     Twisting her neck to the side, it lets out a loud ‘crack’ as she stretches, her face turned towards the ground. Unceremoniously, she spits at the floor before lifting her head back up, the faint glow of orange behind her sunglasses glowing ominously.

     “Quels imbéciles!” She coos in her mother tongue, tone ripe with sarcasm. “Anything you can possibly dig up has already been dredged and wrung dry by the Inquisition. What are you going to do, blackmail me with crimes I’ve already been tried and convicted of?”

“Don’t make a fuss, you say?” Esther grabbed Addy’s hands, guiding her inside the building.

She ushered the taller girl to sit on a couch, hastily searching for three things: a towel, a blanket and leaves for a fresh cup of tea.

“I’ll start the kettle,” she sighed.

Luckily, everything was, mostly, within reach. Esther came back to Addy carrying a bundle of blankets, a towel, and the tea kettle was whistling as the water boiled.

“Here, dry yourself,” she said, placing the towel on top of Addy’s head. “Seriously, Adelaide… what were you thinking?”

     Her voice wavered, laughter spilling out between shivers as she’s pulled through the threshold, giving little resistance to the smaller woman’s efforts. It wasn’t common, this sort of treatment that she received.

     Adelaide stumbled, attempting to strip away some of the soaking clothes as she’s shooed away from the door. She’d kicked off her boots and clumsily thrown off her wet socks before the lanky woman is seated on the couch.

     “While I still believe it is... a bit excessive, I do appreciate it,” she calls behind her, teeth chattering quietly as she rubs the towel over her hair. “I’m used to being up on the roof. Just had a little misstep.”

Well that went smoothly……not. Since having his golden eye look up and seeing her expression after turning around since if he had his ears out, he would have honestly flatten them against his head. And for some reason he wanted to send out a slight whimper yet suppressed the urge as he huffed a bit. Listening to what she said about grabbing him something to eat, while he knew it would be anything grand like what the Orden had back in Germanicus, it was at least something to give him energy. “Rest…..right.” 

Laying down onto the bed as he sighed out after hearing the door shut, the werewolf merely had to wait for his wounds to heal since the more dangerous they seem to him, the more it took to recover. However with these injuries, he would only need to make sure he didn’t interrupt the healing process as it wasn’t as fast as a Methuselah’s, definitely faster then a normal terran. Hearing the gentle rap on the door since he was amazed as that was really a few minutes since it seemed longer, he then slowly sat up as he nose sniffed the scent of the food she brought in. 

Tilting his head to the side a small bit as she sat it in front of him, definitely soup and bread but what kind of soup was served? “This is fine……” Nodding as it would give him some energy back to get out of her hair, turning his attention back to the soup, he casually dipped some of the bread into the liquid before eating a good portion as he nodded a bit. Better then what Cain makes though not as good as what he hunts, but hey it’s the Vatican they seem to spend more time praying then getting good meals. Picking up the bowl and licking the soup a few times, he heard her speak as he then swallowed what he had as his golden eye focused on Adelaide. 

“What’s on mind?”

     Sitting at his bedside, Adelaide sat with a startling calm. Her hands folded in her lap as she watches him eat the food that she had brought for him. This pleasant scent of bourguignon filling the room, replacing the astringent odor of the alcohol that she’d used to clean his wounds. Rather than immediately continue her question, the nun sits in silence to allow him to eat. It seemed to be the polite thing to do, not breaking this lull until he speaks up.

     “Why do you do this?” The question comes out with little intonation. She suppresses the swell of emotions in her chest, clenching her jaw to keep her words in check. Her brow furrows slightly, realizing how vague her own inquiry is. Inhaling deeply, her shoulders raised defensively as she pushes on.

     “Do you feel no regret for taking lives?”

The Vatican did NOTHING to help a child in need when he pleaded, even the local priest in their town, when they were being abused and mistreated and ostracized by their fucking parent!”

He huffed as he was angry since how naive was this agent?! “It’s not all sunshine and games and whatever other shit! You may have had a good home where you were treated warmly, but to a child on the outside, how do you think that makes them feel huh?”

     As much as she didn’t like the presumptuous rhetoric that spewed from his mouth, while she wanted to argue with what it was she knew to be true, she simply stood there in silence and forced herself to hear it. The Church was not always there to save everyone. It was difficult to do that when not everyone within the walls had the same priorities. Their own power struggles prolonged the suffering of those who needed help the most. It was internally flawed.

     “A good home?” She repeats his words icily, her head tilting with a curious stare. Her expression reflected very little of the turmoil that raged on inside. Her mouth opened, arguments threatening to spill out, but what good would that do? “You’re right. I couldn’t possibly know what it’s like.”
