Deltarune ch5 was underwhelming…honestly after the way that chapter 4 ended and the huge amount of hype generated from MY DELTARUNE I would have been okay waiting a few years for a full release, I kinda just feel edged by this chapter. I think the timing was off. Chapter 4 was an excellent place to leave off before another long wait—kind of a cliffhanger, sure, but it felt good to finish it. Finishing chapter 5 just kinda had me like… that’s it?

It being just more lore setup with no payoff is getting really old at this point. I would have been more than okay waiting 5 years for 5, 6, and 7 rather than waiting a year for 5, getting really excited, and then realizing that in fact the only weird route we even get is another scant 20 minutes of gameplay before a real rip of a cliffhanger

Not to mention that as much fun as the normal route chapter was, the secret boss fight was also pretty fucking disappointing considering some of the fan stuff people were coming up with. The fight itself was cool, but the lore angle was really disappointing. Especially because we barely even saw the knight either and I’m not saying we HAD to have an asgore fight, but it just feels like he’s done very little at this point…

And that’s kind of my problem. It feels like despite the gravity of the situation, nothing really HAPPENED this chapter. We knew asgore was probably going to get kidnapped, and that happened, and it did some really unexpected stuff with some new characters and that was cool. But we haven’t really received anything else in the way of clues for the central mystery except for the fact that the lake is important. So now we’ll wait an undetermined period of years to check in on that again I guess. I’m not saying gaster needs to jump out from behind a tree and trigger a friend boss fight, I just wish we’d gotten a little bit more to chew on if they were going to bother releasing chapter 5 after only 1 year.
