قال صلى الله عليه و سلم :
لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ خَبُثَتْ نَفْسِي وَلَكِنْ لِيَقُلْ لَقِسَتْ نَفْسِي
None of you should say: My soul has become wicked. Rather, let him say: My soul has faulted.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī
A man once asked one of the Salaf:
How much Qur’an should we read?
He replied: Equivalent to the amount of happiness you are looking for.

I drew this comic in 2017. Now it’s more relevant than ever.
On Light
Lord, keep us close to you. Embellish our hearts with your mercy, gratitude, love, compassion, enlightenment, steadfastness, faith, certainty... Deliver us to the light of the clear, easy, and unequivocal truth. Ameen — It was narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, recited verse 190 fom Al-Imran (The Family of Imran (Mary's father)) to the end. It was night time, before Fajr (Dawn Prayer). — "Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for people of understanding. Those who remember God (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You!"
—
He then recited a beautiful supplication after hearing the call to Fajr. — His duaa: "Lord, place light in my heart, and light in my tongue, and light in my hearing, and light in my vision, and light from above me, and light from beneath me, and light on my right, and light on my left, and light ahead of me, and light behind me. And give light in my soul, and make the light great for me, and make me light... And magnify the light. And keep giving me light upon light.
“Some periods of our growth are so confusing that we don’t even recognize that growth is happening. We may feel hostile or angry or weepy and hysterical, or we may feel depressed. It would never occur to us, unless we stumbled on a book or a person who explained to us, that we were in fact in the process of change, of actually becoming larger, spiritually, than we were before. Whenever we grow, we tend to feel it, as a young seed must feel the weight and inertia of the earth as it seeks to break out of its shell on its way to becoming a plant. Often the feeling is anything but pleasant. But what is most unpleasant is the not knowing what is happening. Those long periods when something inside ourselves seems to be waiting, holding its breath, unsure about what the next step should be, eventually become the periods we wait for, for it is in those periods that we realize that we are being prepared for the next phase of our life and that, in all probability, a new level of the personality is about to be revealed.”

Please, Respect my silence, Silence is my best weapon Did you feel my words When I fell silent? Did you feel the beauty of what I said When I said nothing?
When they all went to sleep, He never did. When they broke, He held you up. When every means failed, He saved you. When all the creation left you, He remained. He always remains. Never forget how He carried you, when the storm pushed you to your knees and there was no one else who could help you. When you were broken and you swore this time it couldn’t be fixed—never forget who fixed it. Never forget what He saved you from. Never forget how He put you back together. That moment when you felt helpless and alone, never forget who never left. To forget this is the greatest heedlessness. No matter who or what may be beside you now, never forget those moments when it was only Him. Only Him. That is loyalty.

“Do not be afraid; I am with you all the time, listening and seeing.” Qur'an | 20:46
“I reflected upon myself and those of my extended family who spent their lives in acquiring wealth while I spent my childhood and youth seeking knowledge, and I saw that I have not been deprived of anything they have acquired.”
— Ibn al-Jawzi
رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ My Lord, indeed I am, for any good that you bestow on me, very needy.

“Knowing can be a curse on a person’s life. I’d traded in a pack of lies for a pack of truth, and I didn’t know which one was heavier. Which one took the most strength to carry around? It was a ridiculous question, though, because once you know the truth, you can’t ever go back and pick up your suitcase of lies. Heavier or not, the truth is yours now.”
— Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees
