These pages of Daniel's diary from Fire and Water are cracking me up. It's almost all just an infodump about ancient board games with randomly inserted sentences about his life. Ik it's just placeholder writing for a three second prop, but it's so funny to imagine this is actually how he writes.
Like:
"...three lapis lazuli, which suggest that they formed two sets, probably one for each player.

Daniel. Daniel Jackson. Your wife got kidnapped. What are you doing?
And another interesting thing about it: one of the sentences Sam reads out is written differently in the diary. In the episode, she reads out, "Colonel O'Neill thinks I'm a geek."
However, in the diary, Daniel seemingly wrote, "Colonel O'Neill despises me." Which feels so much more self-deprecating and personal to me than the 'geek' line.
I just think its neat

Served the same purpose… ladders in the modern game of snakes and ladders a man reaching point 6, for example, can move immediately to point 20.
As in the case with so many ancient games none of the rules or methods of play have survived. With the help of exciting evidence, however, we have reconstructed what is probably a close approximation to the original game [illegible]... played so many centuries ago.
Colonel O’Neill despises me. I have no idea how to get us back. I’ll never get paid.
The greatest hoard of ancient art ever found in Mesopotamia (present day Iraq and eastern Syria) was discovered in the mid-1920s by an expedition led by Sir Leonard Woolley, in which both the British Museum… of …
Exciting find, for they proved to be more than 4,500 years old, making them by far the oldest gaming boards ever discovered. The game seems to have been extremely popular among the Sumerian ruling classes and it was customary to place boards in the tombs of dead persons to help them pass the time pleasantly during the journey to the next world.
Some of the boards are richly decorated; one of them is covered with an incrustation of shell plaques [inlaid] with lapis lazuli and red [lime]stone. In other examples… plaques have engravings of [animals]. Two sets of seven counters were found with the boards. One… of these counters was white with…

The game has become known as the Royal Game of Ur and it appears to be one of the original ancestors of the backgammon group of race games, preceding the Egyptian game of senat by perhaps two or three hundred years. It is yet another example of a game for which no written rules have survived. Luckily, however, it is possible to reconstruct possible methods of play from the boards and other available evidence. The version offered here is based on two earlier versions– one offered by [Dom Siasimo] in his excellent… I do in my spare time… is mentioned in…

This is the legality that always gets me: A deceased person cannot be forced to use their organs to save someone's life. It's sacred body autonomy. The federal government now says a woman must use her organs to support potential life. Women have fewer rights than dead bodies.

This painting is a bit of a departure for me from my usual portrait art, but serves as a small attempt to channel my fury over Friday’s Supreme Court decision.
It seems women still have so much work to do to be equal citizens 💔
