Their relationship took an irreversible turn when Cedric had Ayla’s fiance murdered in an act of political vengeance for the death of his wife. Ayla has not spoken to him since, despite the many letters he sends, as well as the occasional personal messenger. His attempts at contact become more desperate and frequent as the years go on, as he is getting older and Ayla remains his only heir.

Relationship: Ayla and her mother were exceptionally close while she was living. Children are quite rare among fae, and Ayla was her mother’s first and only child, and therefore all the more precious. Soairse spent every spare moment with Ayla, and in Ayla’s eyes no one was kinder, smarter, or more beautiful than her mother. Tragically, Soairse was assassinated by faeries from the enemy court when Ayla was only 8 years old.
