Alysa was so inspiring to watch 🥇
okay ive finally been able to vocalize why even though ive liked a fair amount of RTD2 but still think it still hasn't held up to what still, remains to me, is the last great doctor who series. my goat: series 10. I think it comes down to the state of television in the 2000s-2010s versus today. How shows are produced today are radically different and doctor who changing its format for those demands are producing a worse finale piece.
even though ive enjoyed a lot of the experimentation this new era has taken, the fact we only get 8 episodes of season is FELT. The doctor-companion dynamic doesnt feel nearly as textured as it used to. I was all excited after the first few episodes that we would get a companion that would have a more confrontational dynamic with the doctor but Belinda ends up feeling quite flat in later episodes due to how little information RTD gave the guest writers working on this season.
what helps, as always, is the stellar cast they always manage to hire for this show. I could watch Ncuti Gatwa play the doctor for hours(except maybe when he tortured a guy last episode, not a fan of that ep in general gonna be real). I just wish we had that down time in the TARDIS. or the mid series two-parters that ended up being some of the strongest episodes. i think the lack of those really made the jodie era weaker too in my opinion. some doctor who stories need more than 45 minutes be told and i cant help but feel like theyre being wasted on finales i couldnt give a shit about
an episode like the this weeks was one that felt like it would have been better as a stand alone story but russell decided it would be best serving like the game shows in Bad Wolf. But unlike those being abandoned well before the conclusion of the episode, the dystopia feels a lot less gimmicky and a setting i would have liked seen in its own episode in a longer season. however that leads to my biggest gripes.
this era's integration of classic characters/ideas feels so lazy in comparison to how it was done in the beginning of the revival. the daleks, the cyberman, and the master were all contextualized to new audiences(like 13 american me, back when) within the new stories they were telling. now it just feels like russell expects everyone to clap and holler just by mentioning the names of sutekh and the rani or look up a youtube explained video if they dont. when we brought the master back, it was made interesting to revival only viewers by the doctor thinking he was the only time lord left and the intrigue caused by him being terrified of the possibility of that not being true. we later get the full context and see their shared history play out in the next episode but we are still given a reason to care without having to look things up as homework for next week.
i dunno man i could keep going but i just think streaming demands and writing for social media engagement have ruined so much of television and doctor who has succumbed to the modern media landscape i loathe so much.
first you're like "the doctor is autistic" and then you're like "weeellllll they are an alien so that could explain their behavior" and then you see how the other time lords act and you loop back to "the doctor is autistic"
dont know why i havent posted about it at all here but have you guys here this andor show is pretty good??
congrats for drugs for winning the war on drugs
I was stupid... so stupid
Accidentally called dumplings "Peking ravioli" in front of my New Jersey coworkers and I had to frantically explain that this wasn't some insane new form of esoteric Sino-Italic racism, that's just what they're called in Boston. Had to take a picture of a menu to prove it.
Before Lady Gaga’s brief and short king alter-ego, Jo Calderone, was made famous for performing Yoü and I at the 2011 MTV music video awards, he made his public debut in the “Elegant Mechanics” feature Vogue Hommes Japan just a year before, shot by Nick Knight. Here we learn the little origin story of this humble car mechanic from Sicily, who loves Frank Sinatra and working for his dad’s business, when he’s not getting busted for pissing in public. Wonder what he’s up to now? We miss him. Thx to ladygaga.fandom.com for the scans.
Fun thing about football right now is that there's a move called the "brotherly shove" that the Eagles do when they're very close to scoring, where the whole team puts their hands on the ass of the guy with the ball and physically propels him over the line into the endzone for the touchdown, and all the other teams' fans hate it because it's got such a ridiculously high rate of success for the Eagles and doesn't really seem to work for any other team. People are straight-up calling for this move to be banned, claiming it's "unstoppable" and gives an "unfair advantage" but it really and truly is a skill issue. The whole league hates this move because it only makes the Eagles win more often and nobody else can figure out how to do it right
Other teams are so afraid of it that they panic and do some wacky looney tunes shit to try and stop it. The refs had to come out on the field and tell the bad guys to stop doing this
because it's blatantly against the rules of football, and that if they tried it a fourth time in a row that they would just straight-up grant a free touchdown to the Eagles
The rest of the NFL: this move doesn't work for us but it always works for the eagles... how do we stop them, we've tried everything... Washington Commanders Linebacker Frankie Luvu: ...not everything... Washington Commanders Linebacker Frankie Luvu:
