A historic building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

Another new zine that I can’t get a full run printed. I really like making them but just don’t have the funds to throw out 25-50 copies to sell.
Are people cool with me selling them then getting it printed? I am sitting on like 5 zines that are print ready but no money to make a substantial sized run of them. I always thought it was a bit of a faux pas to sell before having physical copies of books.Â
I don't see how this would be any different than setting up a Kickstarter, so I'd be fine with it. Also, since you have a track record of actually producing zines, that would make me comfortable participating in something like this.
I have used Magcloud for zines, which does print on demand and gets rid of the up front costs. The print quality is good. However, the product just isn't as nice as what my local print shop does and customization options are limited. Also, they're obviously not hand made and Magcloud complicates signing a zine or adding a personal message.
