Ducks brave the snow, whereas my chickens do not.

Why I'm happy none of our solar panels are on the roof. These three are easy to brush the snow from, as are the three mounted to the south wall of our house.

Winter is here.

Parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweet potato greens, okra and beets.  Breakfast from the garden.

Chicken of the woods mushroom.  Bonus points because it grew right behind the house.

This is why I keep a chainsaw in the car. Heavy rain took out this oak tree.

This years the chanterelles were beyond abundant.  (And an oyster to boot.)

Its been a looooooong time since posting, but we’re still here.  There have been a lot of challenges, and more than enough tasks to last us through this life and the next.  But dammit if we don’t eat well.

Technically called "sulphur shelf mushroom," Chicken of the Woods is easy to spot and cooks up deliciously, with a meaty, chicken like taste and texture.

If you dont harvest frequently, the zucchini can kind of runaway in size.  They are perfect for making relish out of though!

Summer means a lot of fresh green beans.  Garlic from our garden in the background.

DIY wood shed.  Most of this woodshed was made from scrap building materials from our cabin and pallets.  The floor joists and rafters were new.  It still needs a tin roof.  Right now the shed serves as a patio!
