Sound on, sea breeze.
I’m gonna make myself feel old, but reblog with your high school graduating class
Class of 2007.
class of 2020…………
are all my mutuals boomers or what
HAHAHAHA. 1988.
1999, and we partied like it.
1985 ... ya’ll are just babies. 😆
Friday Five
I have masks from a few different vendors, including some homemade ones (from dear friends, I am not that crafty/patient) and my favorite ones are Old Navy. Least expensive too. Ordered more this week as they are also favorites of the rest of my family and the kids will all need plenty of them if on school campuses this year. I ordered some fancy ones for myself from eshakti but I’m still waiting for them to ship.
Arizona leads the US for exploding COVID-19 cases. Not proud of my adopted home state at all. (That sentence makes it sound like people explode from COVID-19 ... but you know what I mean. ) The conflicting messages about masks from the very beginning hasn’t helped this country.
Want to know one of the hardest things about remote work? Making sure people around you know the awesome things that are happening. I’m crafting an email today to share a ridiculously successful campaign that was just completed, and trying to copy the right people to ensure proper recognition of all the players. (Still prefer to work remotely.)
My mom has been in the hospital for almost 2 weeks and the no-visitor policy is hard on everybody. I wonder if nurses prefer not having family members around, or if it makes their job easier to have them around? I’m grateful for cell phones so we can stay in touch, but I’m used to being able to speak directly, face to face, to the medical personnel rather than trying to chase them down via phone. I also hate that she is in there alone, without any of her family. (She doesn’t have COVID-19)
I’m more of an extrovert, and this shutdown of social activity is wearing on me. Online / texting / phone is just not the same as in person interaction for me. And I can’t see when it may change. ☹️
Experts say shaming other individuals for going against the rules -- or for at least appearing to -- isn't usually the best route to take. H
There are many good quotes in here.
Shaming doesn’t work. Never has, never will. People tend to fall back on it often, but it makes those they are trying to shame more stubborn and doesn’t encourage change.
When I meet people are big on shaming others, it shows me who to avoid. And not just now - I’ve always felt this way.
Let your inner sunshine light up the whole world.
My work days have been starting at 6:30/7, so they’ve been ending at 3:30/4 ... and I cannot complain. May just adjust my schedule for at least the rest of the summer.
Awkward moment in a hotel room
Josh was a keynote speaker for a company event earlier this year and he was awesome. I loved how he listened to previous speeches and really pulled in our company culture and comments into his keynote. I’ve been a fan for many years (I think I read his first book over a decade ago) so it was quite the treat to meet him in person. He and his wife Ashley were very kind & gracious. Plus he’s funny.
From astrophysicists to entomologists, many researchers need the help of citizen scientists to sift through immense data collections
“It’s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.” -Patrick Rothfuss
Exciting news, friends!!! My coloring sheets are being published and made available for free at the Garfield Park Conseravtory website!!!! It means so much to have my art distributed (and validated) through my workplace, especially because I love the collaborative aspect of seeing people color them in!!! If you want to check em out, they’re at garfieldpark.org/resource-center/kids-activities 🌸🌸🌸
My youngest has been a bit at odds without school, sports, clubs or activities. I asked her what she wanted to learn about this summer and she decided mythology.
I did a little research, pulled together books from our home library, bought a couple more, searched for appropriate documentaries & movies, and began designing a summer unit encompassing reading, writing, art, presentations, and knowledge checks. I wrote out a weekly assignment that should take 5-6 hours a week and presented it all to her tonight. I’ll continue to craft weekly assignments each week, adjusting as necessary.
I wasn’t sure how she’d react, but after dinner she came out of her room with this week’s books and her new notebook and got to work.
7th grade was a tough year for many reasons - and it was actually a blessing when schools closed. Here’s to working to make 8th grade & beyond better & healthier.
And I’m looking forward to learning lots about mythology myself! I’m also happy to use my instructional design skills for my kids again.
