcommittee, wrote: “The Subcommittee requests that you immediately open an investigation into this apparent waste of taxpayer funds, how it was able to happen unchecked, and how to prevent it in the future. Moreover, the Subcommittee requests that your office’s review include an assessment of the reasonableness of the price of the contract and the amount of excess profits received.”

I am of the opinion that those who fill their lives with things that interest them are in a better position to be a partner to someone, simply because they are not dependent on that other person to give their life meaning. I never got the sense that Olivia dreamed, as a little girl, of her wedding day-like so many little girls are taught. I do have a strong sense of how her ideas about love, marriage/men were shaped. And I plan to reveal that. | “And there came Fitz with his handsome and rich and powerful self into her circle but that was obviously not enough to turn on her desire to marry. It was his sensitivity, selflessness to give room for her independence/power and his goodness that did it. And as in love as she is, she made it clear to Harrison in a previous episode that her life does not revolve around her husband. Meanwhile, we know that she was so missing her husband while he was in Japan, clearly showing that for an independent woman both of these things can be true.”

You’re welcome and thank you for taking time to respond to my reviews which are simply a product of your great writing.

The independent woman’s filled life does make her a very likely candidate to remain fulfilled in a relationship if she does fall in love. I was watching some Olitz video clips (from ep. 407 - ‘Baby Made a Mess’) today because what respectable Olitz fan does not do this even after the show has been off air for years now (*wink wink*), and the insanely fire phone scene where Olivia was trying to talk to Fitz about his attempted suicide, but he pivoted to describe ‘deskgate 2.0 - the raunchy edition’. Whew! Anyway, when I was done fanning myself for the 100th time, one line he said stuck out in my mind in relation to this story and it is when he said “I’m very powerful you know, most women would find that a turn on”. Even in his somewhat drunken state, he was acknowledging that his power is not what makes the love of his life crazy for him, even though that is a known attractive quality to other women.

I agree that Olivia did not have that kind of little girl dream and I am looking forward to your reveal of that part of her past as well as what the je ne sais quoi revelation will be.

Ah yes, the end of episode one does confirm the outcome of mother nature’s shenanigans. And I agree that the drawers definitely showed out. That’s the most fun they’ve ever had. LOL

The only thing that comes to mind when you asked, “who said don’t take my kindness for weakness” was a Caribbean singer/artist (I think from Jamaica) named Glen Washington.
