How to Make a Doll Wristwatch
There are a couple different ways you can make a nice watch for a Barbie or other doll. No matter what type of watch you make it will look just as nice as a purchased doll watch. The best thing about making the watch yourself is that, although it can be hard to find a doll watch to buy, you can always make one. And, with the many choices you have for the watch, no two watches ever have to look the same!
One way to make a doll watch is to cut a small circle, square or other shape, from a piece of cardstock or thin cardboard. Use a tiny watch sticker from a craft store as the numbers on the watch. If you can't find a sticker that's small enough you can just make tiny marker shapes and numbers on it, using a fine-tip marker.
Cut a piece of clear plastic and glue it over the top of the numbers. Keep the glue along the very edges. Apply glitter glue to the edges of the plastic to conceal the glue through the edges of the plastic.
Make a different watch by cutting a tiny picture of a watch out of a catalog or other source. Look for watches worn by models or other people in magazines to find one proportionate in size to the doll you have.
Glue the watch picture to cardstock or thin cardboard. Follow the steps above to add a plastic piece over the picture and to glitter around the edges of the plastic.
No matter which type of watch you make use a narrow piece of ribbon to make the watchband. Glue the watch onto the band using hot glue or another adhesive. Cut the ribbon so that it's long enough to tie around the doll's wrist. Or, cut the band to be just a tad larger than the doll's wrist, cut tiny pieces of Velcro, then use them as a closure on the band.
Want to make some more timepieces for the dolls? Make a clock by cutting a clock face picture out and gluing it to a piece of cardstock. Cut a hole in a paper mache or other box - like a matchbox - and attach the watch picture from underneath. Use this technique to make a grandfather clock, mantle clock, wall clock or other type.
It's fun to make new things for dolls even if you're not the one playing with dolls. You'll see that's true when you sit down to make the dolls' new watches and clocks!
